  1. You reminded me of my growing up in Brooklyn, NY where it was never a problem to find a pair of sneakers, Sneakers were thrown and left hanging above everyone’s heads dangling by their shoelaces from wires. So you walked down the street and saw all these sneakers hanging above. I never quite figured out why there was this time but there was and it always seemed so odd to me,

    1. I remember seeing the same on telegraph wires, although I never see it happening anymore. It may have something to do with the reply I just left Erika about why shoes used to be tied to the high branches of some trees.

    1. I’ve seen random shoes left on the beach. I guess they can fall out of bags, but they are strange sights when you see just one. It’s a little like finding a random sock in my drawer.

      1. Yes, exactly 😅 But that’s right, there they can fall out of a bag. What I always think is weird is when I see a single shoe in the middle of a road. Ok, maybe they just threw a pair out of the window and both shoes ended up at different places. But here too, it looks weird.

        1. Agreed. I’ve also seen shoes tied to trees, but I heard there were good reasons for that. Apparently it’s a sign that drugs that can be bought from under the tree at certain times of the day and night. However, the authorities are now on to that so it doesn’t happen anymore.

  2. Hahaha, Hugh, this just struck me as funny! Such a lovely pastoral beach setting…then a random shoe! I lost a flip flop years ago at the delta I suppose. I’ve stubbornly kept the other one…just in case.

    1. Just in case, Terri. That sounds like me with boxes. I keep them, just in case, but I end up with so many that my partner threatens me with, ‘It’s me or the boxes that have to go!’ I’m pleased to say he’s still here.
