Wordless Wednesday – No words, just pictures. Allow your photo(s) to tell the story.

Photo of three metal mushrooms which have a lot of rust of them.
Would you paint these, or is rust a sign of beauty?

I love them as they are, but would seal the metal against further degradation.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

That’s a good idea. Although they’ve already lasted a very longtime.

  2. dennyho avatar

Metal mushrooms are an architectural addition to your garden, so yes to their beauty!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Thank you. I’m glad you like them.

  3. RasmaSandra avatar

Definitely leave them as they are. After all one would not paint over mushrooms found in the forest and these look like mushrooms that just sprung up where they are.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Great advice. I’m glad you think so. They’ve been there for a very longtime.

Hugh, I’m the one to look at them differently. I’d try to restore them to their shiny beauty. It may be a lot of work, but I’d get help from a professional metal restorer. They could be rare treasures! Not that I don’t like rusty looks, just not on these. 📚🎶 Christine

That’s very true, Christine. It puts me in mind of ‘The Antiques Roadshow.’ There are rare treasures out there.

      1. C.E.Robinson avatar

I’d see if they are rare treasures. They are not the run of the mill garden decorations. 😊

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Maybe creations from the arts and crafts movement (1880-1920)?

  5. Cathy avatar

I have to agree with the other comments, I think they look really good as they are.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

      Glad you think so, Cathy.

  6. Esther Chilton avatar

That’s a hard one. I’d propbably leave them be – the natural look.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

That’s a popular choice, Esther. Now I know what to do with them.

Rusty look for me, when painted it will not have the magic I see now.

That’s very true, Esme. And I like what you say about the magic.

Still love the rusty look, Not sure if its a place to sit and rest or mushrooms, either way love it
Thanks so much for participating and sharing at #15 InLinkz #WordlessWednesday (Words also welcome). See you again next week!

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I don’t think they were big enough for adults to sit on, but a child certainly could. Although they may end up with rust all over them.

  8. seaangel4444 avatar

Oh, I wouldn’t dream of painting these, Hugh. They tell a story as they are, in my opinion anyway! Cher xoxoxo

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

A popular choice Cher. Let Mother Nature take care of them.

      1. seaangel4444 avatar

Thank you, Hugh. I wholeheartedly agree. Cher xoxoxo

  9. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

I like the Rusty rustic look for outdoor decor, Hugh.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

A popular choice, Terri. Mother Nature is a great artist.

  10. Catherine Arcolio avatar

Leave them! They are marvelous just as they are!!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Leaving them as they are seems a popular choice.

  11. Liesbet @ Roaming About avatar

That’s a good question, Hugh! I kind of like their weathered look, but if they would be in my garden, I’d probably paint them in some bright and fun colors. We just visited a ghost town in Northern Chile, where most of the mining buildings and factory area looked like this, all rusty, so this is a timely post and question! :)

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Rust adds a new dimension to a lot of objects, mostly veering to the dark side, Liesbet.
Your ghost town visit sounds fascinating. I’m looking forward to reading about it.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

So, leave them as they are?

      1. philosophy through photography avatar

As a photographer, I leave them as the are😀

  12. Wind Kisses avatar

    NO paint needed.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

They started life as painted, but mother nature has done her thing with them.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

As they are? I think so too, and would leave them as they are.

      1. Annette Rochelle Aben avatar

Oh, absolutely! Exactly as they are!!
