In the comments section of the post, I challenged James from the blog PerfectManifesto.com to write a post outlining why he unfollows blogs.

Now I’m challenging you to write a post outlining why you unfollow blogs.

The 10 reasons on our post may already have similar reasons as others, but truth is, ‘unfollow’ anywhere is not a popular topic. It is not just bloggers, blog writers, or blog owners – no one wants to be unfollowed.
Your challenge led me through a spring-leaning rabbit hole.

Yes, I agree, nobody wants unfollowers, but it’s something that happens all the time. Nobody should ever concern themselves that they should not unfollow somebody’s blog or social media account because they may lose a follower themselves. It happens, and I believe it’s more important to unfollow and stop reading content that no longer interests us than to follow somebody just to not lose a follower. When I unfollowed hundreds of blogs that no longer interested me, not only did I feel much better about it, but I gained a lot of time I had been losing on reading content that did not interest me. It was a win-win situation.
Good on you Hugh, this post and the post James wrote was really interesting. I’ve unfollowed a few blogs over the years but I don’t know whether I could articulate why I did so – isn’t that strange? I have certain things I don’t ‘like’ about blogs and posts, my pet peeves so to speak, but it is a different story when it comes to actually following through and ‘unfollowing’. Maybe I don’t want to offend anyone which is a stupid reason – I said it so that you didn’t have to! I applaud your efforts in offering this challenge and your generous donations to the Ukraine cause.
When you unfollow a WordPress blog, no notification is sent to the blogger you’ve unfollowed, Debbie. The only way they’d know you’ve unfollowed is from the sudden lack of comments (and maybe likes), but I don’t think many bloggers worry about it anyway. We all have ‘unfollowers’ and yet we carry on blogging. And if anyone does tackle you about it, then maybe it was right that you unfollowed their blog because of the reasons you did so.
Thank you for also reading James’s post and leaving him a comment. He went into a lot more detail than I did, and I applaud his openness and getting straight to the point.

Thank you, Cindi. I wanted to give a subject challenge that I know would scare many bloggers off from writing. But it’s great to see that some have already proved me wrong.
Thanks Hugh for calling out my unfollow post – it’s been great reading people thoughts and comments on the subject and I was delighted to read some of the feedback on why people like my writing style!
I look forward to seeing what response you get to this – I’d be particularly interested if there are people who have never unfollowed blogs, I’d love to understand why.
And although I’ve not donated, to support the spirit of getting people to open up about unfollowing (and of course support the Ukrainian people) I will give a donation.
You’re welcome, James. Your post was definitely worth a share, given that hardly anybody wants to talk about unfollowing blogs. It still seems to be a taboo subject that most bloggers shy away from writing about, although I have had two responses so far from Annette and Eileen, who have come to my rescue.
To be honest, I don’t expect to get many (if any) more. As I look around the blogging community, drawbridges have gone up, and nobody seems to be at home. However, I’ve left the challenge open until the end of May, so we shall see how many are tempted to write about a subject hardly anybody in the blogging world will talk about.
I wonder how many would have participated had the challenge been why we follow blogs?

You are full of good ideas, Hugh! A very different challenge/approach than when you were donating to the animal shelter! I’ll be sure to check out James’ post.

I could tell you the 10 reasons in the comments… lol. I will see if I can make it to write a post but I hope the maximum amount will be reached anyway. Just FYI: I already donated CHF 150 to UNESCO for Ukraine. So, I hope that would make it up a bit, in case I cannot make it on time.

Interesting Hugh, I don’t think I have enough words to write an actual post on this. I did read James’ post and he had some great points. I generally unfollow if a person hasn’t written anything in six months. That’s about it. I have no way of knowing who unfollows me! I should unfollow some though as they are boring and not relevant to me.
Alison, the post can be as short or as long as you like. You’ve mentioned a few reasons in your comment. But I’ll leave it up to you to decide. I don’t want to force anyone to write a post about this subject.
James bought up a lot of great points in his post – many I can relate to.
