Did You Miss Any Of These? Monthly Round-Up – July 2025

I’ve always believed that the summer months are quieter in the blogging world because many of us are off doing better things and making the most of the weather, provided it’s not too hot and humid. Yet, I have been proved wrong this summer, with my stats for June being significantly higher compared to June 2024, and they remained much the same for July. But how are your stats doing for the year so far?

Including this post, I’ve published 31 posts so far this year, which is significantly fewer than I’ve ever done, except for 2014, my first year of blogging. My blogging tips posts remain popular, although I’m pleased that both my flash fiction posts received much more engagement than previous flash fiction posts.

When was the last time you backed up your blog? Don’t need to back it up? Think again. I’d recommend reading the last post on the following list.

Here’s your opportunity to catch up on my four blog posts from July 2025.

  • Bill faces a crucial decision at a crossroads, ultimately choosing a hidden path that leads to complicated consequences for him and his wife.

Flash Fiction – Crossroads Of Desire

  • Why this new WordPress feature functions as a backdoor for verifying that everything is working as intended on your blog.

Now This Is Why Keeping Your WordPress Site Updated Matters

  • An empty house. Brightly coloured feathers on the stairs. But where do they lead, and what do they mean? Adrian is about to find out.

Flash Fiction – Follow The Feathers

  • Would you know what to do if your blog vanished without explanation? My post describes how you can prevent the nightmare of losing all your blog’s content.

You do such a good job of these monthly roundups, Hugh. I’m using this post as my link in this month’s Story Chat for two reasons: people can see how you do the monthly round-up and they might enjoy referring back to it to decide which post to read. I rarely look at my stats, so out of curiosity, I did as I’m replying. My lowest month was April. July was almost the same as March, and the difference between the low and high were about 900 views. I was moving during that time and getting my book ready for publication in May, so that makes sense.

Thanks, Marsha. Some bloggers claim that these monthly round-up posts are a waste of time and don’t do them, but I see them as a great reminder of what has been published, allowing readers to catch up if they wish. I’ve also had many readers thank me for publishing round-up posts because they missed a post they didn’t want to miss.

Stats is a crazy world. I now publish much less than I used to, yet my stats are just as good as they were last year. I think cutting down on the number of posts you publish helps you focus more on the quality of the posts you do publish. Unfortunately, some bloggers believe that if they don’t publish daily, their blog and website statistics will decline. I wanted to prove that crazy idea wrong.

Additionally, blogging solely for the sake of blogging doesn’t look good, as the quality of posts often suffers. There are a couple of blogs that I follow, which are now publishing poor-quality posts because they’ve increased their frequency of publication, sometimes three times a day. Needless to say, engagement on those posts is also poor.

Yikes! I can barely keep up with six a month.

My stats are down a tad, and most likely because I stopped posting my weekly prompt. And that’s fine with me because I felt like I was in a rut and needed to move on to something new. Thank you for all you do, Hugh.

I did the same with ditching my Wordless Wednesday feature, Eugi. I grew to hate it because the majority of the comments were from those who just ran after leaving their link — no discussion — nothing but a link.

I experienced that, as well, Hugh. Though, I enjoyed reading the entries, it was eating up my time that could be spent better elsewhere.
