Circle Of Love – by Hugh W. Roberts

Vikki floated on cloud nine for years while dating two men who had no idea the other existed.

As soon as she knew which one to propose and marry, she’d divorce her husband and end the relationship with the other man she was secretly seeing.

But Vikki couldn’t make up her mind.

Eventually, her bubble burst, and she was brought down from cloud nine with a bump when her husband made up her mind for her when she found him in bed with one of her lovers.

It wasn’t long before all four were floating on cloud nine again.

[…] Hugh Roberts said, “Loved reading this short piece about Shiela. She reminded me so much of a female James Bond. I think nobody will ever be able to trace her because any CCTV will be wiped by the government. As for the lottery ticket as payment, I’m convinced somebody rigs the numbers on each draw, probably the government, so it’s a great way of them paying somebody who needs to be off the radar and needs never have to record wages. A delightful read, Philip.” […]

That’s good to hear. I always enjoy that kind of feedback. Thank you.

Great story, Hugh! It reminds me of the series I’m watching, Jane the Virgin, which my husband thinks is totally stupid, but I love it. She constantly has a triangle going, and just after 42 episodes, she finally marries her sweetheart of many years, he goes out to get some ice and is shot. So she’s a married virgin with a son – but that’s part of the intrigue. I think more is going on here than ends at 99 words. :)

42 episodes? Wow! You must be totally hooked on that show, Marsha. I recently watched ‘Conversations With Friends’, a BBC drama, which was only 12 episodes, and although it was a great drama, it was too long drawn out.

Oh, Hugh, I binge. My husband hates it, but it’s been raining a lot, so that means staying inside. I need to get myself weaned, but I’m afraid I’d just find something else. Before that I was binge reading Charles Dickens. :)

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Given all the rain you are having, Marsha, it is no wonder you are binging. I’d be doing the same.

Thanks, Hugh. I did get up and write a post this morning, so that made me feel more productive. :)

Rainy days are great for writing.

True that, and organizing photos. Of course, any day is a good day for that! :)

LOL! Your story reminds me of those old comedies with people running in and out of the wrong bedrooms :)

What a lovely image. But I know those scenes.

    Isn’t karma grand? Lol. :)

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It is when it’s not happening to you.

  8. Colleen Chesebro: WordCraftPoetry avatar

LOL! OK… I didn’t see that ending, but I guess it was a “happy ending?” LOL! 🤣

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, a happy ending for all, in the end, Colleen.

      1. Colleen Chesebro: WordCraftPoetry avatar

Your stories are always a surprise ending, Hugh. Well done. <3

  9. Robert J Jr. avatar

    Interesting change in the story.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Yes, but all ended well with a happy ending.

It does beg the question as to who are the tenants of clouds one to eight and what they are feeling…

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It does, doesn’t it? So much so that I had to look up the origins of cloud 9.

‘According to their code abbreviations, zero represented the lowest clouds (stratus), and nine, the tallest clouds (cumulonimbus, or thunderstorm clouds). From this, the expression “cloud nine” was likely born!’

So, cloud nine is the highest cloud, and some say that the most happiness one can have.

        Thank oh Wise Owl

  11. Terri Webster Schrandt avatar

Funny one, Hugh! At first I thought your dark side had them all floating in an eternal cloud nine, LOL! But Vikki’s problems were solved!

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Sometimes, solving our problems can be taken out of our hands for us, Terri. At least there was a happy outcome for all concerned in this flash. That’s not my usual plan for my charchters.

  12. Erika avatar

Twist over twist with only 99 words 😂

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I hadn’t realised how many twists I’d gotten it.

      1. Erika avatar

You are such a genius that you don’t even notice it anymore😄

  13. noelleg44 avatar

    Veeerrry interesting……

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I’m glad you think so. A circle of happiness, I hope.

  14. Liesbet @ Roaming About avatar

That is just awesome, Hugh! And another happy ending… Are you becoming soft? :)

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I think I am, Liesbet. I’ve lost my dark side. I need to find it.

      1. Liesbet @ Roaming About avatar

Or you could take a break from it. I think there is and will always be room on the dark side.

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I hope they will have me back. I’m sure they will.
