October 17, 2023, prompt: Write a story about something shaggy in 99 words (no more, no less). It can be carpet, a hair-do, or some sort of critter. How can something shaggy steer the story? Go where the prompt leads! See ‘October 17: Story Challenge in 99-words‘ for more details.
Have You Heard Of Shaggy Pages? – by Hugh W. Roberts
I opened a charming bookstore called ‘Shaggy Pages’ in a quaint town.
It became a refuge for the LGBTQ+ community, where stories of love and acceptance filled the air.
My cosy shop, adorned with shaggy tapestries and shelves brimming with diverse tales, was a sanctuary for those seeking solace and connection. It was here that relationships bloomed, and hearts found belonging.
In the warm embrace of ‘Shaggy Pages,’ I wove together stories of love, courage, and pride, creating a tapestry of acceptance far beyond my shop’s walls.
‘Shaggy Pages’ – the place where everyone is welcome. Come on in.
Written for the 99-word flash fiction challenge hosted by Charli Mills at the Carrot Ranch.

This sounds like a great place to relax.
I’m glad you think so. Thanks.
This sounds like a great place to visit, Hugh.
Thanks, Dan.
This is great Hugh. Here is mine
Well Mrs. Krantz I am glad you took the time to stop by and see me. Oh, there’s nothing to worry about. Your little Woof-Woof is in the hands of Molly, our most experienced stylist. I’m sure you’ve seen the awards she’s accumulated.
It’s just that, when you said your dog was a little overdue for a haircut, we weren’t expecting so many years overdue. You must admit, you could no longer notice any of Woof-Woof’s doggie features when you brought her in.
It’s just that… Well, are you sure there was actually a dog under all that fur?
That’s a great piece of flash fiction, Mr Ohh’s. Made me laugh.
Sounds like the hub of the community, just what a bookshop should be.
I agree, Cathy. Welcome to Shaggy Pages.
Thank you :)
I’ll swing by, Hugh, to enjoy a good book, a hot chocolate, and some wonderful connections. Actually, I might never leave!
Not wanting to never leave is something every shop likes to hear, Liesbet. And I can guarantee that the hot chocolate is the best in town.
It reminds me of what bookstores are supposed to be. What was that old movie with Meg Ryan? Ah, “You’ve Got Mail.” That’s the picture I get in my mind.
That’s not a movie I think I have seen, Marsha. But I have heard of it. I’ll have to check it out.
I haven’t seen it either, but as I was thumbing through the internet looking for rules about Vampires parenting, I found it. :)
I would visit there often! Love the name.
Thank you. And welcome to Shaggy Pages.
Book stores should be the center of a community I think! The more welcoming the better. I’d love to drop by Shaggy Pages!
You’d have a lovely welcome at Shaggy Pages. We certainly need sometime to plug the gap that seems to have opened up in the centre of communities.
Sounds like a wonderful place to relax and browse for books 🌞
I’m glad you think so. Please, do come in.
In a place bereft of bookstores, this sounds great!
I’m glad you think so. Come on in.
Will do when I am in the neighborhood!
Love it. Do you serve coffee too?
Oh, yes. And tea, hot chocolate and something bubbly for those that want it.
I’m in 😁
it sounds like a wonderful place
Thank you. Please do come in.
Neat take on the prompt! Sounds like a cozy place 🙂
Thanks, Nicole. I wanted to step out of the box for this one.
What a wonderful sounding bookshop!
I’d come, Hugh!
Good. I’m glad you’d come in, Ritu. I need to make Shaggy Pages into a franchise.
Sounds like a plan! I’d head up a Kent one for you!
You’re hired.
I love the sound of your bookstore Hugh! I would definitely pop in!
Thank you, Carol anne. Please do pop in. Everyone is welcome at ‘Shaggy Pages.’
