Thank You…And Goodbye For Now

I’ve come to the end of a very long road, but what awaits me is very exciting.

Today, I begin a new adventure with my writing. Today, I would like to thank every single person who has visited, left comments, liked and given me so much support since I created Hugh’s Views and News on 12th February, 2014.

I’d like to thank everyone who reblogged my posts, who shared my writing on Social Media and encouraged me to write. It’s been a fantastic journey and I adore being part of this great big blogging community. It’s given me comfort, laughter, happiness and made me believe in myself. It has given me the chance to make some fantastic friends who have become a big part of my life. I’ve even had the chance to meet some of you and I’m looking forward to meeting even more of you.

From today you will notice that things will become a lot quieter on Hugh’s News and Views. I’ve taken the very hard decision to move away from writing on my blog so I can put all my efforts into creating one of the dreams I have had for as long as I can remember. That dream is to write and publish a book and that dream has now taken my hand and is guiding me in a new direction.

One of my passions is writing short stories. Some of you seem to enjoy reading them and have been asking me when I am going to publish them. Well, that time has come and, from today, I am beginning the process of putting a short story collection together.

Whilst this is all going on, Hugh’s Views And News will still be here. Whilst I won’t be publishing any new posts, I may share a few articles and I still want readers to be able to read my blogging tips posts and anything else useful I have published. Once my short story collection is ready I will be back, but you’ll also notice my absence in reading blog posts so that all my time can be put into my book. I’m afraid that it also means there won’t be any further photography challenges from me until I return. However, when I do return, I’ll be showcasing at least five entries from the current photo challenge when I announce a new challenge.

When will I return? How long is a piece of string? I don’t know but I can guarantee I will be back. In the meantime, I’d like to thank you all again and leave you with a little song that is the theme tune to my favourite TV show, The Golden Girls. This is for all of you out there.

  1. Good luck with the book Hugh.
Blogging and reading blogs does take up a lot of time and sometimes it has to be put on a back burner, to get on with other things…I know all about that.
As you told me recently. We’ll all still be here on your return.
Look forward to reading the book. Love to all. xxx

    1. Thank you, Dorne. It’s currently with my Editor and Proofreader. I’m now beginning work on the cover design. It’s a very exciting time and I’ve even managed to write 3 brand new short stories over the last ten days, two of which I entered into writing competitions. Still quite a bit of work to do, but I’m getting there. Taking a break from blogging has definitely helped.

Hope all is well with you and Mr W?

  2. Good luck with the writing and publishing your book, Hugh. You have come a long way from publishing on your blog, building a great community here and engaging with them. I am rooting for you to publish that short story collection and taking on the world with your writing. Knock the naysayers’ socks off 😀 Sometimes we have to make sacrifices in order to get to the big picture and our dreams in the long term. It can be daunting and you don’t know what lies ahead. But sounds like the time is right for you and you are following your heart.

Thank you for blogging and as per the comments above, we will all miss you and hope to see you back here at some point. Good luck once again 🙂

    1. Many thanks for your lovely comments, Mabel.

I’m very pleased to say that I am still living the dream. I’ve been away from Blogging for 90% of the last two weeks and it has helped in letting me get a lot of work done for my book. Editing is hard work and something that needs almost all of one’s attention.

I’ve missed the world of Blogging, but I will be back. It’s likely to be sometime during August, but that may even slip into September. We will see. 😃

      My best wishes to you.

  3. I know all about being torn between blogging and writing, which is one of the reasons I’ve not been visiting other people’s blogs as much lately. So far I’ve kept up posting, but all the while there’s that little niggling feeling of guilt in the back of my mind because I’m neglecting everyone quite a bit.
It’s hard work publishing your own stuff and takes a lot of focus and self-discipline.
All the best with your venture 🙂

    1. Thank you, Sarah.
I have done things the other way around. I’ve been visiting a small number of blogs, on a daily basis, after finishing editing. It’s helped me refresh my mind by reading rather than writing a post. Once the editing is finished I’ll then concentrating on writing some new short stories for some competitions.
I’ve surprised myself with my will-power. I thought I’d fail and be publishing blog posts by now, but I seem to have won out there and concentrated on the editing. The excitement of publishing my first book is certainly keeping me going. 😃

  4. Dear Hugh… (I thought I had commented to you, but I was at work… so double the chances of gremlin interference…) It is wonderful that you are doing this for yourself. Wishing you all the very best with the book. Of course we’ll all be waiting when you get back — with the added bonus of your new book.
If one has a job, I’ve come to realize the only way to finish a book is to stop blogging… or at least that’s how it is for me, 2+ years after I started the sequel to my novel. Shine on my friend!

    1. I agree, Teagan, although I haven’t completely stopped Blogging I have cut down my time on it by over 90%. I got heaps of editing done last week and although I still face a mountain to get that book published, I can look back and see just much progress I have made in making the dream come true. I’m hoping by the time this week comes to an end that I will be half way that that mountain.
      Thank you for your encouragement.
      Hugs to you.

  5. Good luck Hugh! This is such great news. Look forward to see your book published! If life isnt about making dreams comes true what is it right? I took a long break too in between. Joined the work force again so was getting used to the schedule. Just thought I’d drop in to see what was up with you and though the goodbye kind of surprised me the reason was good. I hope we stay in touch..look forward to the announcement!

    1. Absolutely, Nishi. I’ve lived with this dream for a long time and now I’m doing what needs to be done to make it come true. 😀

I’ve cut back the time I spend on blogging by over 90% and it has taught me a lot. Of course, I’ll be writing a post about it. I’ve got a long way to go before the book is ready for publication and, whilst I am missing everyone on here, I know I’m doing the right thing. I will be back although no idea as to when that will be.

Please do stay in touch. I’d love to know how life is going for you after your recent move back to India.

      Best wishes,

      1. I’m so glad we are still in touch. I got a job by the way and so was busy with that. Wrote a short piece on the good and the bad of getting back to work after a break…please do drop by and let me know what you think when you get the time…I hope you get to visit India on your book tour…:)

  6. Ahh Hugh, I had no idea you had signed off when I put my post up, planning on stopping by to see you before I disappeared into my memoir for the summer. I’m so excited for you…I can’t wait to read your book and I wish you nothing but the very best with it all. It’s great sharing our journey, pursuing our dreams, going for it. Now is the time my friend! We can do this! Big hugs… Sherri xxx

    1. Great minds think alike, Sherri. 😀 Same here in that I had no idea you were also just about to take a blogging break. Looks like we are doing this journey together.
Good luck with the writing while you are away. I look forward to reading the finished product.

  7. Well what a surprise! Just a wee touch of the au revoirs though, eh? I wish you every success in your venture, and I’ll follow your progress as you follow your dream.
Thank you for all the time you have spent encouraging all us bloggers. you’re much appreciated.

    1. Thanks, Helen. I will be back, just not quite sure when, yet. I’ve already got a lot done. Edited 22 short stories for the book, but still got a few more to do. Lots of hard work still ahead.

  8. In the best possible way, I’m really pleased to see you go. I took a similar break about 6 months ago and got loads of writing done. No doubt you’ll do the same. Wish you well – and see you again before too long

  9. Good luck, Hugh. Follow your dream. They say we only really regret the things we haven’t done. Go for it. We’ll all be here when you get back 🙂
