It’s obviously a Shoe Tree.
Popular answer.
So, this is funny! Who gets the idea to put shoes on a tree 😅
I know, right? But I did find out why this all started. It’s mentioned in the comments, Erika.
I’ll check, thank you!
all of the above 💜💚💚😁
There has to be quite a story behind that tree!
Yes, and it’s all in the comments. I was pretty shocked when told. I had no idea.
What can I say? Cute!
Thank you.
I guessed a shoe tree as well, Hugh! If only shoes could grow on trees. What a funny photo and so perfect for Sunday Stills’ weird and oddball theme! I read your comment that shoes in trees may be a signal for drugs, which makes it feel sad. Like many, I’ve seen the occasional pair hanging on overhead wires, and sadly have watched silly teens throw them up there–it takes technique, LOL! But all those shoes? They’ve been there a while!
The shoes in my photo are no longer there, Terri. The authorities removed them all, but it must have taken some doing as there were so many on this tree. But I do see the occasional ones hanging from overhead wires. I find it strange that it’s usually just one shoe from a pair. I wonder what they did with the other one and if they walked home barefooted or with just one shoe on? I’ve heard of more of these secret signs and what they mean. The secret usually doesn’t last long once too many people know what they mean.
Great that you captured the oddball display when you did, Hugh. Chuckled at the idea of someone throwing their shoe up and walking home barefooted 🤣🤣
Most definitely a sneaky shoe tree. Love it
Hope to see this at WW #ES
My entry for today Mount Kilimanjaro
Thank you.
I know, I know – a shoe tree. Next time I’m looking for some sneakers i’ll go to the shoe tree, LOL
Hopefully, they’ll be in good condition, but you’ll need a ladder to find out.
The first time I’ve seen a shoe tree, Hugh. I had no idea this happened!
This was a few years ago now, Cathy. It doesn’t happen much anymore since the authorities discovered why people were tying shoes to the branches of trees.
Ah, yes. I hadn’t read all the comments when I posted.
surely it’s a shoe tree, though I’m not sure it would keep most in shape? Hugs
That’s very true, David. Size nine this shoe tree is not.
a fruit leather tree!
I can imagine if leather grew on trees.
It’s a Sneaker Tree of the Mischievous genus. Here’s my WW: https://chambersontheroad.com/2024/10/02/wordless-wednesday-10-2-2023/
That’s a great way of putting it, Betty. I’ll be over to check your post later. Thanks for the link.
funny one :)

Not so funny if any of them fall on your head. I recommend wearing a hard hat when walking past.
Haha, funny one, Hugh! I’ve seen pairs of shoes thrown over electrical wires crossing the street in many countries but never figured out why. Do you know why people practice this habit of shoe throwing?
I was told by somebody I know who works for the police that trees with shoes hanging from the branches were once a sign that people could buy drugs there, Liesbet. Fortunately, it became so well known that people don’t do it anymore, although I do come across the odd place where I see shoes dangling from telegraph wires. I do wonder why people throw shoes up there, especially when it’s only one shoe.
a very interesting photo Hugh! Where did you take it?
This one was taken in a meadow where I walk the dogs, Carol anne. Those fruits weren’t there long. Somebody came along and harvested the whole lot.
Behold! You’ve stumbled upon the legendary Sneakerfruit Tree, where old shoes dangle like overripe bananas! 🌳👟
These elusive “fruits” thrive in their natural habitat—schoolyards, skate parks, and anywhere mischief brews.
Legend says they grow best when watered with a cocktail of teenage angst, unfinished homework, and just a sprinkle of “I totally wasn’t out past curfew.” 😉 They say if you shake the tree hard enough, you’ll get a pair… but probably just detention.😀🤣😂
I love your answer. I can only imagine children and teenagers taking off their shoes (and sneakers) and throwing them into the branches. I’ve seen the same fruits hanging from telegraph wires, too.
Haha, thanks, Hugh! Those shoes hanging from wires always feel like a secret code between kids—like “I was here, and so was my footwear!” Sneakers with altitude dreams! 😄
As I learned from a friend, they certainly used to have a secret code explaining why they were put there. But once too many people discovered that code, it all stopped.
Looks like a classic case of too many cooks in the kitchen! Once everyone cracked the code, the magic faded away. Now it’s just a forgotten riddle gathering dust! 🗝️🔍
Late to the party, Hugh. I guess this is a shoetree! I can’t share these posts on FB? x
I think shoe tree is going to be a popular answer, Judith.
I looked at the Facebook sharing button, and it seems to be working from my computer. However, as I’m not on Facebook, I only got as far as the screen asking me to sign in.
I found it, Hugh. And posted. Joy!! x
Excellent. Thanks for letting me know and for sharing, Judith.
Very serene. Looks like freedom to me
I did wonder why only shoes and why no clothes? For freedom, I’d have hang everything on those branches.
In Norway wearing no cloths at this time of year would make one feel cold, not free
I’ve seen some people punch holes in the ice and take ice-cold dips for fun and freedom. The thought makes me want to switch the heating up to full blast.
Hehehe, me too
That’s easy, it’s a shoe tree.
I’d have trouble using this shoe tree when putting it into my shoes. I guess it would fit a giant’s shoes, though?
😊
