Help A Blogger

Writer and author Debby Kaye has recently informed me that she is having problems reading my blog. Both the header and menu on my blog were sticking when she was scrolling through a post, meaning that she only had a four to five-inch space on her screen in which to read a blog post. Debby informed me that it’s something she’s encountered on a number of other blogs, too.

After various discussions and emails with the WordPress Happiness engineers, they asked me to add some coding to the CSS feed on my blog. I duly did this and waited while Debby tested everything out. Unfortunately, although the header of my blog was no longer sticking when scrolling, the menu still was! I went back to WordPress, who added some more coding to the CSS box, and was asked to try again.

Unfortunately, no luck! Debby told me that the menu on my blog still sticks when scrolling. WordPress assured me that, from their end, it was no longer happening and included a short video clip showing me my blog and what happened when scrolling. On the video, nothing was sticking, and I now find myself stuck in the middle of something I seem not able to find the solution for.

WordPress did come back with a solution, which I detail below, but I wanted to also ask you, my readers, what you see when scrolling up and down on my blog. This is what WordPress told me.

‘If some users can still see the menu stick, it is possible that they have the website cached on their end. Is there any chance that you can ask them to clear their browser cache to be sure? We have some instructions here:

I have checked in a few browsers, including Chrome on a laptop, and I do not see the menu sticking. The only remaining part that I do see when scrolling is the menu button, but not the rest of the menu, and it is not making the reading window any smaller.’

Here’s where I am asking for your help. When scrolling on my blog, what do you see? Does the header and menu on my blog stick, leaving you with very limited space to read my posts? Or, is everything working fine and you’re able to read my posts without any problems? Please leave me a comment and let me know. I’d really appreciate it if you would include the following information when leaving your comment.

  • What’s sticking? Is it the header and menu, just the header, just the menu, or neither?
  • Do you have enough space on your screen to read my posts if the header, menu, or both are sticking?
  • What device are you using to read my blog posts? – Desktop, laptop, tablet or phone?
  • What internet browser are you using? Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc?

Once I have enough information, I can then go back to WordPress with the results.

I’d be interested to know if anyone else has (or is) experienced the same problem and, if so, what they did to resolve it.

  1. I was only getting a few lines beneath the header until today…which made reading difficult… but assumed it was my end. Whatever you have done has made it much more readable.

  2. Hi Hugh. I have no trouble reading your blog. Here are my answers if it helps.
What’s sticking? Just the menu sticks, the post scrolls up under it as I read.
Do you have enough space on your screen to read my posts? Yes, no problem at all.
What device are you using to read my blog posts? Laptop
What internet browser are you using? Chrome

  3. It’s working fine on my end-Chrome user. I have been having issues with password resetting on other sites though (100 times on Facebook!!) so maybe it’s something to do with the new privacy measures?

    1. Somebody else mentioned the privacy measures, Jacquie. Sorry to hear about the problems you’re having with password resitting. I hope it gets sorted out for you. Thank you for coming back to me.

      1. And if I look.on my mobile casino mobile view no stick. If I switch to desktop view on it it does the same as the iPad but those 3 menu lines don’t affect my view of your posts in any way. Xx

        1. I just went on my desktop and inititally the menu stayed tehre as I scrolled but when I went up and down, it unstuck and there was no blocking of view. Chrome used there too.

        2. Tried my Tablet. The header scrolls and the full menu stays static! But still able to see post perfectly well. xx

  4. Hi Hugh,
No problem at my end either. The page scrolls correctly. I might recommend that Debby clear her content, cookies, etc. and reboot her computer. She had trouble with my new website for a day or two. To my knowledge, she hasn’t had the same problem since.

  5. Everything seems fine on my MacBook Air, Hugh. Their is a small gap on the far left of the screen, not sure if it should be there but everything seems fine. I wonder of that new EU Banner thing has something to do with it…

    1. Thanks for letting me know, John. Not sure about that small gap, but providing you have plenty of space to see and read my posts, then that’s good.

Debby informed me that the problem only recently started to happen after I did some updates to my blog. I’ve had the EU Banner there for a long time as it’s something everybody in Europe should display on their blog.

  6. I haven’t had any problems like this on yours or anyone else’s blog. All is scrolling down just fine. I use my desktop, and Firefox. Hope all gets straightened out soon. 🙂

  7. I’m on chrome and desktop PC and as I scroll, nothing is sticking. All good on this end. Today, I see my featured images aren’t translating to twitter. Hope your vacation is fun…so go forth and leisure!

    1. Thanks for letting me know, Terri. That’s great to hear.

Yes, there was also a problem with the Twitter handle not appearing on tweets when clicking on the Twitter share button earlier today. However, that problem now seems to have been fixed. I’ve just shared somebody else’s post by clicking on the Twitter sharing button, and their twitter handle came up.

It’s our last day of the vacation today. In fact, almost the last evening, but it’s been a great week. 😀
