From The World Of Blogging – Edition 1

Welcome to my third new feature, for 2017, here on Hugh’s Views & News.

From The World Of Blogging

As bloggers, not only do we write and publish posts, but we also need to read and comment on the posts published by other bloggers. ‘From The World Of Blogging’ will feature blog posts I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading and commented on, as well as snippets of news I’d like to share with you.

First up, is a beautifully written post from Esther Newton. In ‘A Trip Down Memory Lane’ Esther reflects not only on the last moments of the life of her Grandfather but shares with us some wise words he asked her to promise to keep. A moving piece of writing that may bring a tear to the eye, Esther really brings out her feelings and manages to portray them to the reader. Check her post out by clicking here.

If you’re looking for some well thought-out and excellent blogging tips to spruce up your blog in 2017, then look no further than the blogs of Debby Kaye and Terri Webster Schrandt. In her article ‘Are You Maximising Your Blog’s Visual Appeal Using Widgets?’, Debby looks into the world of blog widgets, as well as listing some simple ideas that make our blogs more inviting to first-time visitors. Check out Debby’s post by clicking here.

Terri Webster Schrandt wrote and published a post entitled ‘Eight Simple Ideas To Inspire Your Blogging.’ As in the title, these are simple to do tips every blogger should consider trying out in order to bring more readers to their blog. Those new to the world of blogging will especially find these simple tips useful. Check out the post by clicking here.

On to some news from around the blogging world. This week, Erika Kind announced a brand new project with the opening of her online store. Packed with lots of products, it’s a great place to buy a gift for those who love inspirational quotes. If you don’t know it, Erika publishes her own daily inspirational quotes on her blog; many of which I have used in my own personal life. Check out Erika’s news of her online store by clicking here.

Sacha Black announced a competition for the third annual Bloggers’ Bash being held in London on June 10th, 2017. There are some great prizes up for grabs, so if you’re looking for a challenge which could land you a book cover design, a 1,000-word critique, an Amazon voucher, an author or website logo, or one of many other prizes, then click here for all the details.

Talking of The Bloggers’ Bash, there is one taking place in Chicago in August. The U.S. Blogging event committee is wanting to get an idea of how many bloggers will attend the event. Click here for all the details and let the committee know if you’d like to attend.

A big thank you to Deb, over at Deb’s World, for featuring my book, Glimpses, as her Friday Book Share. I’m overjoyed with the amazing reviews and feedback I’m getting for the book. Thank you so much to everyone that has written and a left a review for Glimpses; Marje, Christoph, Geoff, and Judy to name but a few. Check out Deb’s Friday book share post here.

That’s it for this first edition of ‘From The World Of Blogging’.  I hope you enjoyed it.

  1. Hugh, thank you so so very much for including me in your post. Sorry, that I am coming here so late! I just found the pingback… guess where… yes… spam! But that is an even bigger surprise and it honors me a lot that you mentioned my venture! Hugging you strongly 💖

    1. Seems some of my pingbacks for this post went to WordPress spam folders, Erika, but thank goodness all my comments aren’t. I thought I’d been captured by the spam monster again. 😱

I wish you every success with your new online venture. May it go from strength to strength.

      1. I don’t know why this happened again and it is even stranger since there is differed what goes to spam… crazy! I thank you so very much for your kind and encouraging words, Hugh, and again thank you so much for the support! I appreciate it ver very much!

  2. There is so much good information here that I’m going to save this page and keep referring back to it. Life is requiring small bites these days. Thank you for all the work you put into this. I’ll be back soon.

  3. Lovely post about the essence of blogging, Hugh. It certainly is about sharing and connecting, engaging with other bloggers who in turn will inspire us. Thanks for all these links to other blogs. I’ve had come across a few like Terri’s and looking forward to checking out the rest soon.

Visual appeal is so important to a blog as how we perceive things at sight influences the way we feel. And we all want others to feel welcome to our blogs. 😊

Congrats on the book once again, Hugh. Amazing things from you and have a good year.

    1. Thanks, Mabel. I enjoy putting these posts together and I love sharing good information so others can access it. I’ve already been informed by a few people that they had no idea there was a Bloggers Bash taking place in Chicago, so my share of that post has already helped.

Wishing you a fantastic year ahead.

  4. Love your third new series Hugh, it’s very informative. I read Esther’s heartfelt story and will be checking out Erika’s little store. And thank you so much for including my blogging post here too. You da best! 🙂 xo ❤

  5. Reblogged this on Second Wind Leisure Perspectives and commented:
This new feature on Hugh’s Views and News, epitomizes what his blog is about: views and news! Hugh graciously highlights the latest blogging news while sharing links to others’ blogs (including mine–many thanks, Hugh!). Hugh’s post features blogging tips, book reviews, and two 2017 blogging events, one in UK and the other in Chicago! Do check this out and visit the links!

  6. How lovely of you to help promote other bloggers, Hugh. I admire bloggers who take the time to help others. I’m afraid my blogging process is wildly erratic. Too much so to offer advice!

  7. I am thoroughly enjoying your 2017 new blogging features, Hugh. I have already been anticipating your next feature song post!
It is a lazy Sunday afternoon here on Vancouver Island, BC, so I am now off to check out the links that you have listed above. Thanks for sharing, and for being so supportive of fellow bloggers.

    1. Thanks so much, Donna. Week 2 of my 51 weeks, 51 songs from the past feature will be published on Tuesday. I’ve another great song lined up which I hope everyone will remember.

I left a comment over on your retirement post today. I hope it came through OK as I didn’t see it after I submitted it.

      1. Thanks, Hugh – I have an extremely over-active spam filter on my blog. I just checked and there you were! I greatly appreciate your comments and your kind words. See you Tuesday for Week 2 of 51!

        1. Oh no! I was in the spam folder? I hope I don’t end up in there all the time. I had terrible problems last year with all of my comments going to spam folders on all the blog I was leaving comments on. I hope I haven’t been captured by the spam monster again. 😱

  8. Great post Hugh! You are very supportive and encouraging toothed bloggers. Your recommendations will be taken on board and checked out. Also big thanks for including my Friday book share post here. I really appreciate the mention. Onwards and upwards!!

  9. I enjoyed DG Kaye’s blog. Learned a bit more about the ‘Press This’ feature of WP. Also nice to visit Erika as I have bumped into her here and there but yet to drop in on her own blog. Cheers!

  10. I agree it is a good thing – and good manners – to leave some sort of comment to let the blogger know you were there and you appreciated their effort.

    1. Absolutely. In my time here, I’ve come across so many bloggers who tell me they don’t have the time to visit and read and comment on other blogs. They don’t seem to last very long in the blogging world.

  11. You are on a creative roll, Hugh. I love all of these new features that you are introducing this year. I can’t believe that you have managed to write a book, and come up with all of these great ideas!
Thank you so much for the mention too 🙂

    1. Oh, you’re very welcome about the mention, Judy. It was so kind of you to read Glimpses and then write that wonderful review of the book in poetry. It really made me smile when I read it.

These ideas for the new features all came to me over Christmas & New Year while taking a blogging break. I think it proves (for me at least) that taking a break from Blogging really is good for you. 😀 I’ve one last new feature to announce.

  12. Another great feature, Hugh! Now I know why your blog is so popular! You are full of inspiration and don’t mind taking action. And you are very kind to and supportive of other bloggers and writers! 🙂

    1. Those are such lovely comments, thank you so much, Liesbet. I’ve had so much fantastic support from many bloggers and authors over the 3 years I’ve been blogging that this is my way of saying thank you to you all.

    1. Thanks, Terri, and you’re very welcome. I hope you can get to the bloggers’ event in Chicago. If it’s anything like the London event then it will be great fun. I only wish I could make it to Chicago. 😀

  13. This is amazing. Hugh! There’s so much useful information here. I need to sit down and start clicking/reading. 🙂 And I am soooooo excited to hear about The Bloggers’ Bash taking place in Chicago- this is the best news that I have heard today, if not the last week or month. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Kat. I wasn’t sure if you knew about the U.S. Bloggers Bash being held in Chicago. I hope you have a great time if you go to it. If it’s anything like the London one, then it’s going to be great fun for you guys.
Very pleased to hear it’s made your month. 😀

    1. Glad it finally reached you, Robbie. I hope you enjoy the read. There are a couple of mistakes in the book which I had to correct so you may spot them. The gremlins managed to switch a couple of letters around in the word Soldier! Grrrrr!
