February 25 2021, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story using the word frozen. It can be descriptive, character focused, action driven. Go out onto the ice and find a frozen story. Go where the prompt leads!
New Home – by Hugh W. Roberts
The frozen wastes of space were no place anymore for the light pink sphere.
It had travelled for thousands of years, but the icy blue planet ahead looked the only hope it had of survival.
The glowing rays of a young star rising in the east sent the alien into a potential thaw and deep sleep on this new world.
Millions of years later, it awoke to find new owners’ of the planet had built a city on top of where it had rested.
“Welcome to Wuhan’, it recorded, as it began the fightback to reclaim its new home.

. So that’s how it all started! Love your clever flash.
Thank you, Anne. I’m having problems with sweet potatoes, though.
Oh! The real story surfaces. Clever writing, Hugh. Wished that alien had stayed asleep.
Don’t we all, Charli? I think this is a great case for the X-files.
You leave us wondering again my friend. Is it real or it it Memorex? LOL 🙂 xx
I added sci-fi tags, but is it?
Thanks, Debby.
I’m thinking yes. 🙂
Plausible. I like it, Hugh. Well done.
Thank you, Norah.
As reasonable an explanation as I’ve yet heard.
Maybe I should remove the sci-fi tags I added, then?
A beginning, or an ending? Great twist on the prompt, Hugh! Did you ever watch the series Battlestar Galactica on Sci-fi channel (not the old one from the 70s)? It ended the series in a mean twist and a look back in time. That’s all I’ll say in case you didn’t watch. But this ending reminds me of it 🙂
The story is still unfolding right in front of us, Terri. So who knows how it’s going to end?
I wasn’t aware that Battlestar Galactica had been remade. That twist sounds awsome. I’ll have to find out if the series is available in the UK.
Oh! My this is so dastardly clever Hugh 💜💜
Thank you, Willow. I’m glad you think so.
I do Hugh 💜💜
Aha? That’s where it really came from. Thanks for clarifying this nasty occurrence, Hugh!
Although I’ve tagged this story as science-fiction, I do wonder if it actually is, Liesbet.
Oh!!! What a great take, Hugh, and the typical Hugh twist in the end…. lol
Couldn’t resist another twist, Erika. This challenge was specially made for one.
Oh, yes! It calls for a twist indeed!
Oh no! Another twisty twist. Love it.
Thank you, Jan.
Any story that begins as lyrically as “the frozen wastes of space” has my undivided attention! Well done!
Thank you, Donna. I wanted to think out of the box with the keyword we had to use for this challenge. I know it’s been used before, so maybe I only got halfway out of that box.
Love it! And, yikes!
Thank you so much, Janis.
I love that, very clever!
Thank you, Janet. As soon as I saw the prompt, I saw a sign saying Wuhan city.
