I’ve been loving all the memories you’ve been sharing with me for this new music feature. Thank you to everyone that has participated.
Have you ever heard of Hi-NRG music? Here, in the U.K, it was very popular back in the 1980s, and one singer who was on the Hi-NRG circulate, at the time, was Hazell Dean. Hazell had three UK top 10 hits with her Hi-NRG tracks, with the best-known probably being ‘Who’s Leaving Who.’ Take it away, Hazell.
And here’s the second video in case that first one does not play for all of you. *Cough, cough* – excuse the pre-advert which you can skip.
Reaching the dizzy heights of number 4 in the U.K charts, number 2 in Ireland, number 11 in Switzerland, and a top 20 hit in Austria, Belguim, Germany and South Africa, Hazell never actually managed to conquer the charts in the U.S.A. 😞
Even with some of the strange lyrics –
“And I don’t know the answers cause I don’t know the questions” 🤔
– this particular track brings back many happy memories of my disco dancing days on the floors of a few London nightclubs.
And I love the video that was made to accompany the song (even with some of the very bad dad dancing going on – *cough, again* – Sorry, Hazell).
In 1984, Hazell even had a stab at being chosen to represent the U.K in The Eurovision Song Contest but, sadly, her song was placed seventh out of eight songs.
Thank you to everyone who left a link to a favourite song in the comments section of last week’s post. And a big thank you to Ruth, Barbara, Terri, and Kat who all joined in with publishing a blog post of a favourite song.
Have you heard of Hazell Dean? Do you know anybody who can dad dance? What did you think of my choice for week 5?

I’d not heard this week’s song you chose by Hazell Dean, but I did like hearing it! The Dad Dancing was hilarious! 🙂 … Here’s my entry for week 5… enjoy! http://wp.me/p3RE1e-2n2
Thanks so much, Barbara.. Just been listening to the tune you’ve chosen this week. A fun song. 😀
OMG still LOLing at the ‘dad dancing’ and the old belt loop grabbing!!! So funny, did we really party like that? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I remember Hi NRG band, but I didn’t remember them sounding somewhat like ABBA. Good one Hugh! Thanks for the chuckles. ❤
Well, I don’t know about you, but I think I did party like that, Debby. Don’t catch me on the dancefloor so much these days. I seem to prefer propping up the bar. 🍷🙄
xx
Lollllllllllllllll. Well I bet I could get you up from that bar. But if I see you grabbing your belt loops, I’m gone! LOLLLLLLLLL 🙂 xoxo
“disco dancing days on the floors of a few London nightclubs” This is exactly what comes to mind when I heard the song. This song is SO the 80’s!!!!
Yes, I know quite a few guys that are way too good at Dad Dancing. lol
I agree, Kat. It has 1980s written all over it. For me, they were the best decade for music.
https://youtu.be/LPfce9FvjgA The ultimate dance to for me I know it says 1992 but they were an 80’s goth band.
In the back of my mind, I know this group, but not this song. Thanks for joining in, Adele. 😀
my pleasure it’s a lot of fun.
Nice song but I don’t remember Hazel. Dad dancing… well I never.. very entertaining and silly, but silly is just fine with me!!!
No? You don’t remember Hazell, Marje? She had a few other hits as well, but I think this one was the best known (for me, anyway).
Keep on dad dancing. 😀
No, but my memory is a bit hazy these days!! Oh dear… Perhaps I should get the hubby to do some dad dancing when he gets in from work!! LOL…
Sounds like a plan, Marje. Looking forward to seeing you at The Bloggers Bash. I see you’ve already bought your ticket. 😀
Guess what… I just bought my dress today! A new outfit every Bloggers Bash! Can’t wait to see you too. 🙂
Arr, now I’m going to have to go shopping 😀
Good on you, Marje.
Yes, I got a bit carried away, bought a dress, a lovely top, and a necklace… All in all had a bit of a treat me day!
Like one or two others here, I song I’d forgotten about but forgotten. Going back to last week’s comment (of mine), I was clearly more into the disco of the ’70s. Apart from the Bee Gees, we had Earth, Wind and Fire, Sister Sledge, et all, but I think Chic were probably my favourite of the time.
Good to see Nile Rogers has still got it as well. Daft Punk’s Get Lucky was one of the best songs in recent years
Thanks for your song choice, Graeme. I’m a big fan of 70s music as well, but 80s music just clips it for me. Chic were very cool and certainly right for the time.
I’m still looking for a dance floor that flashes and have added a pair of platform shoes to the list.
I’ve just read back the comment I made this morning and clearly I need to change my medication.
That aside – and in the vain hope I can regain some coherence – I will add that I loved the ’80s music as well as the ’70s. But one of the reasons I like the music (formative years aside) is the variety. Within the ’70s, apart from the introduction of disco, we had Glam Rock, ’50s throwbacks (Showaddywaddy, Darts, et al), some great MoR (The Carpenters, Bread, etc.), the introduction of the heavier rock (Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath and the like), the creatives (Sparks, 10cc, Roxy Music), Punk (see Geoff and his pogoing) and the sound that can only be described as ABBA. The ’80s continued with more of the same – well, maybe not so much of the Glam – but introduced the New Romantics, saw Heavy Metal become more mainstream and the introduction of Rap. I’m guessing I’m preaching to the converted here but, by comparison, what other decades have seen so much creativity?
Still, back to the dance floor… By all means wear platforms, but I’m not as steady on my feet as I was, so I’ll stay closer to the ground… in my flared trousers and tie-died T-shirt
You need to write a whole post with this comment, Graeme. Lots in there. I’m sure your readers would be very interested in your thoughts. Wrap it up with introducing your all time favourite, or you could pick one from each decade? Music seems to get lots of people talking.
Yeah… Sorry about that, Hugh – it did turn into a mini post on its own.
I am intending to write about it actually, but from the perspective of being a regular at gigs in the 1980s. But I’m also intending to write my next Gogglebox post and haven’t got round to it. They will get written, honest.
Ahh, it’s all about time, Graeme. If only somebody could invite time? I always appreciate you taking the time to comment. You’re a true blogger. And, this year, I intend buying you that drink at the Bloggers Bash.
I’ll look forward to that. Might even buy you one back
I remember Hazel Dean I even had a black dress like the one she has on in the video!
That’s cool, Willow. And thank goodness you remember her as well. I was beginning to think I was the only one. Phew!
No Hugh you are not alone! 😎
I was already singing this one before I pressed play!!! brilliant…and I had sooo forgotten about this song!
Good to hear, Matt. Forgotten? Well, not anymore. 😀
Love that 80s music! Hazell is talented and looks great! Never heard of her 😦 Thanks for sharing!
I have to say that I think 80s music is the best, Terri. I could listen to it all day. In fact, I usually do.
Great song! It immediately reminded me of Bananarama! 🙂
The mighty Bananarama are certainly featuring in my list as well. Thank goodness we never picked the same song of theirs. You’ll have to wait a few more weeks before I reveal which of their songs I chose.
i am sure you and I are twin souls with our music preferences! I love Hazell Dean too and the Hi NRG stuff. I never could dance but enjoyed the music and watching those that could!
Here is my choice for this week. I loved this song despite the group getting slated and one of them meeting a tragic end. These two (and Jon Bon Jovi) are the only exceptions to me hating guys with long hair!
Good to hear somebody else remembers, Hazell, Judy. I think this was her best-known hit, although my partner disagrees with me.
Now, I don’t know the song you chose for this week. Heard of them, but never heard the song before. Loved the video and the location it was set in.
No, she sang ‘Who’s Leaving Who?’ and ‘Searchin’…Looking for Love’ as well. Do you remember them Hugh?
Do I? 😀 My Partner thinks her best song was ‘Searchin’. But, I disagree. It was her second best song. 😀
Ha! I prefer ‘Who’s Leaving Who?’ out of all of them, although they are all great! 🙂
Loved that song, I know I’ve heard it somewhere before. Nice and easy listening. At first I was blocked from listening for some strange reason. Finally it played. Didn’t know Chris Christie could move anything other than his mouth.
lol, for a big framed man, he dad dances very well. 😀
What a blast from the past!! Love the dad dance video xx
Thanks, Ritu. It was great fun, wasn’t it? 😀
It was Indeed
I’m enjoying this series. I’m not sure she made a hit here in the US. I have never heard of her, but doesn’t mean anything either 🙂
She was never able to conquer America, Chuck. Probably ahead of her time. Very popular on the LGBT scene over here, though.
Dare I mention Roxette, Hugh? Love them – Joyride, She’s got the look, Fading like a flower…
Mention them, Robbie. I remember them very well. Classic songs.
Very nice post, Hugh. What about They say its going to rain. That was my favourite.
Another good one from Hazell, Robbie. I’m so glad somebody else remembers her. Phew!
So very cool, Hugh! I remember that song but totally forgot about it! Thank you for the great reminder. A great song and artist!
I’m enjoying bringing these songs back to life, Erika. The trouble is, there are so many in there and I only have
5146 weeks left. Still, I’m having great fun in showcasing them.It is great having a music series going. That way you find so many old treasures and (as you said) bring them back to life!
Not familiar with your choice this week, but thanks for the dad dancing clip. Priceless.
You’re welcome, Van. I wasn’t going to add it, but glad I did. 😀
nope not someone I recall but she puts me in mind of http://vevo.ly/2nSjHK
Alison is a mighty fine singer, but Hazell is the champagne for me 🍾
Nice choice, though, Geoff
I don’t remember Hazel (sometimes I wonder under which rock I had been living)! I enjoyed the links…and especially LOVED the ‘Dad Dancing’!! Thanks for the Tuesday morning uplift.
You’re welcome, Donna. Hazell was never able to conquer the North American music charts. She did pretty well in the U.K and Europe, though.
I’d completely forgotten Hazell Dean – but sadly dad dancing has not been forgotten… 🙂
I say “Bring back Hazell.” I loved that women.
Dad dancing should be put in a time capsule and sent into space. I don’t think anybody would come visiting then.😀
