It’s party time on Hugh’s music time machine this week. We’re also a day early because it’s Halloween! I always enjoy a party, especially when it’s Halloween and there’s plenty of treats on offer. 🎃 I hope you all have your Halloween costumes ready because you’ve not much time to change into them. Why? Because we’re only leaping forward one year from last week’s featured year, although we are about to enter a brand new decade.
Welcome to the year 1990. If you hear the doorbell ringing and the words “trick or treat” being shouted out, just tell whoever it is that you’re far too busy with Kylie.
Did you recognise my Halloween theme with this week’s song? Yes? It may not be a particularly scary song but it sure as heck would be on my Halloween playlist. Kylie always gets me dancing, but she also gave me one of my most frightening weeks when deciding which of her songs to feature. There were so many to choose from. I practically love them all and spent sleepless nights deciding which one to showcase.
Better The Devil You Know was written and produced by Stock, Aiken and Waterman. Yes, this is the third time I’ve mentioned the magical song-churning trio in this feature, but they were a huge success and just about took over the music world during the late 1980s and early part of the 1990s. Charting at number two in the United Kindom, the song had a mixed reaction with charting success around the world. It only managed to hit number one in Israel but, where it was released as a single, did peek inside the top 40 singles charts.
Do you have a favourite song that would be at the top of your Halloween playlist? Share a link to it in the comments.
Thank you to everyone who left a link to a favourite song in the comments section of last week’s post. And a big thank you to Marie who published a blog post about a favourite heart-breaking song.
Just before we leave 1990, you may like to witness some strange goings-on here in the Roberts’ household. Watch out for the unusual object that appears five minutes and twenty-three seconds into the video. If anyone knows what it is, then please do tell us in the comments.
Want to join me in building up your 51 favourite songs from the past? There’s not much time left, but you can still leave a link in the comments section below and showcase your next song.

Great song, Hugh! I have to agree with Judy that Thriller would be at the top of my Halloween list, at least Michael Jackson looked more human then! I think Colleen, the Fairy Queen, would agree that you have a fairy inhabiting your house! Fun stuff!!
Mr Jackson and his ‘Thriller’ song and video are a very popular choice, Terri. As for the ‘fairy in the house’, I couldn’t agree more. There have always been fairies in my house 😀 I just hope the one I captured on video is a good fairy. Something along the lines of this.
Great choice of song, and love that orb again in the video. Hope you had a spooktacular Halloween. My Halloween song will always be Thriller by M.J. ❤
Mr Jackson seems a popular choice, Debby. Yes, I had a very good Halloween. I managed not to give away all the chocolate 😎
xx
LOL Hugh. When we used to have houses and give away goodies, my hub would scoop handfuls to hide from me for himself. 🙂 Chocolate monster! 🙂 xx
LOL! Hugh, your video was brilliant! I loved it!! The orb is really interesting. Hmmm… It could be a fairy orb but it’s white. Could be something evil… which would make sense because of your *ahem* untimely death. LOL. Wow! ❤
Thanks, Colleen. The problem with that orb is that it keeps appearing every time I’m in that room and have the camera on the computer switched on. It just floats around and sits beside me for a while and then zooms off again. It’s very strange, as it only seems to appear in that room of the house. It never appears when I’m using the camera on my iPad or iPhone, although I have taken some photos of orbs with my iPhone (but not in the house).
Oh, that explains it then. It is a fairy. Absolutely! Interesting. Mine appear in green orbs. Are yours always white? I would say it is definitely benevolent if it appears to you in that room. I love it. You might be a male version of a fairy whisperer – its the kindness and compassion they are drawn to. ❤ You certainly are that and more!
Yes, it’s always white, Colleen. I’ve only seen the one. I’ve never seen it appear with another orb. And, it always seems to appear from the same place (top right of the screen as you look at it).
I’m glad it’s drawn to kindness and compassion. 😀 I’ll see if I can capture it on screen again. It doesn’t always appear, just occasionally.
Have you considered that your computer is a portal to the horizontal realm (my creation)? You never know but it could be. I do believe there are “portals” throughout the earth. Are you ready to write another story??? Let me know if this keeps happening. I find it fascinating. ❤
Never thought about it, Colleen, but it’s a very good explanation. I’m always ready for writing another story. Shall I send the next one that comes to me? I don’t know when it will come to me but, when it does, I’ll write it down and send it over. Sometimes, writing prompts can get my creative cogs turning. Other times, it’s while out and about.
Have a lovely weekend. 🧚♂️
Absolutely! You and your stories are always welcome. ❤️
Great post, Hugh. Love Kylie – and that orb is spooky.
Thanks, Mary. That orb won’t leave me alone. Whenever I’m in that room, it seems to sit just by the side of me.
Happy Hallowe’en, Hugh. Love the Kylie (and the Hugh) videos!
Here’s what the kids on our street seem to be singing right now:
Your choice of song is familiar, Donna, yet I don’t know the band or the title of the song. Perfect for Halloween, though. 🎃
Monster Mash has to be my all-time favourite…I hope you all had a wicked Halloween( It is ) not celebrated here…Your video did not disappoint Hugh…as always you are the master of suspense a great little video :).
Thanks, Carol. I made that video earlier this year. Then I remembered that strange object appearing in the video, so I thought it a great idea to show it again.
Yes, great idea added to the atmosphere Hugh 🙂
Great choice and I love your video, your chair always gets me!!
That chair has a mind of its own, Willow. 😀
I can see that Hugh!! 😱
Hi Hugh, great songs, I love the your video! Happy Halloween!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth. I hope you had a lovely Halloween? 👻
What a fun Halloween treat! Loved the music and seeing and hearing you in action.
Thank you so much. The acting lessons may be paying off. 😀
Looks like an orb… what is it, Hugh?
I don’t know, but it’s appeared again in that same room. Am I being watched over, Erika?
You obviously are, Hugh…. that video called the spirits!
Love Kylie. That dot of light has to be coming from the monsters eye. I think it is a sensor.
You mean there’s a monster lurking somewhere in my study, John? 😱
You said it. Look behind you, quick.
Thank you darling Hugh, but the Halloween playlist isn’t from Em Linthorpe, it’s mine at Just Another Blog From a Woman. You’ve linked to the right blog- just got the name wrong. It’s understandable, we look similar ha x
Oh, I’m so sorry about that mistake. My broomstick broke down yesterday, and I was all of a fluster. I’ve updated the post now. 🎃
Haha. It happens to the best of us. Thank you so much xx
I love bit of Kylie too, Hugh. Love the story Hugh, It looks like an orb came into the room, spooooooky!
My choice has to be Michael Jackson! The hype, the video, the choreography, and of course the music! Oh, and not forgetting dear old Vincent Price! This video reminds me very much of the film ‘An american Werewolf in London’ which I thought was great!
I’ve no idea where that orb came from, Judy. It’s since made another appearance and I’m now wondering what it wants with me.
Thank you for your choice of song that would feature on your Haloween playlist. I remember how the whole world went crazy when that video first came out. The song is just as amazing. I also loved the original version of An American Werewolf in London. I think I had a bit of a soft spot for Jenny Agutter, but don’t tell anyone. 😀
Jenny Agutter is lovely still, and I love her voice, so can understand your soft spot for her, Hugh 🙂
I think we all know my feelings about Kylie 🙂
No, we don’t. Do tell, Steve. 😀
I can’t resist a good orb or spirit or ghost! Perfect for Halloween, too! I’m not familiar with Kylie or the song but since I was beginning my journey as a mom in 1990, I’m not too surprised. 🙂
Kylie was never as successful in North America as she was in Europe, Kat. I think she did eventually have a few chart successes in your part of the world.
Akkk! Hugh you tease!
I’m on my lunch break, so I can’t play the video. Even so, I know it is a marvelous video — how could you make something that was not? Impossible.
“Better the Devil You Know” is a perfect title for Halloween. Mega hugs!
Thanks, Teagan. I hope you got to play the video later on. It’s a really great dance track. Always gets me dancing. When I saw that orb in my acting debut video, I immediately thought of Thistledown. 😀
Hugs to you.
Didn’t know the Kylie song, Hugh. Love the video, great sound effects. Favorite Halloween song for me is still an oldie…The Monster Mash. Nice childhood memory.
I love ‘The Monster Mash’, Van. It’s been played on the radio so much today. Such a shame we only hear it at Halloween.
I do.love me a bit of Kylie!
Ooh, looks like you got your very own orb in shot – how spooky! 🙂
It’s made more than one appearance in that room, Ruth. I wonder what/who it is?
