It’s the first time I’ve ‘met’ you – or your interesting shadow anyway. And the first time I’ve participated in Wordless Wednesday. In my case with a reflection, rather than a shadow: https://margaret21.com/2023/10/18/wordless-wednesday-2/
Thank you, Margaret. Good to meet you.
I like reflections as much as I do shadows.
Thank yoiu for linking to my Wordless Wednesday post.
Well, it’s a fun diversion mid-week. Thanks!
I spend most of my waking day wondering where my Shadow is and what is it up to.
That’s the kind of shadows I like.
Interesting contrast
Thanks. What makes it interesting? I’d love to know.
Stunning photography, Hugh! I’ll have to check my shadow when the sun shines. We have rain all day where I live.
Same here, Eugi. But a sunny, cold weekend is forcasted. So plenty of time for shadow hunting.
Shadows are funny – they change according to light – sometimes taller, sometimes shorter, sometimes fatter and sometimes leaner 😀. My entry is here:
You’re the first to say that shadows are funny. I guess it all depends on what they do. It’s when they do the unexpected that makes them not so funny anymore. A little my shadow in my photo which was facing me when it should have been looking away from me.
They are just shadows Hugh 😀.
Lol, I think there are more to shadows than what we think.
My shadow would be more of an eclipse, lol!
I’m not very photogenic anyway, but one of our pooches sure is at – https://macsopinion.com/wordless-wednesday-number-25
Thank you. Our pets alway make such good subjects for photography. I love their shadows too.
Good question, does it? I would have not recognized you 😂
I guess it depends on the angle of the sun, Erika.
I will have to wait for the sun to come out and then see how my shadow shows up. I love the textures of the wall and how you captures this image
My contribution this week: https://esmesalon.com/every-cloud-has-a-silver-lining/
Thank you, Esme. Yes, those textures on the walls were superb. They reminded me of the old method of artexing walls and ceilings.
What if your shadow moved but you didn’t? Maybe it decides to walk away completely, looking for someone else to follow.
Now those are scary thoughts. I don’t like the idea of my shadow leaving me for good.
Happy Wednesday, Hugh :)
Thank you. You too, LL.
This image shows textures, your shadow, and the warmth of the sunset, Hugh! A great photography trifecta. My shadows usually look taller and slimmer :)
I loved the textures of those walls and tiles, Terri. And that shadow spoked me out as it seemed to be facing me, when it should have been looking away.
Actually much better because it’s usually thinner!
Yes, so I probably should not say that it’s usually the position of sunlight that makes shadows look thin.
Must admit the wall attracted my attention more than your shadow, with that extra layer of concrete – lets hope its not the crumbly kind. :) As for the shadow, I imagine it feels the sun behind warming it up and making it feel cosy and wishing to stay against the wall
I find the shadow strange, Brenda. Given it’s my shadow (and I took the photo) I can’t help but feel the shadow is facing me, rather it facing away from me.
Glad you like the textures of the walls, too. Fortunately, nothing crumbling while I was there.
Glad to hear the wall is safe. I assumed it was your shadow. Facing you – interesting. Normally we think about shadow’s trying to escape/break free – maybe you had it trapped against the wall and it was scared
Who knows, Brenda? Shadows can be fascinating subjects to talk about. They never show us exactly what they look like, and can differ so much depending on what time of the day it is and wether the sun is out or not. I wonder where they hide when we can’t see them? Questions, questions, questions…
Lol. I love the ideaof them hiding 😆. I was taking some photos while walking to the station. Now I’ve got to go see if my shadows have appeared. Now you’ve really got me thinking … are reflections shadows too? (sitting on the train looking at my reflection in the glass)
That’s a great question, Brenda. I think a reflection would argue that it’s not a shadow because you can clearly see what you look like when looking at a reflection. Whereas a shadow hides a lot of the details.
Let me recheck :)
Please let us know.
