Thanks so much for participating and sharing your London Olympics closing ceremony with us at #39 #WW (Words welcome). See you Wednesday at #40, https://esmesalon.com/tag/wordlesswednesday/
Since I hadn’t watched any I was glad to see the photo.
Thank you, although this photo was taken at the London 2012 games, not the games in Paris 2024.
Stunning view of the closing ceremonies, Hugh. It had to be thrilling to have been there. The athletes work so hard and I love to watch them display their amazing skills.
It was amazing to have been there watching it all unfold, Eugi. I wasn’t going to allow attending a once-in-a-lifetime-event pass me by.
I can only imagine the thrill of being there, Hugh.
I absolutely loved the London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies. I loved the denim jackets the Canadian Olympic Team wore for the London closing ceremonies so much that I treated myself and bought one.
Yes, I will be watching the Paris closing ceremonies. Something I observed during the opening ceremonies is how recognizable so many of the Paris landmarks are. London was the same. There aren’t many cities like that in the world.
That’s true, Michelle. Do you still own that denim jacket?
Glad you’ll be watching. I’m looking forward to seeing what they have their sleeves for the closing ceremony. If it’s anything like the opening ceremony, it’ll be epic.
Oh yes, I still own the jacket! It’s one of my favourites. It will be tough to top their opening ceremonies but I think they’ll have another ace up their sleeve.
I’m sure they will. The opening ceremony was so different. I have a feeling that the closing ceremony will be the same.
great photo Hugh you said you didn’t go is that a shot from your TV. If so it’s great very atmospheric 💜💜
No, I was there, Willow. So the photo was taken at the event.
Oh! Sorry Hugh I said it was atmospheric and it certainly is! I mistakenly thought you had said that you had it been 💜💜
Wow! You been going to all of these?
Yes, I was very lucky to attend both. I wasn’t going to give up on attending a once-in-a-lifetime event.
It’s cool that this is the year you chose to share as a dear friend of mine’s grandson won Silver in his event (high jump) His name is Erik Kynard from Toledo, OH. What is even MORE amazing than me having known this young man’s family since he was 2 years old, is that in 2021, the Olympic committee revoked the Gold from the man who won it back in 2012 and awarded it to Erik!
How wonderful to know somebody who has won an Olympic medal, Annette. I can not claim that, although my great-niece (who will be six next month) has already told me that she is going to win gold at the 2032 Olympic games.
I shall root for her!
I love when a spectacular event from an athlete comes across my news feed. Sadly, when I ask groups I’m in how many are watching, it’s a very small number. I’m not either, too put off by the opening ceremony. Bring back 2012!
I have some great memories of the London 2012 Olympics. Living in the city at the time, the whole month of the event was spent in party mode. It was an amazing experience.
Amazing shot Hugh, not an Olympic viewer, but can admire the scene
Hope to see you

Thank you.
I’ve enjoyed being able to get some small glimpses of off beat sports this time! I am not sure about the closing ceremony, although the organizer have hinted that Tom Cruise is going to be doing something special.
Yes, I heard that Tom Cruise was going to be involved. And given what the opening ceremony was like, I think we will be surprised with the closing ceremony, too.
Fabulous image of the closing ceremonies, Hugh! To have been there was a thrill I’m sure! I’ve managed to watch many of the events on the local news channels and on youtube. I get very emotional watching the athletes perform then discover they won! The celebrations and heartaches are poignant to watch. I’m back from my short break. Enjoy the rest of the games!
My partner gets very emotional when a British athlete wins and then stands on the podium with a gold medal as ‘God Save The King’ is played, Terri. We’ve watched many of the events, but there are some we don’t watch (such as skateboarding). And I don’t think we’ll be watching the breakdancing either.
I hope your short break went according to plan.
The Olympic events are thrilling to watch. I’m so tired of American football, NBA, etc. We were also so excited to watch the French swimmer win gold in his hometown. My brother is a master swimmer, and I swam competitively so we know what goes into a race. It’s been a memorable games so far. Enjoy the last week!
Terri, the French swimmer with four golds, was outstanding. I can only imagine all the advertising deals he’s being offered right now.
I think last Sunday was the very first time that I watched the Olympic games for the first time in my life. But I only did because almost the whole family had fun guessing who wins.
Oh, wow, Erika. I think I’ve watched all the Olympic games (including the winter ones) since I can remember, although I dip in and out of them as some events now (such as skateboarding) do not interest me in the least.
There is so much to watch. Leaving one discipline out does not hurt… lol
