Welcome back to Weekend Music Share; the place where everyone can share their favourite music.

When it comes to books and movies, we all have our favourite genres, don’t we? For me, it’s science fiction, closely followed by horror.
When it comes to music, I’m a big fan of anything from the 1980s, although my song choice this week was released just before the magic of the 1980s began.
Written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, ‘Spacer‘ tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a superhero who, when he blasts off into outer-space to battle aliens and keep us all safe, doesn’t realise he’s become a heartbreaker.
Sheila (Annie Chancel) is little known outside her native France, but this hit gave her a little bit of international stardom. The song performed best in Italy, where it peaked at number five.
This week share a favourite song or piece of music that is connected to a favourite genre of yours, or just share a favourite piece of music or song with us. Share a link to it in the comments, or link back to this post from your blog.
Feel free to use the ‘Weekend Music Share‘ banner in your post, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #WeekendMusicShare on social media so other participants can find your post.
My thanks to Erika Kind for the inspiration for this feature.

For some reason when I read your favorite genre, and watched the Spacer video, this sci-fi music video popped into my head. Cheers.
It’s not one I’ve seen or heard before but must have been spectacular for its time. For some reason (probably because it looked like it was underground) it reminded me of the roginal ‘The Time Machine’ movie.
I always like when you share music because it’s sometimes songs that I am not familiar with. those that are popular in Europe don’t always get the same air time here in the states. thank you.
That’s true about certain songs not being as popular on each side of the pond, George. It can be a number one over most of Europe, yet the same song may not even make the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I’m a huge fan of the 80s! And I know that one this time! I couldn’t pick a song from the 80’s, as there are so many great ones! I’ve even indoctrinated my children to the joys of the 80s…
I hope they’re enjoying the music you’ve introduced them to, Steve? My nephew and niece tell me that they think 80s music is too cheesy! 😲 But what do they know? 😀
Nothing. Clearly. 😀
I had not heard that song before Hugh! Fun 🙂

Thank you so much for joining us for #WeekendMusicShare again. Such a lovely song you have chosen for us this week.
Another new song for me, Hugh. It definitely has that eighties feel though.
It does, doesn’t it, Norah? An early sign of what was to come.
I really enjoyed the rhythm in that song. And as usual, I never heard it before. 🙂 x
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Debby. It was never a hit your side of the pond, so not surprised you’ve never heard it before.
xx
Thanks for bringing it to our attention. ❤
I don’t remember that song and still, it sounds a bit familiar. However, I like it and I agree totally. I love more or less everything produced in the 80s.
This one was released in 1979, but still has an 80s feel to it, Erika. I certainly see it as one of the first songs that went on to make the 1980s the best era for music.
Yes, I saw it. It is on the verge to the 80s with a bit disco touch from the 70s. Cool song!
The seventies were a great decade for music – until disco and punk spoiled everything! But the eighties did have a lot to commend them too, including my share for you, from 1984. My favourite genre is crime fiction so, following the theme, I give you this 😊 https://youtu.be/ZmcJCIHXlCg
I’ve never heard that Mike Oldfield song before, but it’s very catchy, Clive. The video is quite weird, but strangely has the feel of an eerie movie. It must have been the clown in the video that made me think that.
It was a rare thing for Mike Oldfield, released only as a single and not featured on an album, apart from later compilations. It didn’t make the top 50, so that’s why you probably hadn’t heard it before. The video is very eerie, and would probably have been considered too scary for children watching TOTP!
I thought so. I associate Mike Oldfield more with instrumental tunes such as Tubular Bells, an album I always enjoy listening too.
Some of the music videos from that era were scary. I’m surprised they got past people like Mary Whitehouse (back in those days).
He did quite a lot of vocal stuff too, usually with guest singers but also sang himself. Over more than 40 years he has produced a very diverse output. Plenty to explore beyond TB if you feel inclined. His cover of ABBA’s Arrival is a favourite of mine.
Thanks, Clive. I had no idea he had done so much.

Thanks so much for joining in.
Another one that I was unfamiliar with, Hugh. Thanks.
I’m pleased to have introduced you to it, John.
I remember this 🙂 Very catchy tune.
I agree, Cathy. Catchy, and one I always sing along to when I hear it being played.
Oh! Hugh I remember this one brilliant isn’t it. I love her accent 💜💜
Yes, I loved it all the way back then, and still do. Willow. I don’t remember the video, though.
A great song and tune 💜
I love me some romance… So here’s mine!
A classic, although, I hate to say, I’ve never seen the movie. 😱
Oh Hugh!!! How could you not!!!
I know. I’m more of a sci-fi and horror fan. 🧟♂️🚀
Of which I am so not a fan lol!!! I guess we’re even 😁
You can’t beat Roy the Orb for Romance 💜💜💜
True sis!!!
