For those of you who haven’t seen it, here is what I consider one of the highlights (if not the highlight) of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, celebrated around the world from 2nd – 5th July 2022.
What do you think about the Paddington and Queen having tea video? Did you celebrate or see any of the jubilee celebrations?
Let me know if you’re not able to play the video so I can find another one to add to this post.

This is the BEST video Hugh! I was visiting with my 2 year old grandson when it came out and he was very taken with it. – so much so if we wanted him to sit still/calm down we put the video on and he laughed uproariously at the same bits each time and looked at me for confirmation I was laughing too. It was a lovely moment of bonding time with Granny! The best bit of the celebrations in my opinion :).
I think this was the best-kept secret of the whole jubilee celebrations, Debbie. What a surprise when the clip was aired on our television screens. My great-niece always talks about it, especially when she sees me spreading marmalade on my toast. And she often asks me if I know that the Queen keeps a marmalade sandwich in her handbag.
Brilliant vid Hugh. Thanks for sharing. ❤
You’re welcome.
Oh that is gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing.
You’re welcome.
This was definitely a highlight!
I agree.
Thank you for sharing! A British friend was just telling me about this yesterday and I was planning to look it up. She certainly does have her charming moments.
You’re welcome, Sarah. I’m glad to have shared the clip with you all. It was one of the highlights of the recent Jubilee celebrations.
That was absolutely brilliant. I loved the James Bond skit she did at the 2012 Olympic Games but this topped it, I’ve always wondered what she keeps in that handbag. Now we know.
Who would have known that she keeps a marmalade sandwich in her handbag, Michelle? I wonder what else is kept in there?
I wonder, too. Maybe a couple of the crown jewels and a wee flask of gin. 😂
This was definitely one of the best moments along with the antics of Louis. I loved the shot we had of him waving excitedly from the carriage and his sister having to hold him back. Priceless
I agree; Charlotte and especially Louis were some of the main highlights of the jubilee celebrations. Seeing them out and about on such a momentous occasion was good.
That was cute, Hugh. Thanks for sharing. Otherwise I wouldn’t have seen anything of the jubilee!
I’m glad the clip played for you, Liesbet. YouTube clips don’t always play in all parts of the world. It’s always frustrating when a reader tells me they get a message saying ‘This video can not be played in the country you are viewing it from.’
I loved the video Hugh, it set the great tone for the concert which I loved. I have missed all the celebrations, hubby and I have both had Covid since last Thursday.
Plenty was planned but just had to cancel!
The highlight of the concert were Queen with Adam Lambert and the beautiful and Amazing Sam Ryder just wish we’d had more from him ..
The guy can sing! And he’s so nice
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear you and your husband have Covid, Willow. Is it the first time you’ve had it?
I had the best seat in the house to watch all the jubilee celebrations – in a nice comfy armchair in my house. I had great views and heard everything. Although Sam Ryder also gets my vote, the Paddington Bear clip was the highlight for me.
Get well soon.
Hi Hugh yes it’s the first time for me, we think hubby had it back at the end of 2019/2020 before it had a name. It’s not nice even though we’ve been triple vaccinated. Yes I had one of very best seats in the house too in the living room too.
Thank you Hugh we are doing our best.
Stay well ….do you think Paddington might come to my house for tea when we are better. 💜💜💜
He’s probably a very busy bear right now, Willow. But who knows, he may pop by, especially if marmalade sandwiches are on offer.
Get well soon.
Thank you Hugh and Marmalade sandwiches are always on the menu here! 🌈🙂🙂
I loved this video! It really shows the Queen’s softer and more human side. Very nostalgic to have one of Britain’s best loved bears.
Paddington Bear was certainly a bit hit, Wayne. I expect there is already a lot of demand for Paddington Bear toys.
Yes so true!!!
Hugh, thanks for sharing this. I hadn’t seen it before. How fun. It seems like the entire celebration was spectacular. I’ve seen lots of clips of the children, who seem to have quite the little personalities.
It was such a surprise when they aired the clip on TV on Saturday evening, Suzanne. How they kept it such a secret, I have no idea.
It was a wonderful long weekend of celebrations, and some of the young royals were the stars.
How fun – thank you for sharing this video Hugh. I am surprised it did not make Twitter (though I usually follow Twitter trending posts, I might have missed it). As a Canadian, transplanted to the U.S. these past nearly 56 years, but not an American citizen, I enjoyed watching a lot of the pomp and circumstance associated with the Jubilee. I am sorry that the Queen was feeling poorly and could not partake in a lot of the festivities. This is the sweetest video. I am an arctophile and stopped my teddy bear collection at 52 … a small house and those furry friends were encroaching everywhere. I do not have a Paddington Bear, so maybe it is an excuse to bend the rules a bit and get one now?
You’re welcome, Linda. I’m glad you enjoyed the video clip. It was terrific and a well-kept secret until airing on our TV screens last Saturday evening.
It was a fantastic long weekend of celebrations, something I’ll probably never witness again in my lifetime. But I’m delighted to have now been part of a silver, golden, diamond and platinum jubilee. Each one was as good as the others.
I think Paddington Bear will be very popular for the rest of the year, especially as a Christmas present this year. My partner has been buying me a Harrods dated teddy bear every Christmas since the first year we met. Like the bear collection you had, they are gradually taking over the house, so some now live in a rather large wardrobe in the guest bedroom.
You were lucky to be right there for the celebrations Hugh – what a wonderful event and your witnessing the others as well. For me, once a Canadian, always a Canadian and being 66 years old, I am old enough to remember when we sang “God save the Queen” every morning in school and flew the Union Jack on every flagpole.
I’m sorry the Queen couldn’t participate in more events. I do hope she will make it to the 75th Jubilee. I soaked up a lot of the festivities that I saw on Twitter – how fabulous.
Those teddy bears quickly encroach on every free space, but who can resist their faces and I like that your partner has bought you a Harrods dated teddy bear every year since you first met. Most of my bear collection came from my late mother who bought one for various occasions. When I was a child I was allergic to the stuffing in stuffed animals, so I couldn’t play with them, so years later my mom bought me a bear saying “you’ve been on allergy shots for years – I’ll buy you the bear you never got to enjoy.” She later would say perhaps it was a mistake as bears overtook our small home. 🙂
The Queen’s health is certainly a cause for concern, but it is good to see her deligating to other family members, Linda. She deserves a good rest.
I’m sure there will be another bear to the collection this Christmas. I can’t remember the year, but Harrods started naming the bears. I was delighted when they called the Christmas 2016 bear after me.
I see Duchess Kate has been tasked with some of the Queen’s events she attended. I like Hugh very much! How special to have a bear named after you. 🙂 He’s a sweet-looking bear too. Thank you for sending me the pictures Hugh. P.S. – I did find a Paddington Bear, complete with genuine Wellies on Amazon. I order it for myself for as a remembrance of the Queen’s Jubilee – it has international shipping. I’m sure you’re right that this is going to be a big hit for the holidays.
I did catch this video and you are right – it’s irresistible! I’m sure she was probably happy when all the festivities were over – for a lady her age they must have been exhausting.
I can only imagine how exhausted she must have been by the end of all the celebrations. I’m so pleased she made the appearance at the end of the pageant on Sunday, though.
A friend posted this on Facebook and I rather enjoyed it. It is the only part of the Jubilee stuff I’ve seen: I respect the Queen but don’t like these big shindigs.
It was a fabulous long weekend of celebrations, Clive. I probably won’t witness another one quite like it during my lifetime.
I loved this clip, and I really enjoyed the pageant, especially with its real carnival feel… the decade buses were great! 🙂
The pageant was terrific, and I agree with you about the decade buses. I loved them, especially seeing Valerie Singleton on the 60s bus.
I’ve watched this three times, I like it so much. The Queen has a great sense of humor. Wish she could go on and on and on….
I can’t help but keep watching it. It never fails to make me smile.
I’ve heard that the Queen has an excellent sense of humour. I don’t think she thought twice when asked to appear in the clip.
So far I love the youtube still image and what it conveys, Hugh. It must be so special and exciting for the UK to experience and celebrate the platinum jubilee, especially during these uncertain times. I had to hop over to my mobile to view the clip. How refreshing and so clever, thanks for sharing. A wonderful memory for all ages.
It was a fabulous 4-day weekend full of celebrations, laughter, smiles and happy times, Terri. It bought the whole country together, despite our government now seemingly falling apart. But I won’t go there because I don’t want to leave cloud 9 yet.
OMG, that video is so cute. It touched me. The Queen is really cool!
I’m told she has a fabulous sense of humour, Erika. Now we all can see why.
That is absolutely proved. You can see the mischievousness in their eyes. It must have been hard for her to only let this one dance now and then due to her “job”. A great and strong woman!
Hear-hear.
It was a fabulous event but I agree, Hugh, this was definitely a highlight and one that won’t be forgotten.
I agree, Cathy. The whole thing was wonderful and a huge success.
I think this was just lovely and humanizies the Queen for all!
I agree. It was the best part of the whole jubilee celebrations (apart from the trifle I made).
Thanks you for sharing. I laugh quite heartily. Looks like a Peter Jackson production.
I’ve no idea who made the clip, Danny, but I know that they made many people laugh and smile who have watched it.
I have no idea either, but if you told me PJ made it, I would not be surprised.
This was by far my favourite part of the celebrations. I watched most of the events and enjoyed them very much. Such a remarkable achievement. And I can’t believe I have lived to see it!
I don’t think I’ll experience anything like the recent jubilee celebrations in my remaining lifetime, Darlene. It was a fantastic event that just kept getting better and better.
Okay, this is precious! Did she actually DO this? I mean, I imagine she would have wanted to because I hear she has such a delightful sense of humor. In any case, thank you for sharing, as no, I had not seen this.
Oh, I’m glad you’ve confirmed that not everyone will have seen this, Annette, so I’m delighted to have bought it to you.
Yes, I believe she actually did it. I’ve never met the Queen, but I often hear people who have met her say that she has a wonderful sense of humour. The clip was a well-kept secret that I believe not even many of her close family knew about.
I saw it a couple of times on our news, Hugh. Very cute.
It was so unexpected, Norah. Even after the James Bond clip from the London 2012 Olympics, I don’t think anyone expected to see Paddington having tea with the Queen.
It was very cute. 🙂
