Book Of The Month – The Eternals – by Richard M. Ankers @Richard_Ankers

Welcome to Richard M. Ankers, who has been a big supporter of my blog ever since I first appeared in the blogging world. Over to you, Richard…

What’s the name of the book?

THE ETERNALS

What inspired you to write it?

The original idea stemmed from a simple image of the moon set in a blood-red sky posted on her own blog by my good friend and fellow Creativia author Cynthia Morgan.

How long did it take you to write it?

I am a very fast writer. The story itself was completed in just a few weeks. I wrote it so quickly that I then continued straight on and wrote its two sequels. The editing, however, and the fact I border on paranoia as regards making sure the manuscript is perfect, took much, much longer.

Tell us a little about the story and the characters.

THE ETERNALS is set at the end of our sun’s lifespan. An offshoot of humanity who are neither human nor vampire, retaining the physical aspects of the former and lifespans of the latter, are about to realise time for them will end. This is a concept they have dismissed, neither having believed it possible nor planned for.

Who do you think the book will appeal to?

I would like to think the story will appear to anyone who likes fantastical fiction. A blend of Science Fiction and Dark Fantasy, it provides a form of literary escapism. I’ve always been a believer that a good story is ageless in both itself and its readership, so I hate to pin definite age limits to a book. As long as the content is appropriate, which it is, it should appeal to anyone teens upwards.

Do you have any plans for a follow-up book?

Yes. There are two sequels which are both now available, HUNTER HUNTED and INTO ETERNITY.

Where can people buy the book?

THE ETERNALS is available from Amazon as a Kindle download, Kindle Unlimited, and paperback.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve written all my life, but never shared my work until my thirties. I was and still am incredibly shy as regards my writing. In fact, it bothers me so much that the only way I can share my work is to separate myself from any comments made. I don’t pay any attention to the good comments or the bad. If I did, I wouldn’t be able to write.

Where do your ideas for your stories come from?

Everywhere. A story can stem from a thought, image or just closing my eyes. I live and breathe new tales. There will never be enough minutes in my lifetime to write down all I would wish.

When and where (and how often) do you write?

I gave up my job to write professionally and as such write all day long. Literally, all day long. I love it.

What do you think the future hold for you and your books, or what plans do have for future books?

I have seven more books in the works. One Steampunk/Fantasy, Britannia Unleashed, is already completed. Four more books will branch off from the characters it introduces. Where and how I publish them is the bigger question. Anyone who knows me will say I don’t push my own work, but I can tell you this, three of the offshoots, which will be titled the Theatre of the Moon Trilogy, are exceptional. They’re as good as any fantasy novels you’ll find.

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone who wants to write and publish a book?

Never let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. Write what you want how you want. Enjoy what you write for the writing itself, not for the money. If you don’t enjoy it, you shouldn’t be doing it.

What does blogging mean to you?

Blogging was and still is a place for me to put all the writings that would otherwise be dumped. I write so much I forget most pieces. As the four years I have been blogging have trickled away, my blog has become more of a means of self-promotion. I find the act of interactive blogging very difficult. I hate talking about me and as I have said am inherently shy. The joy, and what keeps me going, has been the wonderful people I have met en route. People like you Hugh.

What have you learned from being a blogger?

I am not alone.

Thank you, Richard, for answering all my questions.
