Flying like a bird – I’m not that brave though. I saw a paraglider take off from the park where I walk every day. It was interesting watching him. The contrast between the paraglider and the blue sky is amazing. Here is my post of a hungry heron fishing in a catch-and-release pond. He gets to keep the fish, no questions asked. :)
I’ve never seen them take off as they’re usually at the top of a mountain, Linda. But watching them land is interesting. They always do it so elegantly.
I was watching a “bird’s eye view” of a man who parachuted into the Indy 500 a few weeks ago. There was quite a big crowd and he had a GoPro on his helmet and jumped out, we saw the parachute unfurl and he landed in the middle of the oval … nerves of steel!
I agree. You wouldn’t get me doing that, Linda.
Fabulous photo, Hugh. Thanks for the tip to add a description for an image.
You’re welcome, Eugi.
Is that you up there Hugh? Mighty brave, I hope you had a soft landing!
No, not me. You wouldn’t get me up there. My feet stay firmly on or very near the ground.
I’m sure there is so much freedom in paragliding, but I would be afraid to try it. I prefer “feet on the ground” adventures. Nice WW post, Hugh.
Same here, Kellye. I prefer my feet on the ground where I can look up.
Wow, can’t help but wonder what it must feel like up there. Which is the mark of a good photograph of course, to make you wonder.
Thanks, Paul. I have no idea what it’s like up there as I’m not good with heights.
Wonderful photo for Wordless Wednesday. :D :D
Here is my entry.
Thanks, Cee.
Lol! I thought it was a sun dog.
I’m pleased to say I didn’t spot an halos or dogs up there. Although I have seen dogs hand glide.
Happy Wednesday, I am cooking up a storm which is close to flying high. Calories are weightless, you know…
So I hear. I just wish there were not so many in the things I like the most – like chocolate and cakes.
totally
What a cool shot of the paraglider, Hugh–now that is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors! It almost looks like a dragonfly! 15 years ago, I would have totally gone paragliding. At Lake Tahoe, they tow paragliders from boats on the lake. My ex-husband used to hang glide.
I’ve seen paragliders being pulled by boats here in the bay, Terri. The one in this photo took off from the top of a mountain and landed in a meadow. He was up there for at least 40 minutes. The way he controlled the glider was amazing. His journey down looked well-controlled and professional. He landed safely exactly on the spot marked out to land.
We have a friend who has logged 1000s of hours of parachuting. He also windsurf, so thrillseeking is in his blood. It takes a lot to be able to free paraglide. Great capture!
An absolutely amazing shot. Something I have never done, but would love to do but not sure if at my age I will be able to do a landing, so maybe I should skip this idea.

Lol, it’s the thought of the heights that terrify me the most, Esme. I’d be glad to do the landing so as to have my feet back on the ground.
Oh! Wow Hugh that’s amazing 💜and very apt 🌈
Thanks, Willow.
What fun! I am not afraid of heights but this might be a bit too vigorous for me! Especially the landing!
I watched him land. It was done very gently. Lowered himself down on the spot he had chosen.
Great shot, Hugh. That was me a few months ago in Colombia, but without the blue skies. I love blue skies and can’t wait to get to a place/country where they are more common again.
Have you ever gone paragliding? (I surely could not think about the past tense of to paraglide! Paraglid? Paraglided? Have you ever paraglided?)
No, I’d never do anything like paragliding, Liesbet. I’m too afraid of heights, unless I’m in a tall building with glass and something to hold on to protecting me from falling off the edge. I’d rather ride a rollercoaster.
Rather him or her than me!
Same here, Cathy. Me and heights do not mix well.
I know the feeling, Hugh.
Happy Wednesday :)
Thank you. You too.
