Haha, love it, Hugh. You must be a giant! Once in a while, I take a photo of our trio’s shadow early morning or late afternoon. We always look huge, but, because of Maya, we are somewhat recognizable. :-)

Yes, shadows of dogs are usually a great giveaway, Liesbet. Although I always think the shadows of Toby and Austin look like cartoon characters.

  2. Terri, Olive Tree Saints avatar

I love photos of shadows, and this one really made me smile. I’d love to see a photo from the other perspective now – facing you, so we can see how tall both you and the tree are.😊 Great photo Hugh!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

      Thanks, Terri.

Shadows are fascinating subjects to photograph and write about. They can change something real into something completely different. But you have to beware when a shadow is not mirroring the same action as its owner.

  3. Eugi avatar

That is a great photo, Hugh! Wild guess – 5’10”.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Not a bad guess, but not right, Eugi. Glad you like the photo. Shadows are great to photograph.

Interesting! You’re as tall as a tree!? By the way, coming from a self-hosted WP, I’ve started noticing various photo challenges (haven’t joined any yet, though). For Wordless Wednesday, the photo shouldn’t have any word included, but also we shouldn’t write anything in the post? Thanks for your advice!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I guess it depends on which species of tree we are talking about.

Judging by the length of the grass blades and the average size of the leaves combined with the sun’s brightness which gives an estimated time of day, I’d calculate that you’re about 5′ 34″ tall.

That’s an interesting measurement. Thank you.

  6. Erika avatar

I like this one a lot. I love such shadow pictures anyway.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

They always make exciting subjects to photograph and write about, Erika.

      1. Erika avatar

        I completely agree, Hugh!

    3’6″?

    Or how about 6’3″?

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I like how you changed those measurements around. Oh, if only I was 6ft 3!

  8. JT Twissel avatar

Interesting angle. Kind of like a fun house mirror! I’m guessing 5’10” – I used to be almost 5’7” but I think I’ve shrunk a bit.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, I thought of funhouse mirrors too. Somebody else mentioned they had shrunk as they have got older. I think is part of growing up (or should that be growing down?)

  9. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

Shadows make for fun images, Hugh. I always love how long shadows slim us down, too 😉

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Shadows can do all sorts of things to us, Terri. But beware of them when they’re not doing the same thing as their owner.

      1. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

        Hmm, food for thought 🤔

  10. Esme Slabbert avatar

My guess would be tree-mendously tall, but all jokes aside how about 5’10” or so.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

That is another excellent answer that made me laugh, but not the correct answer. Shadows can make you look taller…or shorter.

Trigonometry is a good tool but doesn’t work with too little information 😂. Some AI needed here!
Jokes apart, I like the juxtaposition with the tree.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, I like it too. And I love how my shadow seems to have very long legs. I could be wearing a pair of platform shoes from the 1970s.

  12. bushboy avatar

    Treemendously tall 😁

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

      Haha! That’s the best one…yet.

  13. noelleg44 avatar

No idea at all! Guessing – 5’8″? I used to be 5’11” myself but time has shortened me.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I’ve heard that’s one of the many things ageing does to you.

  14. Dan Antion avatar

Too early for maths, Hugh, but I like the photo.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Thanks, Dan. I love the different effects shadows give.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Good guess from the photo, but no.
