Here are my photos for this week’s WordPress photography challenge which has the theme of Edge. All these photos were taken at The Grand Canyon.
Walking out over the canyon on that glass platform is not for the faint-hearted. Yes, I did do it. I’m sure the lady taking the photo kept telling that man to keep moving back!
Many people took great delight in just sitting on the edge.
See the lady in the top left-hand corner of this photo? She was in a world of her own. Who can blame her?
This is as close as I got to the edge of the Grand Canyon.
I hope you enjoyed being close to the Edge with me.

WOW! I get vertigo just looking.
That’s great to hear, Helen. Tells me I got this challenge right. 😀
Great story and post. I spend much of my life sitting on the edge. In some ways, that part of a decision to live life to the full but my health challenges have taken me there too many times too.
My daughter has quite a fear of heights but she ends up having to join us and it’s getting better. Wasn’t happy going on the Ferris wheel at the Royal Sydney Easter Show but just returned from a school camp and was saying how she’d tried all the activities although there were times abseilling where she was curled up in a ball. So proud of how she’s edging away at overcoming her fears. She’s only ten and doing better at it than her Mum.
Hope you have a great weekend.
xx Rowena
That’s a lovely story to hear, Rowena. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Enjoy your weekend.
Hugh
Thanks Hugh. It’s very important to share stories of people overcoming fear, especially with what we now know about neuroplasticity and that change is achievable.
I enjoyed reading the story. Also, I’d choose the ruins too. I got bitten by a wasp, and that really hurt.
Thank you. Wasps and I are not friends. In fact, I really don’t like them at all, so I know where you are coming from.
I went to the canyon many years ago, before that building and platform were built. Is the platform glass, you look down just under you? Cool
Yes, it has a glass floor and sides. You have to wear a shoe cover over your shoes so as to not scratch the surface. It was a mindblowing experience. I’ve got the photos which I’ll have to use for another challenge.
Wow Hugh, great photos, do you believe that I’ve never been there? It’s on my list of places to go, I have already planned the trip: few days in Vegas and then the canyon. Have you been there recently?
Hi Elizabeth. We went to Las Vegas in September 2014 and had a day trip to the Grand Canyon. It was a wonderful day out, although not one of the faint-hearted.
Great photo! I went before they had built the platform. I’ve jumped off a plane in a parachute a couple of times but have no pictures (it was also a while back)
You’re far braver than me, Olga. I don’t think I could have taken that jump out of an aeroplane.
I quite enjoyed looking over the edge in your photos. I wouldn’t have got nearly as close in reality. What awesome views!
Thanks, Norah. Not something for the fainthearted, but a fabulous place to visit.
Wow! Stunning photos, Hugh! I’ve been to the Grand Canyon several times and have seen thousands of photographs, but yours really being it to life 🙂
That’s so kind, thank you, Tina. I’ve more, but they’ll have to wait for another day.
I will get to visit there one day but I’m not sure how close I’ll be able to get to the edge. Great pics of a fantastic area.
Thank you, Deb. I hope you do make it to the edge and capture that long look down. It’s an amazing place.
Great photos! i didn’t get such wonderful photos when I was there. The first time I was there, there was no glass walkway. The Grand Canyon is very impressive for a hole in the ground.. That you took those photos with your phone is most amazing. I had no real desire to walk out on the glass ledge either but did it so I could say I had.
I loved the walk over the glass platform walkway, although I wouldn’t like the job of polishing all that glass! It was an amazing visit that I hope we will do again.
I used to live about 3 hours from there for many years and only went once during that time and once many years early as we drove cross country. There are so many wonderful places to see but I’m hoping for another run at Europe and maybe next time places I haven’t been to before like England, Ireland, Belgium, etc. I wouldn’t want to polish that glass either. 😦
Reminds me of living in London for 27 years and not ever visiting some of the sights. I find that sometimes you actually have to be a proper tourist to go and visit these places. 😀
Incredible photos, Hugh! It’s an amazing sight and too much to take in all at once. My husband and I flew over in a helicopter. My heart nearly gave out as we flew all around the rims. Fantastic and frightening experience! I am not a lover of heights but I had to do it and am glad I did. But I won’t do it again! LOL! Flew over Hawaii too in a helicopter. That was breathtaking and again nearly died from fright as we dipped up and down over cliffs and waterfalls! Yikes! Beautiful though! 😳😁
My partner would not do the helicopter flight, although the rest of the family did. I couldn’t leave him on his own so I had to get near the edge to get the full effect.
The helicopter ride around Hawaii sounds amazing, Janice. I probably would have been screaming with sheer joy in the back of the helicopter.
Fabulous photos, Hugh. I enjoyed looking at them, but there is no way I’d have been at the edge with you.
I was quite brave, Michelle. What the photos don’t tell you is the screaming coming from my partner! 😱
LOL. That would have been me.
Absolutely wicked photos Hugh, so stunning I really hope I get to visit one day 😊
I hope you do. The glass platform walkway is a must if you dare.
Brilliant Hugh still giggling ” Back a bit love ” 😋
I’m sure that’s what I overheard her saying, Willow. 😁 Then again, it was rather windy, so those words may have been carried by the wind. 😀
Yes! Right!!
Oh, I would love to see this in real life. Not afraid of heights but terrified of tunnelling underground.Jx
You’d love it then, Judith. I hope you make it to the Gand Canyon one day.
Thansk for sharing the wonderful photos!
You’re welcome, Dan.
Perfect! 😃
Thank you.
Eek; you’re terrifying me, Hugh! 🙂 I hope to see the Grand Canyon someday (maybe soon), but from a longer (safer) distance! But still, I love the photos, Hugh. Looks like you and J had lots of fun between the natural landscapes and other Vegas excursions.
We did, although John didn’t take kindly to the heights or me going close to the edges to take the photos. He had to scream at me once or twice, Leigh. 😱
Vegas was mind blowing!
Aha, I always knew I liked John. Direct confirmation! Sensible man you’ve got there, Hugh! 🙂 You’ll have to do a Vegas retrospective; obviously, there’s tons to do there, but to see Elton John seems to me the pinnacle of a Vegas experience (I’m not much into gambling).
Elton had taken the place of Celine Dion. We saw her in concert at the O2 in London a few years ago. Both fantastic acts.
Yep, we also went to Vegas and did not gamble. However, my niece came away $50 better off. She soon spent her winnings. 👠
Wow, that’s awesome. It looks like another planet.
Isn’t it, Sarah? I’m so glad we did the trip. On the way back we called in for a stop near Area 51. I wonder how close we were to some real aliens?
I think there probably are some aliens there, but I can’t tell you why I think this, other than to say it is to do with “who” told me it was so. Shush … my finger is to my lip.
Oh go on, Sarah…please 😀
THEY might come and get me 😉
Thank you Hugh I did
Brilliant! I hope you’ll come back for more trips with me, Abrie? I do the occasional gentle ones as well. 😀
Hugh, when were you in my beloved Arizona? I have some wonderful photos myself at the canyon. Truly one of God’s miracles. ❤
We were there in September 2014, Debby. We were in Las Vegas for five days and this was the one and only trip we had out of the city. It was a very quick trip to the States. John wouldn’t do the helicopter tour of the canyon, but I managed to drag him out on the glass walkway.😀 His Sister, her husband, and our niece did the helicopter trip. We stopped off near Area 51 and I had a photo taken of me with some aliens doing an autopsy on me! While in Las Vegas, we attended a Wedding, saw Elton John in concert at Caesar’s Palace, and also saw the biggest chocolate fountain in the world. A lot in five days, but it was a great trip.
Wow! And yes, now I remember you going to Vegas. You sure did pack a lot of action in. I’m glad you got to the canyon, even without helicopter. It’s so vast that if you don’t fly over in helicopter you couldn’t possibly take it all in as there are so many rims. I was fortunate enough to go by helicopter and land in the bottom. I should dig out that picture for you! xo 🙂
Please do, Debby. I can’t imagine what it must have been like at the bottom of that deep space. Maybe like walking on another planet?
Like a magical land! I’ll dig it out for you! ❤
Not sure I’d be able to do the glass floor and I certainly never get too close to the edge, but the Grand Canyon is simply grand, as your shot aptly show. Thanks for the trip, Hugh.
janet
It was great fun, Janet. I even persuaded my partner (who hates heights) to come on the walk over the glass floor with me. I’ve got some great photos of it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to use them if someone sets the theme of ‘panic’ for a photo challenge. 😱
I really felt on the edge with those photos! Great shots.
Thank you, Janice. I’m glad to hear it. These photos immediately sprang to mind when I saw the prompt.
Great photos, Hugh. I live about 2 days drive away and still haven’t visited. I will, but I won’t be walking out on that glass floor! Yikes 🙂
They give you shoe covers to wear over your shoes just in case anyone scratches the glass, Diana. Apparently, somebody thought the glass was cracking after seeing a scratch once, and it caused a bit of a panic. 😱
Oh my! I imagine it would! I used to rock climb, but as I’ve gotten older, heights make me very dizzy. I get chills just thinking about it!
Amazing photos, Hugh. I’m hopeless with heights though and even a picture of someone near the edge makes my stomach flip!
Not ones for you then, Cathy. My partner is exactly the same. He does not like heights and he really hated me going so near the edge.
Awesome photos, Hugh. Truly inspiring.
You were in the corner of the world (approximately) where I’ve been trying to move (relocate) for the past 4 years. Purely lovely. Mega hugs.
I hope you make it there, Teagan. We were staying in Las Vegas at the time.
I had an interview about 5 weeks ago for a great job in Las Vegas. The interview went really well, except for the woman who is retiring from the job expressing how appalled she was that I would move to a place I’d never been… Maybe she influenced the hiring manager ( I really liked him a lot…). I finally got an automated email saying I didn’t get the job. Arizona would be my first choice, but I just want to get back to the desert southwest. I’m flexible about what state. Oh well…
Meanwhile, thanks again for the photo tour. Hugs.
Sorry to hear you never got the job, Teagan. Fingers crossed that you’ll be packing up and on your way to the desert southwest very soon.
Amazing pictures, Hugh. I’m heading out to Vegas next month. Now, the Grand Canyon tour is on my to do list 🙂
We didn’t do the tour that included the helicopter ride because John hates heights! He was very brave walking out over that glass platform with me, though. I hope you’ll do that walk, Aimer?
Vegas was amazing.
Wow sitting on the edge must be exciting 😀 Great photos 😀
They were brave. I managed these shots, but my heart was pounding while taking them.
Thanks for taking us to the edge Hugh. Great photos.
Thank you for taking those steps with me, Miriam.
Wonderful photos , Hugh . You captured the spirit of this challenge dramatically and beautifully . Happy weekend !
Thank you, WG. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hugh Roberts rising to the Photo challenge #edge… wow…
Thank you for looking over that edge with me and sharing my photography, Sally.
xx
Wonderful photos Hugh! 😃
Thank you, Ritu. Taken with an iPhone 4! 📸
All my pics are phone taken Hugh! It’s rare I get to go out with a camera… and when I do its nothing fancy!!!
Hope you’re well 😃
I’m the same. The phone goes everywhere with me just in case of a photo opportunity. I’ve now got an iPhone 6 and love the quality of the photos, but the iPhone 4 did very very well for photos as well.
I’m all good thanks, Ritu. Now the book is back with the Editor, for its final check, I’ve time to do more blogging 😀
I look forward to catching up with you lots more then 😃
