Adventure – The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Adventure and, as Hugh did not have a clue what to post for this challenge, it was left up to me to bring it to you.

I couldn’t resist showing you this video clip of my first adventure in the snow.  I had so much fun until I jumped into the frozen canal and one of the humans had to pull me out.  That was not caught on camera but I can assure you that they were not too pleased with Wellington boots full of icy cold water.  I’m not quite sure why, but the snow seemed to make me bounce around rather a lot.

  1. Poor Toby. Glad he’s OK (human rescuer, too)! We took our dog to the beach once (quite an adventure altogether), but he didn’t like the water. He enjoyed smells and running much more than water. He was oh-so good at rolling on dead things, like a snake one time, and had this unique high-pitched squeak, which was kind of funny because he was a tall, and “large” (but very lanky), shepherd mix dog. We miss him a lot!

    1. Since going through the Ice in the canal, Toby is now frightened of water. He may paddle but that’s about it! Even when I get the garden hosepipe out to water the garden, he’s off like a shot and is no where to be seen for an hour or so. As you can imagine, bath times for him can be fun!!

We’ve only had Toby for 3 years and I can’t imagine life without him. He to often likes to roll on dead things, such as dead fish on the beach and, as for Fox poo…well I better not go there 🙂

  2. You looked as if you were stuck in the snow during the first few seconds of the video. It does look like a very decent snowfall and you seem to love it, not minding the cold one bit. Maybe that’s because you have a thick coat of fur. Winter’s coming up your end of the world, enjoy 🙂

    1. I think he was just amazed by the snow, Mabel. It was the very first time he had seen it, so was a huge adventure. That big fur coat of his helps keep out the cold so he loves to be out and about a lot, especially in the winter months. Like me, he’s not at all keen on the hot sun.

      1. First time seeing snow, and first time feeling snow falling on you. Who wouldn’t be excited? Definitely looked like it was a big adventure for your dog. I wonder if that adventure can be topped 🙂

    1. Thank you, Connie. To be honest, since I went through the ice on the canal, I now don’t like water very much (unless I’m drinking it). The humans were just very glad to get me out and, once I was out, I had a good shake and went on my way again :).

  3. Bravo! I can see Toby travelling as a stowaway on the Tardis with Dr Who and as the doctor leaves the call box on a winter’s day Toby scurries out of the warmth and safety of the Tardis and both doctor and dog are both perplexed as to what to do next as Toby leaps about happily as a rabbit on a forage. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Now you have said that, Gerry, he could become the new K-9. However, I don’t think the Doctor would get much done as all Toby would want to do is play, go for walks, eat and sleep. I’m not sure what he would make of a dalik either.

      1. And from what I remember, K-9 had a killer laser beam which came out of his head. I wonder if the local pet store have anything like that for Toby? Maybe a collar? After all, if he is going to travel with the Doctor then he is going to encounter all sorts of monsters.

    1. I won’t tell him, don’t worry about that. After all, he does seem to prefer our Autumn and Winter months. I don’t mind the sunshine but not when it gets too hot. I only wish I could take my fur coat off but just imagine what I would look like then. Scary.

  4. Ah, nothing better than the pure joy of a dog romping in the snow! Of course, I realize the video didn’t have a very happy ending for either Toby or you – but seeing that sure would have been priceless 🙂

    1. I know, Stacy, I only wish I had captured it on my phone. Fortunately, for me, it was my Partner that had to go into the canal and get Toby out. Toby was fine, but John ended up with wellington boots full of icy cold water. It was something like -5 degrees that day and he had to walk back to his sisters before we get them off his feet 🙂

  5. What a big adventure for a little dog! Toby, I think you need longer legs for getting around in that soft snow! How happy you looked jumping around at the end.

Hope you recovered okay from your dip in the freezing canal – and your human friends as well.

I suppose you are looking forward to running around in the autumn leaves soon! Woof! 🙂

    1. Yes, indeed. Autumn has already arrived here in Hove and the humans have been busy sweeping up the leaves in our garden. I like to roll around in the piles of leaves they create and get chased by the brush around the garden. It’s all great fun, although the humans often don’t look too pleased with me when I disturb the piles of leaves they have created 🙂
