A beautiful home, Hugh! I could have never guessed but since I showed up to the party late, I see it was Agatha Christie’s home. Must have been interesting to walk through and wonder what inspiration she drew from the inside.
It was, Terri. But she also went to the nearby Burgh Island hotel to write where she found a lot of inspiration. When we visited the area, only guests were allowed into the hotel grounds, so we couldn’t go in to take a look around. But I get that. I wouldn’t want hoards of tourist disturbing the hotel I was taking a relaxing holiday at.
I had no idea until I read the comments, Hugh. That is a beautiful home.
The inside of the house was just as beautiful, Eugi. Agatha had style.
I can only imagine, Hugh! Agatha defintely had style.
Phew that was an easy one since I’ve actually visited the house :)
Did you enjoy your visit? I found it amazing that I was treading the same floorboards as Agatha Christie once did. And too see lots of her possessions too. I also enjoyed looking at the family photos that were scattered around the house.
I did Hugh. The murals in the drawing room painted by the service people who stayed there during WW2 were astonishing and I loved the fact that Christie insisted they remain.
I had no idea and checked the comments. Now I know 😂
Yes, somebody guessed the correct answer, so no waiting around until next week to find out.
Yes 👍
I hadn’t a clue until I read the responses. I do remember seeing this house in a lecture on Dame Agatha.
I’m glad you remembered seeing it. It’s well worth a visit if you find yourself in the UK again, Noelle.
We’re due for a trip in the next couple of years.
I would have guessed W.H. Auden – don’t know why. Here’s my entry https://jttwissel.com/2024/05/15/whos-in-the-watering-can-wordlesswednesday/
No, not him, but you can find the answer in the comments section now.
Thanks for your entry.
Yes – I was surprised.
Lovely house indeed, and I saw the answer, although I did not know it myself.
My entry for this week Sand Sculpting and do not forget to come and share your links at ES #27 #WordlessWednesday
Thanks, Esme.
i look forward to finding out 💜
You’ll find the answer in the comments, Willow. Somebody guessed correctly.
Here is mine Hugh 😁💞😁
Thanks, Willow.
i have just seen I would never have known 😁😁
Here’s my link.. https://betweenthelinesbookblog.com/2024/05/15/wordlesswednesday-new-residents-in-the-garden-birds-wildlife-gardenbirds-photography/
Thanks, Cathy. Those baby birds must be delightful to see. Our neighbours birdbox also has chicks.
I’m hoping to catch them fledging. I’ve never been lucky enough so far, but it’s lovely to see them around the garden.
I bet. We have lots of Blue Tits flying around our garden, but also Robins. So I’m unsure who it is that has taken up residence in the birdbox.
If it’s a similar type to mine it’s more likely to be blue tits. I believe robins like a bigger opening.
Is it Agatha Christie?
Well done, it is, Cathy. It was a fascinating place to walk around.
I remembered seeing it when we were on a boat trip from Dartmouth and the top part of the house looked familiar.
We took the steam train from Dartmouth to get to it. It was like stepping back in time.
I bet it was! I’d love to go back and have a look round the house.
It’s now owned by the National Trust, Cathy. Do check it out if you find yourself in that area next time.
Hmm..difficult question, but a lovely house 🙂. Any hints? My entry here – https://flightsofthesoul.wordpress.com/2024/05/15/windows/
The only hint is that the house is located in the UK and belonged to a British author and writer.
I think it was Hemingway. But I could be wrong.
You’re wrong, Darlene, but thanks for having a guess.
My first thought was Wordsworth, but those trellises look to be fairly new and not yet grown-over, so maybe a renovation?
The house is no longer lived in but open to the public to have a look around. However, most of the writer’s items who live there are still there. A fascinating place, not Wordsworth, I’m afraid.
You? :)
Ha! I wish!
Emily Dickinson?
Good guess, but no. I’ll give the answer in next week’s Wordless Wednesday post unless gets it right.
No idea Hugh but it’s a lovely Georgian house 💜💜
The inside of the house was amazing, Willow. It was like stepping back in time. I was so pleased to be able to walk the same floors as the writer who lived there.
