I love it! I am imagining myself there sitting in front of the window gazing at the sea. I would want to stay right there all day reading and writing. At night, I’d close the shutters like you said because I don’t want anyone looking in at me. My husband would laugh that nobody could be out there at night. Well, I’ve seen plenty of movies and read books where some creepy character is doing exactly that!
Could you walk to the beach? This reminds me of when I was young and my parents took us to Canada on Lake Erie. We rented a house similar to this one. It had shutters on every window to keep out the cold and rain.
It was the perfect place to sit and read while drinking tea, Kay. As it was not too overlooked, we kept the shutters open sometimes to see the stars glimmering on the sea. It was quite the sight, especially with the sound of the waves.
Yes, the beach was within walking distance, and we found it best to walk first thing in the morning before it got too busy. A walk along the beach before breakfast was the perfect way to start the day.
I think I’ll try to do a Wordless Wednesday post soon. Thanks, Hugh
Please feel free to link your post to mine if you decide to do one, Kay.
Oh, what a dream location, and a dream of having this view when waking up in the morning. Wonderful!!
Unfortunately, Erika, the bedroom window looked out onto a white wall. However, we saw the view behind the shutters much more because they were in the main living area of the cottage.
Oh, I understand. At least you had that view from somewhere.
it’s a perfect shot Hugh 💜💜
That’s quite a shot – like an Andrew Wyeth painting. Are you familiar with Wyeth’s work?
I’m not very good when it comes to artists, Jan. I don’t know of him, but I’ll check his work out on the internet.
His most famous painting was Christina’s World – but your shot reminded me of Wind from the Sea – at least I think that’s the title!
I’ll certainly check his work out.
Hugh! This is a stunning reflection! WOW!
Thanks, Colleen. It was a holiday cottage we stayed at a few years ago.
What a beautiful shot! I would have that photo framed.
That’s lovely to say; thanks, Colleen. Framing your own work is something I’ve never considered doing.
It’s a stunning photo, Hugh!
Now this is the life, Hugh. The beach is calling and I must go…even the shutters are beautiful!
You don’t often see shutters in the UK, Terri. I was surprised to see these. But they looked perfect set against the view that was on offer.
This reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting. Lovely.
Not an artist I know, Jennie. I will have to look him up.
I think you will smile and see the similarity.
What’s behind the shutters?
I could easily guess.
Behind the shutter is a meditation class of Zen sea otters, each balancing a rock on their belly, totally at peace. I am jealous! 😂😃
That’s quite the answer; it’s nothing like I was expecting. Thank you for the laugh.
Welcome, Hugh.
Beautiful click and such a lovely angle. 24 x 7 peace!
Like the lighting!
Thank you, Hugh, for sharing. Now, coming to the question part of your previous post (July 3rd), apologies for the delay.
Question: Would you swim to the boat or wait by the lamppost for somebody to bring it to you?
Answer: I’d wait by the lamppost, practicing my best “damsel in distress” pose, hoping a hero arrives with snacks and a paddleboard. My swimming skills are more splash than dash! 😂🤣😃😃
That’s the best answer to my question on last week’s Wordless Wednesday post. I can’t swim, so I’ll join you on the quayside. Let’s hope the hero arrives before it starts raining.
Thank you, Hugh.
it looks open to al possibilities
wonderful view
I’d love to know why you think it’s wonderful, Beth.
Fantastic view – just my dream! The only time we closed our shutters when we lived in Plymouth was when a hurricane threatened!
Fortunately, there have been no recent hurricanes in the UK, although there was one in 1985. I’d still close them at night, though, as I don’t like the thought of being watched from outside.
I could live with a view like that, Hugh.
We did for 5 days, Cathy. Sad to have had to leave it, but I’m glad we live near the coast.
Wonderful shot.
I’d love to know why you thought so.
I am not a photographer but the depth of field in this image is fanastic. I love the way you reveal what’s on the other side of the window.
It’s often challenging to capture depth in photography, so your feedback on this photo certainly has given me a boost. Thank you.
That’s a nice shot. It feels like there’s a feeling of space to the day ahead, one to be spent on it’s own terms.
A holiday-let perhaps.
What a lovely thought, Paul. It was a holiday cottage belonging to a large hotel. It was dog-friendly, too, perfect for us.
That view is just right! Greetings from Belgium, Hugh. :)
Welcome back to Europe, Liesbet. I hope you’re enjoying our unseasonal summer. I’m rather enjoying the cool temperatures.
Thanks, Hugh. So far, so good. :-)
Here is mine Hugh 😀
what a beautiful view my dream is to be there right now and feel some warmth. You have caught the perfect light in this photo 💜💜💜
I was lucky to get that shot, Willow. I think the one shutter was still closed to stop the sun coming in.
