I would paint them! Well I can’t actually see the photo as I am blind, but to me if there is rust on something then I would think it would look like an eyesore!

I’m still trying to figure out what they were. Definitely, as the majority have said, leave them natural.
They are some handmade mushrooms made out of metal. Could be very old.
