How many times have you clicked on the Gravatar image of somebody who has left a comment on a blog post and not been able to find their blog details? Frustrating, isn’t it?
The image that appears next to a comment is known as a Gravatar. Here’s an example.
If I hover my mouse over Ritu’s image, the following happens.
If I wanted to find Ritu’s blog, I would need to click on the ‘View Complete Profile’ button.
When I do that, I’m taken to her Gravatar page.
Ritu’s websites, including her blog, are listed towards the bottom of the page. All I have to do is click on the ‘But I Smile Anyway‘ blog image (under ‘Websites’) and, hey presto, I’m taken straight to her blog.
But how do you add your WordPress blog to your Gravatar profile?
- Using a search engine, search for Gravatar.
- Sign into Gravatar by using your WordPress sign in details (top right of the page).
- You’ll be taken to your Gravatar page.
- Click on ‘My Profile.’
- In the right-hand box, click on ‘Websites.’
- At the bottom of the page click on the ‘Add WordPress.Com Site’ button.
On this page, you can also add other websites such as your Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites by clicking on the ‘Add Website’ button.
- Select the WordPress blog you want to add.
- Click on ‘Add Checked’ and/or ‘Save’.
Your WordPress blog will now be added to your Gravatar.
Any questions? Leave me a comment, and I’ll get back to you.

This was really helpful! I actually had some of my profile already set up on Gravatar, but did not have my websites linked, so thank you for helping me figure that out! I also needed to update my profile since it was clearly an old one lol.
So glad to have been of some help. I’m glad it also acted as a reminder to update your profile.
Not sure why, but your comment ended up in my WordPress spam folder. Thank goodness I check it at least once a day.
Yeah, that happens once in a while with people who comment on my posts too, even people who comment regularly. I’m not sure how WordPress is figuring out what spam is lol.
Me neither. It’s one of the little mysteries of WordPress.
Reblogged this on WordPress Guidelines and commented:
Do you know that you can add your WordPress Blog name to your “Gravatar” which is what readers will see when they hover their mouse over your icon / gravatar when you Comment upon a post? Here is how it is done.
Great help thank you, I had no idea that was possible. I am so glad Gin and Lemonade shared your link in her post as it helped me figure it out. https://ginlemonade.com/2018/03/13/more-no-bullshit-blogging-advice/
You’re welcome. And thank you to Lorna for linking to the post.
I am definitely saving this for later. I keep seeing things about putting in a gravatar, but haven’t given much thought to it. How do I come up with a logo?
A logo for your Gravatar? Just replace the current picture on your Gravatar with a logo. Under ‘My profile’ click on ‘Photo Gallery’ then on ‘add new image’ and add the new image of your logo from there.
Very helpful tips indeed.Luckily I already had updated my blog but after reading this I went and cross checked.#Bloggerpitstop
Thank you. I did the same, although I did end up adding a few of my social media sites to my Gravatar.
