The Life & Times of Scott Hughes

“Yes, I’m fine” replied Scott, “Its just the excitement of being in London and, of course, meeting you.”

“Same here,” said Nick, “I’ve been constantly thinking about this day ever since we arranged it. Now it’s finally arrived and here we are.”

“I’m just a bit nervous I suppose,” blushed Scott.

“No need to be,” replied Nick, as he smiled at Scott again. “So, this is your first time in London?”

“Yes. Have you been before?”

“A few times, but never to meet somebody as cute as you.”

Scott blushed.

“I’m being honest,” laughed Nick.

Scott smiled but didn’t say anything.  It made him feel a little uncomfortable as compliments often did.

“Sorry if I’ve embarrassed you. Do you always blush when somebody pays you a compliment?” Scott still couldn’t say anything and felt his face blush even more. Nick started to laugh again and then realised that perhaps he shouldn’t as Scott may think he was making fun of him.

“So, what do you want to do with your time this weekend?” asked Nick.

Snippets of You - Writing Challenge by Sacha Black

Written as part of Sacha Black’s Writespiration #85 Snippets of You.

The weekly writespiration is a platform of inspiration for writers but also an opportunity for writers to share their work. So. This week, I want two things from you:

1 – The title of your current WIP – if you’re working on more than one, just choose the one you like the title of best. Or if you like, make a title up.

2 – A 150-word snippet from your current WIP. If it is part of a series, feel free to post links to amazon for the first book (only) in the series and I will add it for people to have a look.

    1. Thanks so much, Ritu. I’ve been writing Scott’s adventure since 2012!
I think I need to get back to him. Sacha’s writing challenge may be just the thing I need to do that. Maybe I should publish some more of it on my blog first and see what feedback I get?

  1. Firstly, I like the new look of your site, Hugh, but was concerned as WP must have unfollowed me as I had to re-follow.
I am looking forward to reading your book when you finish it, Hugh. It sounds like things were going to start heating up a bit there! 🙂

    1. Oh no! I hope I’m not unwillingly unfollowing blogs as well, Judy. It’s happened to me a few times recently as well.

I’ve been writing this book since 2012! I need to get back to Scott and Nick. Yes, things do heat up from here on, but not before somebody else makes an appearance.

      1. It makes me so mad when WordPress does that as I rarely unfollow anyone, let alone you!!! I have been so behind lately and still catching up so haven’t realised yet whether or not anyone else has gone!
Are you going to post anymore stories about them on your blog ????

      2. I may do, Judy. I’m not sure whether to finish the story or to trash it. My mind and passion have been for writing short stories and that is what I enjoy writing the most. However, I may publish a few more snippets of the story and see where it takes me. 😀

      3. It seems a real shame to trash it after you have been working on it so long. I know that you love writing short stories and we all love reading them as well! Well, it wouldn’t hurt to give us a few more snippets of Scott’s story! 🙂

  2. hey hugh, long time no see! i’m really loving what you’re writing, is it wrong to already be emotionally attached to your characters? scott and nick are some of my favourite male names, and their relationship is so cute in this snippet! how far along are you in this novel? i’d love to read more 😀

    1. Hi Mikiren, how are things? Great to hear from you. I thought you’d dropped out of blogging. So many from our class of April 2014 seem to have disappeared. So good to see you are still here.

No, it’s not wrong to fall in love with Scott and Nick. In fact, I’m very honoured that you feel that way about them already. I started writing this novel in Sept 2012. Then I discovered blogging in February 2014 and I stopped writing the story. The challenge from Sacha Black made me go back to the WIP book and post a snippet of it. I’m glad I did as I’ve missed these guys so much. Now I need to get on with writing their stories.

      1. sadly, life and gcses (and video gaming…) got in the way of blogging, which sucks more than usual because writing more was one of my new years resolutions! it’s great to be back though, i’ve been catching up with old blogging friends and thoroughly immersing myself in the community again – i’ve definitely missed you guys 🙂 good luck with your novel, i wish you all the best! please keep us all updated 😀

  3. Loving the new blog dress hugh – love a bit of yellow for spring.

So this is cool – is it a short story or a novel? Love that its got a bit of romance too looking forward to more snippets. 😀

    1. Thanks, Sacha. I thought I’d start going with the seasons and brighten the place up a little. My old theme was 18 months old and I thought it about time to change it. Glad you like it.

This is from my novel. The one I’ve been writing since 2012! Still a long way to go.

      1. Ooooooh how much have u written – wait a sec I thought u wouldn’t do the challenge with me because u weren’t writing a novel! DECEPTION I TELL YOU! Right that’s it Hugh, I challenge u to a race to finish a draft by the bash…..

      2. About nine chapters so far. I started the book in Sept 2012 and put it away in Feb 2014 when I discovered Blogging. I’ve not gone back to it since this challenge. I much prefer writing short stories. I was going to trash the book, but bringing Scott and Nick out again (so to speak) has me pining to carry on with their story. There’s no way I’d finish it by the Bash. I may do something with it in November when NaNoWriMo starts. I’ve never entered that before.

  4. Well Hugh you are a dark horse! I thought you only wrote shorts, but here you are writing a novel all along! Keep going, and let’s have some more excerpts! 😊

      1. Yeah funny how blogging tends to take over… we are writers first and foremost, then bloggers, but it often ends up the other way around, or that’s what I find. I love blogging but it does take up valuable book writing time.

      2. It does, and we need to control that time and ensure writing always takes precedence. However, we also need to put plans in place to ensure that we do not take our blogging community for granted. After all, without them would we still continue to blog?

      3. No absolutely! That’s why you get sucked into your blog so much, because you meet such lovely and interesting people. Thats one of the things I love so much about blogging. Writing a book is a far more solitary and lonely experience.
