Yum… but there was a second course, right? :)
I once had something similar: crab cakes with an aioli sauce and pickled ginger that was soooo good.
Sounds delicious, Janis.
Looks delicious! Others have already guessed it’s a fishcake, which would have been my answer as well.
Yes, that was a popular answer. Thanks, Debbie.
Amazing fish appetizer! Will not mind one as well.
Come and share with us at ES #53 #WordlessWednesday
and on another fishy note, check out the Upstream Battle
Thank you.
Oh golly – a deep-friend marshmallow in kelp pudding? I’ve been quite depressed this week (along with most of California) but did run into this magnificent specimen today https://jttwissel.com/2024/11/13/longevity-wordlesswednesday/
I’ve never tried deep-fried marshmallows, but I’ve heard that some people enjoy deep-fried Mars bars. Chocolate often helps brighten up grey days.
This appetizer sure looks good, Hugh! I bet the pickles add a zesty taste to the fish cake. Great shot of it!
The pickled cucumbers added lovely texture and taste to the fishcake, Terri. It’s one of the best starters I’ve ordered.
The picture was taken on my new iPhone 16 Plus. I’m delighted with its performance.
Oh, I’ve heard great reviews about the iPhone 16 plus. I love my samsung s23 ultra…both have amazing photography features. Enjoy, Hugh!
Looks delicious! Was it all yours or did you have to share?😂
Oh, no, two portions were ordered, one each for us.
I was going to guess crab cake, but then I read in the comments that it was a fish cake. Looks delicious, but my first thought was “This would not fill me up!” Then, again, it seems like this was not your main course. All I know now is that I’m hungry and food is hard to find in my current surroundings.
This was my starter, Liesbet. I’m not usually a ‘starter’ person, preferring a main course and dessert, but the fishcake was too tempting. I’m glad I took the plunge, though.
I hope you find/found something delicious to eat. I’m guessing all the Belgian chocolate has gone?
Not yet! Believe it or not. I/we can be very careful and disciplined when it comes to savoring treats. :) I expect the rest of our chocolate (including one box of truffles) to last until the end of the year. Maybe I should save the Belgian truffles for Christmas? Or my birthday, the end of this month…
Yes, that sounds like a great idea. I do not know what Argentinian chocolate is like, but celebrating your birthday and Christmas with chocolate you know and love is a great idea. I hope at least a few glasses of wine are planned for those days, too.
That goes without saying, Hugh. I think wine is one of the few things we ALWAYS carry in our camper. :)
Looks like a very delicious fishcake and the cucumbers make it into a work of art,
Those pickled cucumbers were outstanding. They gave the dish a lovely, crunchy texture.
That looks yummy! Hope you enjoyed it!
I did. I would have had a second helping, but this was the starter, Carol Anne.
A pesto tartar sauce, a fishcake, and slice pickles on top. YUM!
But I see is was avocado dressing.
And a spicy avocado dressing at that. The pickled cucumbers gave the whole dish a lovely, crunchy texture. I salute the chefs and cooks of our world.
Thumbs up!
Well it certainly looks chunkier and more satisfying than the fishcakes I get from Aldi. But then I can’t look at yours and wonder where the chips are…
I bet you enjoyed though – very cordon bleu, Hugh.
The chips came with the second course, Paul. This was my starter. It was a rather posh dinner.
Yummy fishcake was it spicy and I love guacamole 💜💜
Yes, spicy. It was delicious, Willow. I wanted another one, but desserts were calling, so I went with one of them.
What did you have for pudding 😁🍮
Welshcake flavoured ice cream – 3 big scoops!
Oh! Woohoo 💜💜💜
My first thought was also fishcake, but then I wondered could it be a breaded mini camembert?! Overthinking, perhaps… It certainly looks very appetising.

I do like a fried camembert in breadcrumbs, June. But this one is a fishcake. It was delicious.
I’m pleased it tasted as delicious as it looked, Hugh.
basil or avocado something with a delicious lightly fried something on time and topped with shaved cucumber
It’s fishcake sat on a spicy avocado dressing with pickled cucumbers on top. It was delicious, Beth.
looks and sounds wonderful
Beautifully presented and looks very interesting, Hugh. Something on avocado? Fish cake, perhaps?
Yes, you’re right about the fishcake, Cathy. It was a spicy avocado dressing that the fishcake was served on, with pickled cucumbers on top. Mouthwatering and delicious.
It looks wonderful.
