Would you open this door and walk through?
I’m not sure I ever would. Even with that sign, I found it very uninviting and never found out what was on the other side of it.

I’d go in if I had a good torch with a good bright beam, and if it was daylight (the torch for the interior behind the door, the daylight for my nerves!!
Sounds like the perfect plan, Val. I dare not go in even though it was broad daylight.
well I rather agree with you Hugh – at first I saw the nice wood – but after reading what you wrote…. well – um….
ha!
lol, I think I have a new short story in the making. 😀
Yes – maybe! – and hope you have a nice weekend H!
Sure, I’d go in 🙂 Looks very interesting… 😀
Good for you. I’ll wait out here and see you when you come back out. That is if you can find your way back out 😱
Hehe – I don’t know why, it looks more intriguing than scary to me. I bet I find treasure behind that door 👑 I’ll be sure to share it with you though!
I’m happy with that, Helen. 👍
Rather a nice door, I think, though definitely not terribly inviting. I speculate that the owner does have a sense of humour and/or appreciates irony, oxymorons, and such. Other than that, I thought it was maybe a bar or a naughty store! (?) If I had something important in there to do/see, I would go in. Otherwise, not having any information on it (or windows to look through, I guess), I might or might not go in.
From what I recall there were no windows giving anybody a clue as to what was inside, Leigh. Now I’m wondering if it was the new door to Doctor Who’s TARDIS?
This is the kind of door that screams “musty!” at me. Inevitably, when you go through a door like this, there is a pervading smell of mustiness on the other side – an odour I can’t bear. Nice shot though – don’t mind being on THIS side of the door at all. 🙂
Oh, I dislike that smell as well. I think we are far better this side of the door.
This door looks ace!
Are you kidding me? You’d have to go through it first. See you on the other side. 😃
Great looking door, Hugh, but if it were to lead to a basement or cellar then no way would I go through it! Those places give me the creeps! 🙂
I have a feeling that door leads to nowhere, Judy. I still wouldn’t go through it. Not even if there was beer the other side of it. 🍺
HaHA! 😈
I’d open it…I might not cross the threshold but, I’d open it. Mind you, in my head The Eagle’s would be playin’ Welcome to Hotel California. Emphasis on the lines, ” You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.” 🙂
It’s a great carved and weathered door though. Intriguing door this week!
Thank you very much. I think this door has a lot of history. If only it could talk to us.
Not thinking so Hugh, lol. But great mystery for the photo. 🙂 xo
Both the photo and the comments on this post are inspiring me, Debby.
xx
It’s a trap!
Thank goodness, I never went in then.
Looks like a place that would sell Absinthe 🙂
I still wouldn’t go in there. 🍷
Excellent, are you sure you didn’t take a peep!
No, none at all, Willow. That door scared me. 😈
Really well I can empathize with that I am sensitive to things!
is this Edgar Alan Poe’s house with a pit as soon as you step inside?
I’ve no idea, Helen. I’m not going to be the first one across the threshold either. 😈
If you do , just watch for the Pendulum ( or are you too young to have read that story at school?) 😉
I remember watching the movie (a few years after it came out). 😃
Only with a very big sword and a nice shiny full plate suit of armour on. 😀
Very wise. Let me know when they arrive and you’re ready to go in. 😃
Me? … erm … oh no, Good Sir, after you. 🙂
No, no. I insist. 😃
Well, I doubt we could fit through such a narrow opening side-by-side, so I suggest we retire to the nearest inn and consider our options over a jug of the brewmasters finest. 🙂
Sounds a perfectly good idea to me. Your round?
Indubitably.
Downright scary! You’re probably already thinking of a short story about it 🙂
Some of the comments have certainly got me thinking. Could it be a happy ending? 😃
A happy ending? Maybe, but certainly a harrowing beginning 🙂
Sure – why not?
Because I never saw anybody come back out. 😱
I woud wait and see if anyone came out and if they did would follow someone in….interesting door though:)
Good idea, Carol but what if nobody comes out? 😱
I don’t think I’d step through that door! *shudder* It’s giving me the creeps!
Glad to hear you’re on my side on this one, Amanda. I bet that door even creeks as it opens.
I imagine it does! …spooky! 👻
I’m not too sure if that door looks too inviting but who knows Hugh there might be a cream tea just beyond it !!
Do you think so, Marje? Judging by the door I have a feeling it could be something far more sinister than cream tea. Green Tea! 😱
Who knows what lies behind….???
I’m not going to find out. Not even for a box of Maltesers. 😃
Wow it must be scary! !! There’s not much I wouldn’t do for Maltesers but there are also lines that have to be drawn!!!!
Call me adventurous or just plain crazy but I would have accepted the invitation. That door looks to be all hand-carved. I’d HAVE to see what was on the other side 🙂
Nice find Hugh.
Good luck, Norm. I’m organising a group of you to go through that door as I type this. I can feel a short story coming on…
😀
I don’t know what that is about doors, but I love your door posts a lot!
Perhaps I should try and participate every week, Erika. I’m taking photos of doors all the time. I’m sure I’ll get arrested one day.
Hahaha…. you are too funny, Hugh! What is it that makes you take pictures of doors?
I blame Norm. He got me started and now I’m hooked.
Oh, I see! At least it is a healthy addiction since you are outside for taking the pictures 😃
I most definitely would!!!! I would be too curious not to! speaking of devil where is this door Hugh?? 😁
I’m glad somebody would. Please tell us what’s behind it. That is if you ever find your way back out? 😱
I took the photo in the village of Alfriston, East Sussex.
Ok next time am in England I will try go there 😁😁💪🏻 a woman to do a mans job 😂
Phew! I think I have found a man to go with you through that door. Norm, himself, has said he would go through it. I just hope you both come back. If not, there will be no more Thursday Doors. 😱
And it will be all your fault for showing the door to god knows what !! 😂😂
I don’t think Norm would ever forgive me. Then again, if he’s going through the door then maybe I don’t need to worry about that. 🤔
😂 true!
Great door, yet terribly uninviting, despite the sign.
I agree. I think they need a brand new door if they want anybody to go in.
Cheeky devil, that’s my house!!!!
I thought I heard somebody shouting out “bl**dy WordPress!” as I took the photo. It did sound like you, Richard.
Sorry, I was cooking dinner.
I’d love to know what was on the other side even though it does look quite scary. I might go through if someone else was with me 😉
You’re braver than me, Cathy. I’d have probably pushed you through first.
😀 😀 Well, maybe just a peek at first
That’s true. I wouldn’t either. There’s a peephole ? That one right there makes it very unwelcoming.
Is there? I don’t think I’d even peek through it or the letterbox.
Looks creepy
I agree. Not even I, writer of short creepy fiction, would go through that door.
