Boost Your WordPress Blog’s Reach: A Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a BlueSky Sharing Button

In my recent post, Navigating the Social Media Landscape: My Journey with Five Platforms, I shared my experiences with the social media platform BlueSky, which I am excited to embrace as a new user!

Since BlueSky is new and (at the time of this post) has over 30 million users, it’s an exciting opportunity for WordPress bloggers to enhance their posts by adding a BlueSky sharing button at the end of their posts!

Let me empower your blog by showing you how to connect it to BlueSky. Many blogs have yet to embrace this fantastic feature (and it’s not only BlueSky that you can connect to your blog).

How To Add A BlueSky Sharing Button

  • On the dashboard of your blog, go to Tools – Marketing.
  • On the Marketing and Integrations page, click on the Sharing Buttons icon.

click the Sharing Buttons icon.
  • Click on the Edit sharing buttons icon.

Click the Edit Sharing Buttons icon.
  • In the Edit visible buttons box, click on the BlueSky sharing button. If you do not already have it as a sharing button, it will be ghosted out.

Select the BlueSky sharing button.
  • Click the Save Changes button.
  • The BlueSky sharing button will now appear on your blog posts.

Visitors can now share your posts with BlueSky.
  • Click the Reorder button to rearrange the order of the sharing buttons on your blog posts. To do so, click on one of them and drag the button to where you want it to sit.
  • Click the Save Changes button.

How To Connect Your BlueSky Account To Your WordPress Blog

  • On the dashboard on your blog, go to Tools – Marketing.
  • On the Marketing and Integrations page, click on the Connections icon.

  • In the Share posts with Jetpack social box, look for BlueSky and click the connect button.

Click the BlueSky connect button.
  • Add your BlueSky Handle and BlueSky app password in the boxes and click the Connect account button.

  • You’ll be asked to confirm your BlueSky account by clicking another Connect button.

Confirm your BlueSky account.
  • Your BlueSky account is now connected to your WordPress blog. WordPress will share your posts directly with your BlueSky account whenever you publish a new post.

Remember to connect other social media accounts to your WordPress blog by following the same instructions.

    Thank you for this, Hugh. I love Bluesky, however, I found I have to be careful of who I follow. When I gain a new follower who has nothing posted, I don’t follow them back. I prefer to follow those with like-minded interests.

      I’ve been contacted a few times by what I thought were authors trying to sell me marketing for my books, Eugi. I’ve noticed that they have very few of their own posts on their account, have lots of shares, few followers. are following lots of people, and have no details of any of their own books. I now stop following those accounts.

    Thanks for the perfect timing Hugh (hope this comment goes through, I’ve been having difficulties leaving them. I like Bluesky for its engagement and photo challenges. But, I added the Bluesky and Facebook Widgets to my sidebar and they both appear blank (white boxes). Weird. If this comment goes through, I might have fixed the issue by changing my time zone back to Pacific.

      I had a quick look and both boxes do open to BlueSky and Facebook, but why they are blank is a mystery, Terri. It could be a bug associated with the theme you’re using. Only WordPress would know.

      I got your email – thank you. This comment was waiting in my moderation queue, but it was the only comment from you. Looks like you found the fix, though.

      I know you already have the BlueSky sharing button at the end of your posts, but were you able to connect your BlueSky account to your blog?

            Yep, changing the theme background colors worked! I’m still having trouble leaving comments using my computer. Jet pack app on my phone seems to be OK.

              I got the same errors yesterday when leaving comments on my desktop computer. I slept on it and considered what could be causing the problem, which I will try tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted, Terri.

          I had a few of them yesterday, Terri. At the moment, I am copying any comments I leave as if the error occurred, when I try a second time, it seems to work.

          If I get any today, I’ll send a screenshot to WordPress.

            I can leave a comment in Jetpack. Yesterday evening, on my PC, I wrote a comment and got that same error message. I also copied and saved some comments and tried again.

    Thanks for this Hugh. In the coming weeks, I plan to do a full audit of all my social media accounts—both personal and for my blog. I suspect I will be deleting some (e.g. Twitter and Threads), and will take some time to consider if I want to add any new ones.

    Curious…are you using Substack at all?

      No, I’ve not tried Substack. I’ve heard a lot about it. Am I write in that readers have to pay to read some blog posts on it?

        Yes, it seems most creators on Substack offer free content and an option to upgrade to a paid subscription. I am only using it to access free content so far, and I haven’t published anything there yet. I find it has a lot of thoughtful information and good discussion.

          The ‘good discussion’ in interesting, Michelle. Unfortunately, good proper engagement on WordPress seems to have dropped off. I may check Substack out.

            I find the same, Hugh. There’s about a dozen people who regularly read and comment on my posts but there has definitely been a drop in overall engagement.

    I have added the BlueSky button to my blog and my website. I’m happy with the atmosphere there and I am following you already. I do wish WordPress would add the BlueSky sharing option in WP reader. Thanks, Hugh!

      They only offer Facebook and Twitter sharing buttons in the Reader but there is an option to copy the post’s link and share it elsewhere.

    Great post, Hugh. I know we’re connected, but here’s how to find me on Bluesky. @dantion.bsky.social I’m being more careful about growing connections there than I was with Twitter, but I am certainly open to the bloggers that follow your blog.

      Likewise, I’m being careful who I follow, but another great feature with BlueSky is that you can block people easily so they never see your posts. Of course, they can re-register, but I’m vetting everyone that follows me. I’ve blocked lots of accounts, mainly spambots, but they seem easy to spot.
