Meet The Bloggers Who Attended The 2018 Bloggers Bash

What started as a flash of an idea at the first-ever Bloggers Bash back in August 2015, has now developed into an essential part of what has now become the Annual Bloggers Bash over the four years it has run. What am I talking about? Why the video of course.
#bloggersbash #bloggers #awards

In the following video, the bloggers who attended and who wanted to be filmed will introduce themselves and their blogs. You’ll find all the links to their blogs by clicking here. The video also covers part of what can only be described as another excellent, exciting and successful day. Warning – the video is just under 30 minutes long, so why not grab yourself a beverage, sit back, turn off your phone and social media, and enjoy meeting the bloggers who attended this year’s Bloggers Bash.

I’d like to thank everyone who appeared in the video for their time in helping me make the video possible. As you can imagine, there was a lot of networking and talking going on during the day and, not surprisingly, all the bloggers were far keener on wanting to speak to each other rather than have me shove a camera in their face!

  1. Hi Hugh! At last, I’ve got my post out and have linked to this one for anyone wanting to watch your wonderful video (and your post with all the winners of the writing competition). Like Norah, I will be back to watch it all. You’ve worked so hard and always do an amazing job, especially at getting those of us who try and escape! It was wonderful to see you again and have a really good natter. Thanks again Hugh for making this year’s BB a wonderful event for me and everyone else, always so friendly and welcoming 🙂 xxx

    1. Thanks so much for linking up to my posts, Sherri. The video seems to have gone down very well. It may have taken me 3 days to edit it, but I had great fun creating it. Thanks so much for being a part of it. Try and watch it in one go if you can. It’s just under 30 minutes long, so grab yourself a beverage, sit back, and enjoy.
It was great seeing you (and Mike) again. I’m so pleased we had time for a catchup. 😀 As usual, time seemed to fly pass us that day.

      1. My pleasure Hugh, perfect timing 🙂 I will sit back with a glass of wine – or bubbly, even better! – and enjoy at leisure, can’t wait! You’ve worked so hard on what I know will be a fantastic video. And yes, it really was so lovely to chat with you again. It already seems ages ago since the BB….time flies way too fast! Catch up soon Hugh! Take care and big hugs…. xxx

      2. Hi again Hugh, just wanted to pop back and say I’ve watched the video and I absolutely love it, you did a fantastic job. Thank you so much for putting it all together for everyone to enjoy, as much for those who couldn’t be there on the day as for those who could. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have lasting happy memories of a really lovely day. And another big hug coming your way 🙂 xxx

        1. Thank you, Sherrie. If it wasn’t for all you budding actors, I’d have no video to make. I have to thank you all for allowing me to record you all. I enjoyed the whole process, from the filming to the editing. I think it helps bring people who can’t be there, to be right there in spirit, anyway.
          Hugs to you.

  2. Really well put together Hugh. You do a great job with this! 👍 was so great to meet & chat to these bloggers & already looking forward to attending next year 😀👋

  3. Thanks for putting the video together, Hugh! I’m looking forward to meeting all the bloggers who attended, whenever I’m not so low on data and cell connections. We’re living on the road again for the next three weeks. Thirty minutes, you say… mmm, I’m going to need a house or library (with a headset) to watch. 🙂

    1. Oh yes, don’t use up all your data on the video, Liesbet. It’s not going anywhere, so will always be on my blog to watch. I hope you’ll enjoy meeting everyone once you get to watch it.

    1. Thanks, Colleen. I only wish I could get you all there and back home in a day. One day in the future, maybe that will be possible. I do hope you’ll be able to make it over one year. I had great fun making the video and asking the questions. 💛

  4. Hughhhhhhhhh, you did a fabulous job once again in charge of videos! Loved this video, I watched it all. I was thrilled beyond that my friends Christoph, Sherri, Deb Jay, Marje and YOU said hello to me. that really made me smile. I can only hope to make the next one! Thanks for all you do and sharing with us peasants who couldn’t make it there, LOL kidding. Huge hugs from me to you. Sharing!!! ❤ xoxo
Oh, P.S. not sure what's happened to your blog since you've made alterations, but the header takes up half the screen. leaving a mere 4-5 inches of space to read your blog on. Were you aware? ❤

    1. Thanks, Debby, and thanks for watching it all. I know how time is precious to all of us. I had to edit out a lot just to get the video under 30 minutes. I’ve learned a lot about video editing since I started filming these events. I’m enjoying it very much. I enjoyed asking the questions, and just about everyone was up for being filmed. It also helps that iMovies has become easier to use. For example, adding text to the video is now a lot easier to do.

Thanks so much for telling me how my blog is displaying. I wasn’t aware. I’ve been in touch with WordPress and they advised me to reduce the size of the font in the header from medium to small. I’ve now done that, so I hope it displays better. They did say that many people like the size of the header in the Hive theme (the one I’m using). I did check out how it was displaying on my desktop, iPad and iPhone, and on John’s computer, and it looked all OK, but I decided to reduce the size of the font anyway. Another reader told me that my blog now has the feel and look of a newspaper. I like the sound of that very much. Please do let me know if it has helped with the way my blog now displays. My only other option is to change themes.

      1. First, that’s exciting that you’re getting professional with your movie editing. And second, I noticed a few blogs with the same problem as yours, the header taking up the whole page when you land and the reading pane not very big once scrolling. I don’t think it’s a font issue, it’s the size of the header taking up half the page even when scrolling. I can’t see the whole post when scrolling, only about 10 lines at a time. Have you tried going to your page as a visitor without logging in? Or tried in incognito mode? I think your changes may have added a few lines to be seen, but not much difference with the header overhanging the body of text hogging much of the reading space. Hope I’ve helped. Just message back when you’ve re-tweaked and I’ll be happy to take another look. 🙂 ❤

        1. Hi Debby. Yes, I’ve had a look at my blog without being logged in, and the header isn’t showing as being big. I’ve taken a shot of it.

I’ve also had a look at John’s computer (he uses a MAC as well) and it displays the same as mine. Nobody else has mentioned it to me, so it looks as if I’m going to have to change the theme. It’s probably the theme that I have chosen that is doing this. I’m about to take a blogging break during June, so it’s something I’ll take a look at, but thanks for letting me know. I don’t like the thought of readers being put off because they can’t see much of my post on the preview screen. I’m guessing that in the previous themes I’ve used, the header wasn’t casing the same problem?

        2. You know me Hugh, always willing to help someone if I see something,. as I would hope the same from others. 🙂 I looked at your screenshot, the page appears smaller than it looks when I go there, but still, I can see the header is quite large. I’m sure it’s not just me. but many bloggers don’t bother mentioning problems, which is sad. Thank goodness for friends. ❤ I know my friend Colleen who operates the backdoor of our Sisters of the Fey blog has been struggling with theme and header issues this past week too. But no worries, I'm sure you will sort it out on your well deserved break! Enjoy every minute! I know you worked hard on the Bash and with blogging and an upcoming book, you need a time out! ❤ xx

        3. Hi Debby. I just checked out the Sisters of Fey blog and now see what you mean about the header. However, I’m able to scroll down to read the posts and rather like the layout. In fact, it’s what I do on most of the blogs I follow. I’ve spoken to WordPress about it again and they said that many readers don’t mind having to scroll down to read posts. However, they’ve also told me that the size of the header can be reduced by adding some code to the CSS on a blog. Now, that scared me because I’m no ‘coder’ but I’ve asked the WordPress blogging forum community for some help on how to do this. I’ll see what they come back and say. 😄 I won’t mess about with it before going away but will have a look when I get back. On the other hand, I may just change my theme again and choose one that does not have such a big header. Lots to think about. Thanks so much for telling me about this.

        4. Hi Hugh. Not sure when you last visited the Sisters of the Fey blog, but Colleen has been struggling with this same issue and seems to have found a happy medium. If you go back to that blog now, yes, you will first see that giant header, but as you scroll, the header disappears. On your blog as it looks now, the header comes along as you scroll. taking up a lot of the reading space.
I know it’s a pain and I’m with you on ‘no code for me’. Relax and don’t worry about it for now, but when you’re ready you may want to chat with Colleen, after so much frustration, she’s getting real good at this stuff LOL ❤

        5. Ahh, now I’m with you, Debby. 😀 Me, wait? I’m in the middle of a conversation with WordPress about it. They are altering the CSS on my blog to make the header not stick when scrolling. 😀 I’m just very glad that they are messing around with the CSS and not me. 🤪

        6. Yay! Ok, Awesome they are helping. Yes, glad you can now relax totally for your vacation time without worrying about that scary word ‘CSS’ lolllllll. 🙂 😉 xx

        7. Thanks for your message about the menu still sticking, Debby. I’ve been on to WordPress about it and they have spotted that whilst the header is not sticking, the menu is! I saw it on my brother-in-law’s iPad, too. WordPress are writing a code which can be added to the CSS so that the menu also won’t stick. In fact, they’ve told me that the code will prevent anything from sticking on my blog. Fingers crossed it’ll work. 😀

        8. Thanks, Debby. Fingers crossed, it should now be sorted. Can you let me know? I’m very grateful to you for bringing this to my attention. I’ve had the Happiness Engineers working on it for me all morning while I relax in Cornwall with creme teas and scones. 😀

        9. Oh yum, that sounds delightful! But I hate to burst your optimistic balloon, the menu is still sticking to the scroll as of yet. Don’t dwell on it, enjoy your lovely getaway. I will definitely keep you posted when I see the change. ❤

        10. Hi Debby, I’ve spoken with WordPress this morning and this is what they are telling me.

          ‘Hi there Hugh,

I’ve just checked the site and the menu isn’t sticking anymore. Here’s a quick video:

If some users can still see the menu stick, that could be some caching left on their browser and they’ll need to clear it.

Otherwise, please let us know and we’ll double check it.’

I watched their video and it wasn’t sticking, so I’m not sure what is happening. I have removed ‘poetry’ from my menu (as I write little if any poetry) so as to shrink it a little from 3 lines to 2 lines. That may also help.😀

        11. Well that’s weird! I use a chrome browser, and it’s still sticking 😦 I hope it’s just me, but many people don’t tend to comment on these things. Maybe you can take a poll on your next post who is seeing it. Maybe it will go away after the next WP update? Don’t mean to be a pest, just letting you know what I see. 🙂

    1. I think iMove has become easier to use over the years, Geoff. This year I discovered how easy it was to add some text to the film. I’m learning the art of video editing. Maybe, my next big move. 😀

  5. Finally watched it all in one go!
    Loved your video Hugh! 😍
It was a wonderful day and you’ve helped to create some precious memories 😍

  6. This is awesome Hugh! It is so nice to see everyone even if I couldn’t make it to the bash!

It looks like you all had an amazing time!! ❤

  7. It looked like fun! Many more bloggers were there in spirit if not in person, so thank you for the film. Good to see the Geoff and Sheri show and their shout outs to Charli and her Carrot Ranch.

    1. I believe many watched some of the day via ‘Facebook live’ as well. I captured a lot more of the day, but the video would have been far too long. Geoff and Sherie do their show for the video every year. It wouldn’t be the same without them.

  8. What a great idea. Awesome to “meet” everyone who was there and a special hello back to my lovely friend Deb who was there representing us Aussies. 🙂

    1. Yes, please do, Norah. It’s far better watching it the whole way through instead of little chunks. This year’s video is by far the longest, but I managed to edit it down to just under 30 minutes.
