Drum roll,  please. Ta Da!

Glimpses - The new book of some of my short stories. Publication Date: Friday 9th December 2016
Glimpses – The new book of some of my short stories. Publication Date: Friday 9th December 2016

I am so pleased finally to reveal the book cover for ‘Glimpses’, my upcoming book of short stories.

Why did I choose the name Glimpses for the book? Here’s an extract from the synopsis.

‘Glimpses’ allows the reader a peek into the lives of everyday people who are about to have life lead them on an unpredicted path. From a mysterious deadly iPad app, to a hole in the fence that is not all it seems, to a strange lipstick that appears to have a life of its own, you will encounter terror, laughter, sadness, shock and many other emotions on journeys which promise a thrilling and gripping climax.

Many of the stories inside the book come from writing and photo prompts and challenges set by some of you. So, thank you, Sacha Black, Sue Vincent, Jane Dougherty, Esther Newton and Charli Mills, for the prompts. Without you, some of the stories would never have been written.

Which stories will be in the book? There are 28 in all and I’ll be revealing the lineup soon.

Many of the stories have been rewritten for the book. I hope you’ll enjoy reading them.

Publication Date: Friday 9th December 2016.

  1. Reblogged this on Suzie Speaks and commented:
The long wait is over – Hugh’s book cover is here and it’s fabulous! It’s released on the 9th Dec! Please don’t like or comment on the reblog – hop on over to Hugh’s place and say hello!

    1. That’s wonderful to hear, Tina. Thank you so much. The cover is so important when it comes to publishing a book. If it’s not eye-catching then many will pass it by without so much as giving it a second glance.

  2. Hi Hugh,
Congratulations about your book. Exciting times!
I, too, am publishing an Ebook. You are a great inspiration about what to do right. Thanks for modelling for me how to promote the book and reveal the cover.

    1. Thank you, Janice. I’m no expert when it comes to publishing a book, but what I have learned has been from many others here on WordPress. Without them, I’d certainly not be as this far in the process.
Good luck with the book. Have you a planned publication date?

  3. Congratulations, Hugh. What an apt cover for your book. One eye against all those stories, trying to read them all…but sometimes seeing can be deceiving. Just like how life can be deceiving and unexpected. I am so excited for your 28 short stories and will get the book when it comes out. It has been quite a journey for you, from the beginnings of your blog, to the Bloggers Bash and now you have done your first book. It has been a ride and I have enjoyed following along. Very nice to hear that the blogging community inspired you, and good luck with the release 🙂

    1. You’ve put it so wonderfully well, thank you, Mabel. Yes, it’s been quite a journey with still a little way to go. I’ve enjoyed every moment, though. I would never have dreamt that I’d actually be revealing a cover for my first book. Now to work on the finishing touches to the book before publication day. I’ll be sure to keep you all informed. Thank you for all your support and your friendship. 😀

      1. No worries, Hugh. It is very admirable and inspiring to see a fellow blogger come out with a book. It doesn’t happen overnight. From what I have read on your blog about the book-process, it doesn’t sound rushed – but you’re taking you’re time and giving it your all. Good luck with the last leg 🙂

  4. Hi Hugh.
I LIKE this! How cool is this? and I’m intrigued by your subjects. I can’t wait to read your stories.
I have everything crossed for you and it deserves to do really well.

    1. Thanks so much, Dorne. I’ll be releasing the story lineup along with a brief synopsis for each of the stories soon. My editor thinks I’ve done a great job with them and said they will certainly intrigue the reader in wanting to find out what is happening and the outcome of each story.
Just a word of warning…the cat one is in there. 😱

  5. Wonderful cover, one that would definitely leap out at me and your stories sound intriguing. Since the advent of ebooks I have really ‘discovered’ short stories as a reader. They provide an entirely different pace and experience from a full length novel and a very welcome one too. Look forward reading. Very good luck with it.

    1. Hello, Wendy. Thank you very much. I’m so pleased the cover caught your eye. 😀 I think George, my cover designer, did a brilliant job.
The world of the short story is a fascinating one. Probably one that gets little attention. I hoping my book can bring Short Stories to the forefront and to put them up there with the big novels. I think I’ve got a lot of work to do, but I’m enjoying it very much.

  6. This really intrigued me! I’ll check out more of your blog later, but publishing a book of short stories is an awesome accomplishment

    1. That’s very kind, Grant, thanks so much. It’s music to my ears to hear that the cover has intrigued you. So often I’ve been told that it’s the cover that will make people pick up the book and to investigate further.

    1. Hi, Christine. Thanks so much.
There haven’t been many storytelling posts of late. I have six new short stories behind me but am keeping them for book 2. 😀 However, I may post the odd one every now and again.

    1. Thank you, Diana. I’m so delighted with both the title and the cover. Of course, it was the title that came first. Then my book cover designer did a great job with the cover. I’m over the moon with what he came up with.

    1. Thank you, Sherrie. I’m so pleased to hear you like the cover.
Thanks to Richard for sending you my way.

P.S – I found your comment in my spam folder. Not sure if you’ve had problems with your comments ending up in the spam folder. Let me know if you have, because you’ll need to report it to WordPress so they can fix it.

      1. Hey there, Hugh! Oh, that is strange that my comment is in the spam holder. Odd.
But on my side, actually, I have no Problems on that. But the one that we always seems to have have Problem with are the Notification – few does not seem to appear. WP has its glitch again.

        Happy Sunday to you, Hugh!

        1. This one came straight through, Sherrie. I think WordPress are constantly trying to improve their platform which, unfortunately, can lead to bugs entering the system. They can be very frustrating when it happens.

          Have a great day. 😀
