August 29, 2023, prompt: Write a story about a fiesta in 99 words (no more, no less). It can be any festival, celebration, or use of the word. Is it food-related or an event? Is it an object or a shout-out? Who is involved and why? What happens? Go where the prompt leads! See ‘August 29: Story Challenge in 99-words‘ for more details.

Pride And Prejudices – by Hugh W. Roberts

Amid the vibrant fiesta in our town that once silenced love’s diversity, Johnny and I dared to be ourselves.

No longer afraid, we clasped hands and weaved through the colourful crowds of acceptance.

Together, we two young men danced under the moonlit sky while rainbow butterflies fluttered around us.

This fiesta was more than just a celebration; it was a declaration of our love over prejudice.

Embraced by cheers and applause, we finally kissed, the world around us fading to insignificance.

Our love was a beacon at that moment, guiding others towards acceptance and a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.

I do hope so, Norah. Although there is still a long way to go.

        Indeed there is, Hugh.

I have a hard time understanding why some people can’t see the joy in love of all shapes, sizes, and flavors. Nicely done.

    1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

Same here, Janis. Rather than get on with their own lives, it seems some people want to vent their negativity on others simply because those people are different.

Hopefully a window to the not so distant future.

      I do hope so, Cathy.

Such a beautiful story about simply being and living that being. There is so much joy and lightness in your words. Very uplifting!!

I’m glad you thought this flash fiction piece was uplifting, Erika. I need to write more with uplifting endings instead of all the doom and gloom ones I usually write. But, as you know, I enjoy shocking the reader with my endings.

To be honest, you are good in both, so just keep writing what has to be written. I like it all 😊

Sorry I didn’t write more. I’m glad they had the chance to be themselves. It’s sad and frustrating that society can be too quick to judge.

        1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

It is, isn’t it? Even today, some people concentrate more on hate towards people because they are different than to enjoy life and be happy, positive and kind towards others. It’s much easier and less stressful to be kind.

          1. Brenda avatar

I agree. It seems sometimes people use their hostility to feed their negative emotions like a comfort blanket. It says so much about their fears and insecurities.

            1. Hugh W. Roberts avatar

I agree, Brenda. They live the same lives as trolls.

Oh, thats very true, now you mention it.
