Flipboard is social media platform I discovered last year. Unfortunately, I never really gave it much attention, but a recent upsurge in traffic to my blog from it has convinced me to give it more attentiveness. However, WordPress don’t have a sharing button for Flipboard, so I’ve found out a way to add one.
In my version, you’ll need a Flipboard account to add the sharing button so other bloggers can share your posts on their Flipboard account. You can set one up by going to the Flipboard site at www.flipboard.com. Once your account is ready, you need never use it unless you want to share the posts of other bloggers to it.
Follow my guide below.
- Click on WP Admin to access the dashboard of your blog.
- Click on settings.
- Click on sharing. You’ll now find yourself on the sharing settings page.
- Locate and click on the ‘Add A New Service’ link.
- A new window will open.
- In the ‘Service Name’ box add the word Flipboard.
- In the ‘Sharing ULR’ box, you need to copy and paste the following URL address –
- We’ll leave the Icon URL box empty for now because you will need to find a Flipboard icon image. The easiest way to do this is by finding one on Google.
- When you get the results, click on images and copy and paste a Flipboard icon into your WordPress media library. To do this, I had to add one of the icons to the desktop of my computer and then add the image to my WordPress library by dragging it from my desktop into my media library.
- Once the image is added to your WordPress library, click on it and copy and paste the WordPress URL address of the image to the Icon URL box of the ‘Add A New Service’ window.
- Click on the ‘Create Share Button.’
- You will now find your new Flipboard sharing button under ‘Available Services.’
- Click and drag the button to ‘Enabled Services’ and place it where you want.
- The Flipboard sharing button will now show on all your posts.
- You’re all done.
My thanks to Terri Webster Schrandt and Ritu Bhathal who helped me in getting some of these details.

hi hugh, just found your post on google.. just wondering where did you find your flipboard button because im going round and round google.. does this post still work as i can see in its title trashed? thanks
Yes, it should all work. I got the Flipboard button directly from the Flipboard website. Here’s a link to their ‘tools’ page.
https://about.flipboard.com/social-plugins/?tool=follow
I think I must have ‘trashed’ this post at some stage because I have no idea why the URL has ‘trash’ in it. I must have put it in the trashed file and then moved it back to my draft folder at a later date. 🙄
Great to hear that Google bought up my post when you did a search.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need any further help with installing the sharing button.
Hi Hugh I managed it when I read your but about clicking images, I then managed to get it all to work, thanks to your very useful post. I’m glad Google did bring it up because I would have been stuck otherwise, thanks.
Brilliant. That’s great news. I’m always happy to help.
Thanks for the tip, Hugh! I had failed before but it’s up now!
Welcome abroad, Susie. Let us know you’re Flipboard ID so we can follow you on there.
Here it is! https://flipboard.com/@SusieLindau
Also, off topic but what would you do if someones reblog ranked higher than your original content?
Thanks, Susie. You’ve a new follower on Flipboard. 😀
Ranked in what sense? Do you mean on Google?
Yes! It’s on the first page and mine must be buried on page 342. 🙂
That will need some dissecting as to why it’s happened. I would have thought an original should always beat a reblog. Maybe the reblogger used some keywords in his/her introduction that Googled liked?
I think so. I just found out that my theme is retired. It doesn’t automatically summarize posts so I sometimes add the “read more” tag. Crawlers may not be able to read the whole post. Another project ahead!
Hi, I have wordpress personal plan…don’t seem to have the setting you describe..are they only available on the business plan? thanks
When you say a ‘personal’ plan, do you mean self-hosted?
Yes, self hosted but not the full business plan, thanks
Okay, the settings are going to be very different then. I’m not very good when it comes to self-hosted sites as I’ve never used one. However, I have seen self-hosted bloggers with the Flipboard sharing button on their posts. It may come as part of a plugin. I recommend you ask the company you use to self-host your site. I’m sure they will be able to help you. Sorry, I can’t be of any further help.
Thanks again, Hugh. I think this is the second or third time you have saved me!
Always a pleasure to help, Christine. 😀
I think i may just love you Hugh mmmmmwwwwaaa! Flipped and pinned. X
Yaahooooooo! Glad somebody does, Ellen. No, I’m only joking. I’m just very pleased that this post has helped somebody else. Please include a link to your Flipboard account so we can follow you over there. 😀
Oh dear how to find a link??? My thingy… is @cheshirebest and I already follow you if that isn’t enough ask again I know a man who probably does. *look of terror*
I found you 😀
I need to pay more attention to who is following me on Flipboard. Happy flipping, Ellen. 😀
Flipping dodahs they don’t make these things easy, but for the help of people like you who ease the way, I almost shut down flip, stumble and insta last week. So much to learn. X
I think it helps by sticking to just a few social media accounts and closing your accounts with any others down. I now only stick with three, and it’s helped me a great deal.
You could be right Hugh.
Great help! Thank you.
You’re very welcome.
Thanks Hugh, now I finally have Flipboard up and running too. You’re a lifesaver. 🙂
You’re welcome. Happy Flipping. 😎
Desperately seeking guidance here! My wordpress dashboard doesn’t offer the WP admin option, and in both settings and sharing there are no links to add a new service. What the heck am I missing?!
I know WordPress have removed some options (as a part of their upgrades) but I am lost lost lost.
So, when you click on ‘My Sites’ in the top left of your blog, there is no menu with WP Admin at the bottom that appears underneath it? Would you able to send me a screen shot of what appears on your blog when you click on ‘My Sites’? Without seeing your screen it’s difficult to know just what you are seeing. You can contact me directly by clicking on the ‘Contact Hugh’ button in the menu at the top of my blog. Once you do that, WordPress will send me an email with your details and we can then correspond via email if it makes it any easier.
Thanks Hugh. I’ll do exactly that.
Great info! Thanks
You’re very welcome, Jean.
Hello! Found you via SuzieSpeaks. Thank you for the clear pointers on how to add Flipboard. I’ve now added the button on my own posts and followed you on Flipboard. Is it weird I want to tweet this as well? Ha.
Thanks again,
Lorna
Hi, Lorna, Lovely to meet you. No, go ahead and tweet. Twitter is one of my three preferred social media platforms.
Thanks so much for the follow.
Best wishes,
Hugh
Applesauce! Another site for me to learn about? But I do enjoy learning, Hugh. I’d never heard of Flipboard; no clue about it. So thanks for making me aware.
(I tried to work with BeeBee [alternative to LinkedIn], but that was just one thing too many for my already abbreviated social media time. So I let it go.) Flipboard, huh? Mega hugs.
I gave up on LinkedIn a few weeks ago, Teagan. I’ve also now thrown the towel in on Pinterest. I think we all get to find out which social media sites work best for us. I came across Flipboard about a year ago, but never really thought much about it. However, once those stats started coming though I took a bit more notice and have now fallen in love with Flipboard. Anybody would think they were paying me to say that, but I can guarantee they are not. They did reach out to me and I’ve always been a huge lover of good customer service. It always makes me want to go back.
Hugs to you.
