My favorites are handmade ornaments gifted to me by friends. I’ve moved several times and they have survived. Years ago I purchased plastic bins with slots to store Christmas decorations which I credit with helping in the survival of fragile ornaments.
I still use old shoe boxes to store some of my tree ornaments. Of course, some do end up damaged, but I tend to wrap the ones I know will shutter the most in bubble wrap. I’ll have to have a look for those plastic bins with slots, Eugi. I’m sure they will be on line somewhere.
Oh! They do Hugh 💜💜
The ornaments in my photo came from my mum’s collection…..I’ve had them 52yrs 💜💜💜
That’s amazing, Willow. I’m so pleased they have survived. They must bring back many happy memories.
Beautiful Huge love the photos especially the angel 💜💜
Thank you, Willow.
A pleasure Hugh ☺️☺️
Ours is the angel on the top, she belonged and was made by my grandmother when she was a child so is over 80 years old.
Wow! That’s amazing, Claire. Your angel is double the age of mine. I love how your grandmother also homemade your angel. Just think of all the stories that angel could tell.
I had to replace our angel. She has seen the last Christmas from ahigh. Got her in 1987. The oldest is an ornament my parents bought to commemorate “baby’s first Christmas” – my 1st which dates it to 1964.
I had no idea that ‘Baby’s first Christmas’ decorations were around in the 1960s, Danny. I thought they were more of a modern tree decoration. Sorry to hear your treetop angel has seen better days. What have you replaced her with at the top of the tree?
‘Baby’s first Christmas’ were not around in the 1960s. My parents bought an ornament and wrote on on ‘Baby’s first Christmas’ (LOL). The old gal just sorta fell apart, but we replaced her with an angel very similar in appearance.
My goodness, they started a trend that would happen a few decades later, Danny. I know that many of the big stores sell those kind of tree ornaments and have been doing so for some years. I’ve even seen snow-globes and other items with ‘baby’s first Christmas’ on them.
They were ahead of their time, they just didn’t realize they were onto something. Merry Christmas
Awh, how lovely! I think my favorite would be our treetop angel and probably it is also one of the oldest decorations.
Treetop Angels and fairies seem to be popular amongst oldest tree decorations. Do you know how old yours is? Mine is 40 this Christmas.
My favorite being ornaments our kids made, but sadly as lots of other stuff ain’t no more. Now I await stuff being made by the grandkids and will treasure them.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to you Hugh and the rest of your readers.

Something to look forward too, Esme.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Yes indeed, thanks Hugh. Merry Christmas
What a great question, Hugh, and the perfect, festive post to help get us into the swing of the holiday season! I enjoy seeing the old fashioned ornaments. My favorites are the handmade ones I received as gifts over the years.
It’s long gone now, but my dad kept an old star I made out of aluminum foil and macaroni, as a kid.
Cheers for a Merry Christmas to you all and enjoy the local festivities 🎄❤️
Your homemade star sounds amazing, Terri. What a shame it is no more. I bet it look adorable on top of the tree every year.
I wish I still had the tree ornaments we had when I was a child. Sadly, my father got rid of them all after my parents spilt up. But I remember them with fond memories, especially the victorian lanterns (which go for a lot of money on eBay) that lit up the tree.
Merry Christmas.
Hugh, I wasn’t sure if the favorite and oldest Xmas ornament was yours or Wordless Wed., so sent a link for my “entry” above.
Thank you, Judy. They were as part of the Wordless Wednesday challenge I do every week.
Thank you for sharing yours with us.
Ours is also a dog. We found this ornament the year our first Irish Setter passed away. I don’t normally add photos (feel free to delete).
To have found it the first year after your Irish setter passed away speaks volume to me, Dan.
Me, too, Hugh. They don’t make a lot of Irish Setter stuff.
Ours is the angel on top of the tree, made with cardboard and lace!
How old it it? Does it hold happy memories?
We got it maybe 35+ years ago, when the kids were really little!
Happy Holidays! :)
