Reblog: An Interview With Hugh Roberts

This is a new series to my blog where I’ll be sharing blog posts from other bloggers which feature myself.

To kick this new series off, I’m sharing an interview I had with author, writer and blogger Esther Chilton.

Thank You, And Goodbye For Now

Time has told me that now is the perfect opportunity for a blogging break. It’s not something I often do but is something I highly recommend every blogger does.

A blogging break is not only good for the body, but it helps refresh the mind. It also helps me to clear away the clutter that builds up in my head. I always compare it to clearing out the clutter that builds up on the hard-drive of a computer. Clear it away, and your computer runs faster again.

With another Bloggers Bash behind me, I’ve got a lot of other stuff I’d like to get my teeth into. What is this stuff? Well, that’s something I’m going to keep to myself for now, but part of my break will be spent taking a holiday before the schools in the UK break for the summer holidays.

What does ‘Hugh’s Blogging Break’ mean?

I will continue to respond to any comments left on previous posts (providing they relate to the post), but I won’t be publishing any new blog posts while I’m away. As somebody who believes in the definition that ‘blogging break’ means a complete break from blogging (apart from responding to comments), I won’t be visiting any of the blogs I follow either. In fact, I’ll be switching off email notifications of new posts from WordPress.

That may sound rather harsh, but it’s what works best for me.

Will I miss you?

Of course, I will, but a Time Traveller has got to do what Time tells him/her to do. However, this gives me the perfect opportunity to thank you all for reading my posts, leaving comments, and supporting me by reblogging and sharing my posts across social media.

Something that was mentioned as one of the best things about blogging, at the recent Bloggers Bash, is its community. I completely agree with that because, without its community, blogging would be so different for many of us.

I’ll also be editing the video of this year’s Bloggers Bash, and will publish it upon my return.

When Will I Be back?

I plan to return to the world of blogging by the end of July (hopefully, with lots of new ideas and news). I will, of course, let you know if I have to extend the date of my break.

As the publication of this post officially marks the beginning of my blogging break, I have closed comments off here.

Looking for some blogging tips while I’m away?

You can continue to read my blogging tips posts by clicking on the ‘Blogging Tips’ and/or ‘Gutenberg – How To’ buttons on the menu bar of my blog.

Once again, thank you for all your support. See you all again soon.

#1000Speak A Smiley for my Friend Hugh. A Guest Post by @RonovanWrites

No, don’t worry. You’re in the right place. We’re without Hugh for a few days and he thought it would be a good time for me to hop on over and do a guest post. I’ve scaled back for the week on RonovanWrites so it worked out just right. Right?

Danger Danger

Of course Hugh didn’t give me any ideas about what to write or any restrictions. You pick which of those two might be the most dangerous and once we finish today you can see if you made the right choice. Personally? I have no idea yet. I’m just typing whatever comes to mind at this point. And that is 100% serious.

What is Hugh?

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of writing something for Hugh’s blog is the word Friend. Where do I go from there? I think of our friendship and how we are an odd couple, as I call it. I am what one might call a Super Christian, or was so before an accident in my home confined me to my home. I look at that as being odd in my relationship with Hugh because people have an idea of what a Christian is. Why? Because there are some vocal people out there spreading their Church Traditions rather than the Jesus Traditions and Truths.

Hugh would never broach this subject here, but I’m not Hugh. And Hugh is not here to say “Now, Ron, don’t do that. I don’t want you getting any more hate mail than you already receive. Let’s have some tea and Oreos and watch Mama Mia again.” Hey, don’t judge what Hugh and I do with Skype.

Hugh is a gift. God put him here on this earth for a purpose. When Hugh began to blog I believe his purpose began to shine and be fulfilled. Just as people from every walk of life visit my blog and think I am not a bad guy and are okay with me expressing what I believe in so to do people feel the same about Hugh.

But with Hugh it’s a little different. People truly love Hugh. Hugh is about the most humble and genuinely loving people I’ve ever met. Instead of going out to spend money on anniversary gifts he donated $100 to our Friend Kate’s elderly parents who lost their home and all their memories and everything in a house fire. The man knows how to love. An ocean away and he gave.

The Odd Couple

There are people out there who claim to be something yet will hate Hugh because of his lifestyle, because of who he loves. Well, hate me then. I love Hugh. Hugh is an amazing man. I think if I lived in England he would make a great roommate. I would need someone to keep the place from growing fungus. Yes, he would be Felix and I would be Oscar. I doubt anyone saw it the other way around.

As a Christian I follow Christ. When you read the words of Christ you find nowhere does he say loving another human being is wrong. You know, the truth is, sex outside of marriage is what the Bible says is wrong. Any stone casters out there? Some will ask me do I think homosexuality is wrong. I thought I would go ahead and speak to that now.

God created us as man and woman. Then things happened. People became people and all of us are who we are and God loves each and every one of us. Do I understand homosexuality? No. By that I mean I don’t see how I would pick Brad Pitt over Angelina. Just not happening. Nope. Uh Uh. No Iron Man over the Black Widow either. (Let me contemplate for a moment or 10.) I swear the Black Widow is like wow. (Give me another 5 minutes.)

Okay, back to Hugh. As a friend you won’t find anyone better. He’s always there when you need him, unless it’s time for dinner. I’ve been chatting and he says “Sorry, Ron, dinner time.” and he is gone. Food comes first. He is a man after all. Food. I just ate a Dove’s chocolate heart. Don’t judge me. It was my last one from Valentine’s Day. It is so good. I even wrote a Confessions post about it. I just didn’t say it was about chocolate. The comments give me the impression chocolate did not come to the mind of the readers.

The Judgers. All of us.

People judge. Christians judge. Non Christians judge. But we aren’t to judge. I look at Hugh and see Hugh, a nice man with a kind heart. That’s all I see. Most of the time that is it. Sure there are times I think, “Hugh’s gay.” but those are normally times when he is reviewing a Gay Romance for my Lit World Interviews site. I’m an odd Christian in that I am  a Christ Follower and not a Church Traditions Follower. You can apply that to pretty much any faith or any other system of belief out there. It is very difficult to follow the truth that you believe without it being contaminated by outside influences. But you can do it.

One way to do it is to keep your friends, like Hugh, in mind. My blog is known by all of the people I know in my local community on facebook, all the way back to my grade school friends and family. Anyone can read anything I post. I openly call Hugh my friend, my best pal on the internet, which in truth translates to my best pal in life. (I don’t get out much.) As a Deacon in a Southern Baptist Church actually a former Chairman of Deacons, a former Sunday School Director, and a former Youth Pastor I have no problem saying Hugh is my friend.

Some are probably shocked by that Southern Baptist confession. It’s a place I hang my hat and is the closest to many of the things I believe in. Not every one of the things, but many. And you would be surprised at how the church I attend would be if Hugh walked in the door one day. He would be escorted to the front pew and have everyone shake his hand and he would be invited to just about every Sunday School class for the next Sunday and there is a good chance he would be taken to lunch by someone.

A young, contemporary church? Most of our members are probably over 60 years of age.

Hugh Is Loved

Hugh is loved. Not just by me but by probably every member of the WordPress family who has come across his path.

If you are a Hater, click here and leave a comment for me.

If you are reading this and have made it this far, please leave a comment, even if it is just a smiley face, if you’ve had a positive encounter with Hugh. Give him a surprise when he comes back after his few days away.

Leave a Smiley for Hugh. Spread the word. Share the post. And Remember to Leave That SMILEY!
