Thank You…And Goodbye For Now

I’ve come to the end of a very long road, but what awaits me is very exciting.

Today, I begin a new adventure with my writing. Today, I would like to thank every single person who has visited, left comments, liked and given me so much support since I created Hugh’s Views and News on 12th February, 2014.

I’d like to thank everyone who reblogged my posts, who shared my writing on Social Media and encouraged me to write. It’s been a fantastic journey and I adore being part of this great big blogging community. It’s given me comfort, laughter, happiness and made me believe in myself. It has given me the chance to make some fantastic friends who have become a big part of my life. I’ve even had the chance to meet some of you and I’m looking forward to meeting even more of you.

From today you will notice that things will become a lot quieter on Hugh’s News and Views. I’ve taken the very hard decision to move away from writing on my blog so I can put all my efforts into creating one of the dreams I have had for as long as I can remember. That dream is to write and publish a book and that dream has now taken my hand and is guiding me in a new direction.

One of my passions is writing short stories. Some of you seem to enjoy reading them and have been asking me when I am going to publish them. Well, that time has come and, from today, I am beginning the process of putting a short story collection together.

Whilst this is all going on, Hugh’s Views And News will still be here. Whilst I won’t be publishing any new posts, I may share a few articles and I still want readers to be able to read my blogging tips posts and anything else useful I have published. Once my short story collection is ready I will be back, but you’ll also notice my absence in reading blog posts so that all my time can be put into my book. I’m afraid that it also means there won’t be any further photography challenges from me until I return. However, when I do return, I’ll be showcasing at least five entries from the current photo challenge when I announce a new challenge.

When will I return? How long is a piece of string? I don’t know but I can guarantee I will be back. In the meantime, I’d like to thank you all again and leave you with a little song that is the theme tune to my favourite TV show, The Golden Girls. This is for all of you out there.

  1. That’s amazing news, Hugh! I wish you so much good luck and quiet nights to write and edit! I will be sure to look out for your return to the internet.

  2. Hugh, I’m glad your aspirations are going somewhere. For some people (like me) blogging is the goal. I think of my blog like a weekly newspaper op-ed column, so my path is to keep doing that and pull in as many readers as I can. For others (like you) blogging is a means to an end. Those seeking to become published authors do not go into blogging with the expectation that they’ll do it forever. And I totally understand the time and dedication required to maintain an effective blog. I spend many hours per week and post a lot less often than you!

I hope you’ll still be a regular over at Twenty First Summer, and I’ll also continue following you on Twitter or wherever you are. Good luck, friend. I’ll be watching you!

    1. Thank you, Chris, and I will still be a visitor. While I put the book together I’m just cutting down on the time I’ll be spending reading and writing blog posts. However, once I’ve done what needs to be done then I will be back to blogging. So, see you again soon.

  3. How exciting for you, Hugh! Best wishes for much success with your book! I look forward to seeing it in print. Three cheers to you! ❤️

  4. This is weird, you live down the road from me, you have made this decision to wind things back on your blog so you can concentrate on your book……and so have I! Next week I am reducing posts on my blog so I can concentrate on my book and podcast. Sacha has been counselling me all day as dropping to 3 posts a week for me has made me come out in hives. Hugh – I feel like we are connected via some spiritual highway!

    1. What? No way, Lucy! What were the odds of that happening? Did you have some kind of hearing bug tapped into my thoughts as I was putting this plan together? 😃

Both the book and podcasts sound very exciting. Never thought of Podcasts before. Will you be launching them on your blog? Dropping to three posts a week will be a doddle compared to me dropping to none (apart from the odd ‘press this’). Glad to hear you are joining me on this great adventure. Don’t know when you are planning to launch the book, but keep me posted. A double launch party could be exciting stuff 😃

  5. Thanky for all the effort you put in your photo challenges. I enjoyed it a lot. I wish you all the best and good luck for your new project. May your dream come true!

  6. All the very best Hugh in following your dreams. Enjoy, have fun and thanks for all of your awesome photo challenges. I’ll miss them! 🙂

  7. Wishing you all the luck, joy and happiness in the world as you work towards achieving your dream.
I’ll miss your happy face – but you will always be one of my earliest blogging friends, and we all want our friends to live their dream.

    1. That’s so kind, thank you, Claudette. But, I will be back once I have lived this dream. Thank you for all your support. We’ve come a long way together since that Blogging Class of April 2014. 😃

  8. Hugh, I’m so proud of you. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavour, and I envy your bravery to semi leave your blog to concentrate all your efforts on what I’m sure will be a great book!
It is a lot to manage a blog, read and comment on over 100 blogs a week, market and write more books. I know this well. And if you want to maintain a lifestyle at all while writing the book, then something’s gotta give. I know I’m exhausted, lol. I relish the thought of taking a real time out on my own blog for part of next winter. I’ve never done that through many vacations, I maintained my blog while I should have just been in full relax and party mode lol.
Do keep in touch and peek around FB so we can keep up with you and stay in touch. 🙂 xo ❤

    1. I intend to, Debby. I’ll be keeping in touch with some of you during my time away from here. In fact, I’m intending sharing at least one post a week by reblog or ‘press this’ so as to keep the blog ticking over. Comments will be turned off, though.
I’m so excited by what lays ahead for me. I won’t be back until I’m happy that everything is in place for the launch of the book. I’ve got time on my side at the moment, but I know how quickly that can go. That is one of the things that made me make the decision to take a break from blogging.
I’m looking forward to joining all you wonderful Authors soon.
Take care. I promise I’ll keep in touch.

      1. Looking forward to welcoming you to the club. 🙂 Use your time wisely, you will soon find out how morning turns into night in a flash, lol. xo ❤

  9. Best of luck following your dreams, Hugh. You will be missed around here but finding your happiness is what’s most important. Stay well. Be happy.😊

  10. So happy to hear you are following your dream. Best wishes as you write up a storm. You will be missed, but we will all be waiting for your return. Hugs, my friend.

  11. Wonderful news that you’re pursuing your dream. Wishing you all the best. We shall all await your return!

  12. All the best writing your book Hugh. Your blog will be missed however you’ll find strength and purpose in refocusing on your new project. with best wishes and good luck.

    1. I remember you doing something similar last year, Tess. If it’s worked for you, and you are doing it again, then I know I’m doing the right thing.
Good luck with your writing. Maybe we can both make a Grand Return Entrance together when we return? 😃
