Wordless Wednesday – No words, just pictures. Allow your photo(s) to tell the story.

Photo taken at night from a garden of a building that has lights on in some of the rooms. The lights give an orange glow. There is also one bright, white security light shining.

Your photo is very atmospheric… I love how the warmth of the lights in the windows contrast with the dark, misty (creepy?) exterior.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, those warm lights do look inviting, don’t they? Especially welcoming during cold, winter nights.

  2. bushboy avatar

    Quite etherial Hugh :)

  3. noelleg44 avatar

That is one bright light coming from the third floor! Searching the grounds for an intruder?

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It’s a security light that comes on whenever anyone (or anything) goes pass.

      1. noelleg44 avatar

That’s one heck of a security light!

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Given the size of the garden and there being no other buildings or lighting for miles, I think it has to be strong. It certainly packed a punch.

  4. JT Twissel avatar

Looks like there’s a bubble over that building.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

A building a bubble. I think I’ve seen similar hanging on Christmas trees recently.

Firstly, Happy New Year to you Hugh and all your readers/followers.
What a magic shot, as others mentioned, love the halo

Our own WW will open next week, so hope to see you again as of next week.

Thank you, Esme. Happy New Year to you too.
I look forward to your Wordless Wednesday link opening again next week.

It could look quite ghostly, Hugh but the lights from the building give out warmth. Great shot!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

There was a mist in the air the night I took the photo, so it felt ghostly, Cathy. And the building where the lights were coming from is very old, so I expect a few ghosts walk the corridors (and the gardens).

  7. Eileen avatar

Very atmospheric. I like the halo effect from the spotlight, and the light that just catched the edges of the shrubs and topiary.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It was the bright, white security light that gave that halo effect, Eileen. Made all the more better by there being no light pollution. There was just enough light to highlight some of the objects in the garden. The photo was taken in Dolgellau, North Wales.

        Penmaenuchaf?

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

          Wow! Yes, Well spotted.

          1. Eileen avatar

I’ve never been but it looks lovely from the outside.

            1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It’s beautiful. Very quiet and off the beaten track, but if you’re looking for some peace and quiet to recharge the batteries, it’s a great place to visit.

  8. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

An interesting night shot, Hugh. The windows glow with a warm light but I can barely make out the objects in the shadows. Something is lurking in the foreground. At first I thought a headstone. Do tell 😀

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

That’s a circular pond sounded by some small hedges to look like a maze, Terri. There are also some big stone bowls sat on pillars. You can also just make out two garden benches each side of the photo. The garden took on a completely different look during the night to that of the daytime. No headstones, though.

      1. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

Lol, I didn’t think so. Hard to tell on my phone. Have a great week and hope your 2024 is off to a good start!

I can see Light in the dark 😀. My entry here:

      Only light? Nothing else?

      1. PR avatar

Well, light is the biggest feature!

I like the way there is an arc around the bright white light filling the area with a chilled light in contrast to the warmth of the yellow lights from the window. I love the contrasts caused by the different lights and shadows 💜

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, light and shadows are interesting subjects, especially at nighttime, Willow. They can be eerie, or beautiful, or both. This photo was taken with no light pollution from other sources either.

      1. willowdot21 avatar

        It a beautiful capture 💜

  12. willowdot21 avatar

    That’s a great photo Hugh 💜💜

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Thanks, Willow. Tell me why you think it’s great. What is it that makes it great?
