If We Were Having Coffee – #weekendcoffeeshare – January 9th, 2016

Welcome!  It’s great that you could join me for coffee today.  You’re looking fabulous. Have you had your hair done? That outfit really suits you.

I can’t believe that the first week of 2016 is already over.  I don’t know what it is, but I seem to have been snowed under with ideas for blog posts this week. However, I have all of you to thank for that because I’ve been so inspired by what I’ve been reading on your blogs.

Take, for example, a post from Sacha Black this week. She challenged her readers to write something about lipstick.  As soon as I read the prompt word, my latest short story came hurtling towards me. Have you had a chance to read it yet?  No?  I’ve had such a mixed reaction to the story, especially from you ladies. If you’ve not met Amy Lushwick yet, then she’d be delighted to see you so you can hear her story.

Did you know that there’s a competition prize to be won this month here on Hugh’s Views and News?  Beverley A. Young is my guest blogger and her blog is my blog recommendation of the month.  Beverley is offering three lucky readers a chance to win one of three mini numerology readings. All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is to read her guest post and leave her a comment.  You’ll then be entered into the draw at the end of January. Winners will be announced here on Hugh’s Views and News during the first week of February.

I was delighted to announce that I donated £250 to The Dogs Trust charity, this week. Donating was the easy part for me and it was all of you that entered my Christmas Tree Topper charity challenge that did the hard work, which resulted in the challenge being a success.  Thank you to everyone that entered the challenge, donated to The Dogs Trust and who shared the post on social media. When it comes to raising funds for a good cause, the blogging communities on WordPress always come out on top. Thank you so much for what you all did. You can still donate to The Dogs Trust, by clicking here.

Talking of Photo challenges, Hugh’s Photo challenge will be back very soon. All eight challenges I have set so far have been really successful and I am always delighted when I hear that you’ve been having fun participating in them.

Before I get us both another cup of coffee, I must tell you to look out for a new series that is coming from me very soon. Entitled, ‘How To Become A Successful Blogger’. I’ll be publishing lots of blogging tips over the whole of 2016.  I’m launching the series over on Jemsbooks, a blog run by author, writer and blogger, Janice Spina.  Janice kindly invited me to write a guest post for her blog and asked that I write about something I knew a lot about. I don’t admit to knowing everything about what makes a blog successful, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the subject. This seemed the perfect way to launch the series.  Part one will be published soon.

I’ll get us another coffee now and then you can tell me what you’ve been up to this week.

  1. Hey, I’ll join you more often for a cup of coffee… or even two….. very informative! Very charming your entry by the way…. but if you really saw me right now… haha! Oh, I did not realize that I participated at a competition by leaving a commend on Beverley’s guest post. Wow… that’s cool 😃
    Hava nice weekend, Hugh!

  2. Great series of ideas, Hugh. If we’d been having coffee, I’d be telling you about what I’m planning for my blog (next post on Monday), and how I’ve not really enjoyed being back at work this week. So I’ve got to be working on all those other ideas I have!! Good week to you!

  3. I am looking forward to your posts of 2016 and to those photo challenges. 🙂
It’s been a pleasure joining you for coffee (the auto correct decided that I should write cider, well well my fingers might have grown fat over the holidays).
    Have a great Sunday!

  4. Thanks very much for the coffee, Hugh. I needed it to try to psyche myself up to start painting again for the day. Unfortunately, there’s be no pretty pictures today. We’re painting our son’s room while he’s away at the Scout Jamboree. We knew it was a full renovation job before we started but as it always does, it’s been much more involved and time consuming than intended and my husband’s had to work a lot of overtime. So, our deadline is looming like an ominous rain cloud. Not only do we need to get it painting, it also needs to be reassembled and I reckon about half the stuff needs to disappear. That will have to wait for him to do.
Anyway, getting back to dogs, ours could use a bit of help from that dog charity. They’ve each been given New Year’s resolutions:https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2016/01/10/dog-hijacks-weekend-coffee-time/
Moreover, Bilbo has been looking for our son while at camp and is quite unimpressed by our “laissez-faire” parenting techniques: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2016/01/10/dog-hijacks-weekend-coffee-time/
    Thanks for the chat!

    1. Thanks for joining me for coffee, Rowena. That sounds like a huge job you have with painting your son’s bedroom. I agree that these jobs always seem to become much bigger as we get stuck into them. It’s almost as if the job has gone inside Dr.Who’s TARDIS! I’d hate to be the person who had to paint inside that after only looking at the outside.

I’ll check you links out. I was so overwhelmed with the great response I got for my Christmas Charity appeal on behalf of The Dogs Trust. It was only a simple photo challenge, but one that the whole blogging community seemed to embrace. You’re all a great bunch of people in my eyes.

      1. I have been really blown away by the great people I’ve met blogging. Have you been part of 1000 Voices for Compassion? Geoff Le Pard is part of it too. Here’s the link: http://1000voicesspeak.org/
I’ve really met some great people through that.
Last year, I received an award from Sally Cronin and that really made such a difference to me.

      2. Not, I’ve not had the chance to be part of that. I’ve read most of Geoff’s 1000 voices posts. I’ll see if I can join in sometime.
Congratulations on the Award from Sally. I hope many more follow during 2016.

    1. What happened last week seems to be continuing into this one, Sherri. However, I’m not going to complain about it. 🙂

The first part of the blogging tips series has now been published over on Janice’s blog, but I will be reblogging the post this week.

    1. I’ve already published the first post of the series over on a blog named ‘Jemsbooks.’ Janice, the owner of the blog, invited me to write a guest post so I decided to publish the first of the series on her blog. The link to the post is below.

I’m planing the rest of the series to be published here on my blog.
