As summer fades
Autumn colours arrive
Dry, sunny days, now but a memory away
But on she goes, with September here
Gripping my world through her warm green eyes
Do not forget her when the first mists arise
Till she gives out her last breath and becomes no more alive
Thank you, my darling, for your long, drawn-out days
Until next year, we must now say goodbyes

I’ve had a go at some more poetry, Janice. However, I still find it so difficult to write. It’s something I’ve now given up on; focusing on my short stories instead.
Well I think you did a heck of a job with this beautiful poem Hugh. And the autumn photo you posted is gorgeous. Definitely my most favourite time and climate of the year. 🙂 xx

I hear you, but practice makes better, lol. I’ve recently begun hopping on to Colleen’s poetry challenges and find it’s a good exercise to dip my feet into writing haiku and tanka which I much prefer to writing rhyming poetry. 🙂 xx
I had a run of writing haiku, but even that has now dried up. I figured using the time to write short fiction seemed a better idea. At least I gave it try, though. Plus, you never know. I may just get the urge to write poetry again…one day.😀

We are ever-changing and evolving Hugh. That’s the beauty of writing and creativity. A year ago I had no interest in haiku, we have to go with whatever sparks our passion at the moment. 🙂 ❤

It’s really a great poem to describe how many of us feel about summer. We get at least another few weeks of summer here, all the way until Halloween then it abruptly get cold and rainy!
Enjoy the extended summer in your part of the world, Terri. As somebody who does not like the summer very much, I’m not even sure why I wrote this poem.

Good for you! I do tend to stick to a certain style when having a go at poems (or verses really), but I have strayed from the trusted path on one or two occasions so might bite the bullet and go for it!

Love this poem, Hugh. I think you captured the feeling many of us summer-lovers feel when summer ends and the colder seasons are upon us. I hope you enjoyed summer and that it wasn’t too hot for you. It’s spring here in Melbourne but it still is quite chilly. I am looking forward to summer 🙂
Thank you so much, Mabel. It was my very first attempt at a poem other than a haiku. This summer was too hot during July but August has been one of the coolest on record in some parts of the UK. My favourite season of Autumn is already showing signs of her presence and I’m looking forward to her putting on her wonderful colour display for all to see.

Thank you Colleen. We’ve had the coolest August on record in some parts of the UK which has made the Autumn colours already appear. Everything seems to have come early this year and it looks as if Autumn is falling suit.

I know. I was wondering what I was writing after I did that post on the 10 things I hated most about summer but, I did as you said, closed my eyes and let the words flow, and this is what came out. It was hard work so I’m hoping it can only get easier.
