I’m taking the festive and holiday season’s opportunity to take a semi-break from the blogging world.
Why a semi-blogging break?
As a blogger who dislikes not responding to comments, I will be answering comments left on any of my blog posts or pages over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Will I be visiting blogs, reading posts and leaving comments?
Probably not. In the seven years I’ve been blogging, I’ve always found this time of year to be tranquil in the blogging world. It’s an excellent time to do some blog housekeeping and tidy up the blog.
When will my next blog post be published?
My monthly round-up post for December will be published on December 31st 2021.
My first post of 2022 is scheduled to be published on January 3rd 2022.
While I’m away
If you missed my blogging post, ‘Looking For Help With Blogging? Do You Have Any Questions About Blogging?‘ you can still leave questions for me by clicking here. All questions about blogging are welcome. And don’t forget to leave a link to your blog when leaving your questions.
Have you ever had a character you’ve made up actually help you out? I have a new blog post – How To Pull Yourself Out Of A Writing Hole With A Little Help From Your Characters – over on my column at the Carrot Ranch. Be careful what you write about because it could come true.
Don’t forget about Bloganuary

Happy 2022 to you Hugh, it’s already that time of the year for us down here :). Thanks for the link to Bloganuary, I hadn’t heard of that so have just signed up!
Looking forward to seeing what the new year brings us all!
Happy New Year, Debbie. Hope you had a fantastic Christmas. Wishing you all the best for 2022.
Happy New Year
Thank you. You, too.
Happy new year in advance Hugh…hope you come back from your semi break with a bang and lots of new ideas for future posts 💗💗
Thank you. I’m enjoying my semi-blogging break and have lots planned for my blog in 2022.
Happy New Year.
Thank you Hugh for all your great tips. Enjoy your break. You take your breaks like me, lol. No blog visits, but always will check in on comments. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up on Bloganuary, I will check it out. Happy New Year to you and yours. ❤
I’m glad they are helpful to so many of you, Debby. I’ve lots more planned for 2022.
Happy New Year to you.
P.S – I got the pingbacks the other day. Thanks so much for the mentions.
Oh fab Hugh! Of course I forgot, lol. Thanks for letting me know they work! Enjoy your New Year celebration and look forward to your return after your break. Hugs xx
I wish you that you get all the things that you want this Christmas and that it brings a lot of happiness to your home.
Thank you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Merry Christmas. Enjoy your holiday semi-break.

Check out News from Hugh!!
A very merry Christmas to you Hugh and wishing you a healthy and happy new year 🌲🍾🎅
Thank you, Alison. And the same to you. May you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Now how do you spot these things? Without you I’d not have heard about bloganuary… which goes to show we all need a Hugh. Which I suppose is preferable to the, probably apocryphal story about Maggie Thatcher when asked about the importance to her of Willie Whitelaw was recorded as saying ‘everyone needs a Willie’. Have a lovely break, and all the best to John and the (still) pups. What’s on your tree this year, I wonder?
I have my sources scattered all over the blogging world, so I get to hear a few things on the grapevine, Geoff. Hope you join us in Bloganuary.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and the family (including dog – of course). Enjoy the festivities, and hope we can catch up in person next year.
Now an in person catch up would be marvellous…
Enjoy your semi-blogging break, Hugh! And happy holidays to you and yours – the furry and human members of your household! Xxx
Thank you, Liesbet. Wishing Mark, Maya and you a very festive Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Enjoy yourselves, wherever you are. I hope there is plenty of sunshine and warm weather for you.
See you again in the New Year.
xx
Hi Hugh, I like how you’ve addressed your time away from your blog here. I think it’s so excellent to let people know what your plans are. I signed up for Bloganuary, too. So far I haven’t received a confirmation, so I may have done it wrong! Anyway, have a great holiday. We will see you in January. Actually, I’m taking my break then to travel back to CA for a week.
I always like to inform my readers if I decide on taking a break, Marsha. That way, I know many of them won’t worry if anything is wrong if they see no new posts being published. I tend to take a break from blogging at this time of the year anyway because it gets very quiet. It’s a great chance to clean up the blog, ready for a new year of blogging.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family, Marsha. Have a great time over the festive period.
I think I need to do that, too, Hugh. It is getting pretty quiet, and I do need some clean up. I generally spend my time doing other things that don’t involved a computer and then I come back to the same mess. That’s my problem right now! LOL. You should have done a cleanup post with tips of what sort of changes you make during a yearly overhaul. 🙂 Maybe we could collaborate on one for next year.
That sounds like a great idea, Marsha. I do most of my blog housekeeping between Christmas and the New Year.
I would love to know what you do. I’ve been making changes – some major, some minor all year. I think I’m down to tweaking, now. Maybe we can chat sometime by Zoom after the first of the year or during your down time.
During the New Year would be great. Merry Christmas, Marsha.
Sounds great, Hugh. Merry Christmas to you.🥰🥰🥰🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Hugh and a fantastic New Year!! 😀 😊
Thank you, and the same to you. Have a wonderful time during the festivities.
Happy Christmas to you both and the dogs have a wonderful time see you in the New Year.💜💜🎄🎄🎄🎄⛄⛄☃️☃️☃️💜💜
Thanks, Willow.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family too.
Thank you Hugh 💜
Same over here. The time is dedicated to my family and to things I want to get done and develop peacefully. Reading posts… maybe. Checking comments… from time to time.
So, enjoy the holidays and have a great change of the year, Hugh. Thanks for the priceless tips you gave us again this past year!
I always think this time of the year is perfect for a bit of relaxation and family time, Erika. I don’t want to miss any of it, hence my semi-break.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful festive time and a Happy New Year, Erika. Enjoy every moment.
I feel the same. The older I get the more important this becomes to me. Most of all the time with the kids since the already have their own live.
Thank you so much, Hugh, blessings and joy to all of you 💖

Help and advice always with Hugh
Thanks so much for the reblog, Judith.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and the family.
I’ve signed up to Bloganuary so that can only be useful, and you end the year as you have throughout it by helping bloggers. Thank you so much for all your help this year, have a calm and healthy Christmas and New Year Hugh. And hopefully an exciting one now and then!
Bloganuary is a great idea, Paul. I see something similar most months, but this is the first time WordPress is the host. I won’t be publishing every day, but the prompts may inspire me to do so. It’s the community I look forward to being a part of the most, especially if I can help.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Paul. Enjoy the festive season.
Merry Christmas Hugh and enjoy the break. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts this year and look forward to more in 2022.
Thank you, Michelle.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Enjoy your break, Hugh and have a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks, Cathy. Merry Christmas.
You have a productive couple of weeks planned, Hugh, during your break. I originally wanted to take a break because I thought we’d be traveling, but we are staying home. You are right about using this time to refresh the blog and some other internet housekeeping. I’m signed up for Bloganuary, too, and look forward to meeting new folks and posting a little more often. Thank you for your support of Sunday Stills and all your great advice for blogging. Wishing you all a marvelous Christmas and a safe start to the New Year!
I’ve always found this time of year quiet in the world of blogging, Terri. I’ve already started some of my blog housekeeping and hope to have a fresh and healthy-looking blog by the time 2022 arrives. It’s a great chance to catch up while it’s quiet.
Sunday Stills has gone from strength to strength. It’s so good to see all your hard work paying off and helping other bloggers feel a part of the blogging community. I know that many people who participate will be very thankful to you for hosting Sunday Stills.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Hans, you and your family. Have a wonderful Christmas. And thank you for all your support this year.
Aww, thank you for your kind compliments, Hugh! And to think I almost stopped blogging after a bout of depression in early 2018. Our blogging community is wonderful and a time of comfort and support during two plus years of pandemic. 🌲❤
Yes, it’s certainly a great place to be, especially during these last two years of the pandemic, Terri. I think it’s been a life-saver for many people, especially those stuck at home and alone. There may be thousands of miles between us all, but it’s like we all live in the same town.
Wishing you a Happy and Peaceful Christmas, Hugh, and best wishes for a great 2022. It’s not completely quiet here, you know – some of us are still going! 😊🎅
Oh, I know that some people are still blogging, Clive. But, as with other years, I’ve seen a considerable reduction in the number of posts being published as the days go by. I’ve also seen many others bloggers I follow saying they’re taking a break, some until mid-January. It always seems to happen at this time of the year. It’s always been an excellent time for me to do much-needed housekeeping of my blog.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too. Enjoy the festive period.
I’m one of them, but you’re right: there are fewer emails each day announcing new posts. Enjoy the break, and I’ll look forward to seeing your posts again soon 😊
Thanks, Clive. I look forward to reading your posts in 2022, too. See you next year.
Merry Christmas and Happy Yule, Hugh and John. Sending you lots of love this holiday season. ❤
Happy Christmas and best wishes to Ron and you for 2022, Colleen. ✨
Have a wonderful Christmas, Hugh. See you next year in blogland!
Thank you, Darlene. Yes, see you in 2022.
Happy Christmas to you and your family. 🎄
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year, lovely Hugh! 😍
And a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family, Ritu. Have a lovely festive time.
