I’ve been busy with creatures like that these past few weeks. Haven’t posted at all. I finally managed to finish a post I’ve been working on since last week.
But in all honesty, that looks like my dog Katie with a B*tch face, LOL!~
A dog has been mentioned a few times. I’m loving all the different answers to the question I asked.
To me this looks almost like a bear mixed with an owl.
That’s the first time an owl has been mentioned, Wayne. But glad you could see it. I do see the bear.
Haha maybe it’s just me.
the legendary Dungeon and Dragon owlbear
Several people have seen an owl and a bear in that creature. They’re popular choices.
A lion!
Do you think so? I’m not sure, but it may have some lion features in it.
Just my first thought!
Here’s my entry:
Thank you.
A dog standing on hind legs to get something from its’ human?
That’s a different take from all the others. I did think it was a dog at first, but once I got up close to take the picture, I changed my mind.
Hey, dude, tell me about the past…🤓
Well, where do I begin…?
I can see bits of everything … I first saw a lion … but looking at its face, I can see the Griffin. But I love Dragons, so that’s my vote too.
I hope you’re OK down in Wales, did I see the flooding has caused power cuts? Or was that old news as I can’t see anything now on the Beeb
I think this stone creature has many creature features, Brenda.
Yes, all is well here in Wales despite the downpours. I think Southwest England has had it far worse. The ground is already so wet. If it’s a wet winter, I think there will be lots of flooding.
Thats true. Lots of travel disruption here … took me an extra hour to get home last night … trains cancelled, delayed and roads really busy for the bus.
A sign of the autumn and upcoming winter, Brenda.
Very true. Have a good Thursday, Hugh
Hi Hugh, I adore your photo for this week.
Here is my entry :D

Thanks, Cee. I’m glad you like the little stone-faced statue I found on my travels.
Such a cute gargoyle holding on tight to that shield.
Thank you. Not everyone thinks he/she is cute, but I’m glad you do.
Oh I love stone gargoyles which don’t have to be the typical demonic monkey looking creepers. Gargoyles are guardians. This has the look of a bear, which is a guardian often found in native American totem poles. That’s my vote, Hugh.
PS. Our move went somewhat smoothly. I’ll report more on my blog soon, but my parents love their new home and excited to start their new life. We’re still in AZ for a few more days then it’s homeward bound.
When I first saw this stone statue, I thought it was a bear, too, Terri. So you could be right. And I love the connection to native American totem poles and it being some kind of guardian. It’s holding a coat-of-arms, which some families in the UK have. So, being a guardian also makes sense. And I did find this statue in the gardens of a huge stately home.
Glad the move has gone well. I look forward to reading all about it. Have a great trip back home.
Is it a Griffin?
It could well be a griffin, Colleen. Is that a mythical creature?
It could be… a griffin is part eagle and part lion: https://mythology.net/mythical-creatures/griffin/
I thought so. Thanks, Colleen.
You’re welcome, Hugh. It must be a dragon. That makes sense.
Yes I think Griffin.
That seems a popular choice.
Looks a bit dragon-ish, Hugh
A few others agree with that, Cathy. It’s some coat-of-arms, and dragons do appear on them.
Ah, I see. Always very interesting.
I’m saying a dragon Then again I really like dragons 🤣😎🙃
Another vote for a dragon. I like that a lot.
Do you know, or are you guessing too? 🤣😎🙃
I’m guessing, too. When I first saw it, I thought it was a bear.
I think it’s a kindly dragon from its face!
Being welsh, I like that idea, Noelle. Dragons are very popular in Wales.
Maybe because of the shield I thought of George and the Dragon!
It’s a cool creature! A prehistoric dog? :)
Now, that’s a thought. Were dogs around in prehistoric times?
Some version of them, probably. :)
That’s true. I wonder what they were like and if they enjoyed going for a walk and chasing a tennis ball?
I doubt they had tennis balls, Hugh. :)
Tennis balls made out of small rocks, then?
Looks like a lion to me. But then I have yet to have my coffee.
If you still say a lion after having your coffee, then a lion it must be, Maggie.
Whatever it is, it’s stoned!
Ha! True. Did not seem to be enjoying itself, though. But who knows what is going on in that head.
Those eyes oh my word. I have a feeling they can kill as well.

Do you mean turn whoever looks at it into stone? What a fate.
Yup Hugh you’ve got it. I will rather stay away from those eyes.
I’m with you on that, Esme.
