Fun discussion, Hugh and a great picture. I guessed wrong, but without enlarging it on my computer, it’s impossible to see the face of the right one. That was a huge gathering. We didn’t have any of those in my family historical pictures, so this was fun. :)
A lot of people got it wrong, so I was delighted when somebody finally found that guy, Marsha. He was looking straight at me as if he knew I was taking that shot even though I must have appeared as a tiny dot from where he was sitting.
The photo was taken in a theatre that sits over 1.000 people. That particular night we saw ‘The Jersey Boys.’ Great music and a great show.
Wow, that is a huge theater. When was it taken?
Photo was taken about a year ago.
What a wonderful photo to have as a memoir, Hugh. After reading the comments, my guess was correct.
Glad you guessed right, Eugi. Yes, an aunt give me this photo a few years ago. Sadly she is no longer with us, but I’m glad I found out that it contained my Grandfather.
The formidable behatted lady one in from the right. Clearly still in disguise from his SOE exploits but even black and white can’t hide that mischievous Roberts twinkle
I can’t hide anything from you, can I? (whoever you are).
I was going to say front right in chair, but I see somebody else got it right.
My WW is a bit more feathery.

Yes, given there are only three men in the picture, the odds of getting of right were fairly high.
I read in the first comment where your grandfather stands. I would not have guessed right… lol
I hadn’t realised that there is only three men in the picture, so the odds of getting it right were quite high.
I thought you were aware of this fact which actually was the reason you sent out that question 😄
No, it hadn’t occurred to me, Erika, until someone mentioned it.
Too Funny!!
I am guessing but could it be the gentleman against the wall next to the lady with crossed arms?

Yes, you’re right, Esme.
Wild guess for sure
The previous comments gave me the answer, Hugh. A fantastic historical image– family reunion, or birthday perhaps? You resemble your grandfather (under the flag)–was he a redhead?
You should be able to see details of the occasion as the caption under the photo, Terri. Please do let me know if it’s not showing on the post.
Yes, my grandfather looked very much like my father, but both had black hair. However, one of my father’s sisters was a redhead.
Oh. Now I see the caption. Very cool, an amazingly auspicious occasion!
Phew! Glad the caption is showing, Terri.
I think it’s the gentleman under the flag, Hugh! Cher xoxoxo
Yes, you’re right. Thanks, Cher.
I didn’t want to look at what others had guessed, so I didn’t know if I was right until your comment! Thank you, Hugh, and what a fantastic picture! Cher xoxoxo
Even though the man right front looks a little like you, I would have to bet on the man under the flag, given the time of the photo!
And you are correct about the man under the flag, Noelle. That’s my grandfather.
woo hoo
Left front?
Thanks for having a go, Annette. Wrong answer I’m afraid.
You are kidding, right? What was the occasion?
Victory in Europe Day – May 1945. The picture was taken in the street my Grandparents lived. My Grandmother was towards the back somewhere.
I think he’s sitting in the front on the right. A prominent man!
Thanks for having a go, Liesbet. Not the right person I’m afraid. But I agree with you.
Under the flag?
Well done, Dan.
I’ll guess the gentleman seating front left….
Thanks for having a go, Cathy. No him, I’m afraid.
